Why is it Lorne & Co don't post in this fine place?
 

Did someone piss him off? Is he aware this forum exists? Or why don't Lorne and OWI staff post a bit around here?

He is aware of this place, but he's kinda trying to make games and films and stuff, so...

We used to have a couple of Oddworld Inhabitants' fan relations folks post here back when that company existed. Now we've got the MD of JAW paying us attention.

Considering the amount of negativity and whatnot that goes on here, I'm not surprised they don't want to come here. Rather than act like fans, most people here would probably flame him and start fights with him. I'm surprised JAW is still here.

When it comes down to it though, creators rarely go to fan forums for their works.

If you're so annoyed by all our 'negativity', why don't you leave?

Because this is pretty much the only Oddworld fansite/forum left, I've been a huge Oddworld fan since it started, and not EVERYONE here is a douche. But you really can't deny what I said, considering the way most people have been behaving towards JAW staff here.

Welcome to the Oddworld Forums, where bashing series creators is a protected hobby, and expressing disagreement gets you attacked. I love working here.

Lorne has no obligation to spend his time on the Forums, and when it comes down to it he recognizes that he owes every bit of his success to the fans.

People have opinions and expectations (regarding appropriate fan behavior), get the fuck over it and stop bitching about people bitching about "negativity".

But to be honest that above statement has a little too much "negativity" :p for my liking, so I'll simply say that some folks are of the opinion that people have been pricks (and there have been a few), while others see nothing wrong with it because this place is (and it should be) a melting pot of ideas where fans should never hide their gut emotions (a valid opinion).

Voicing one's concerns is perfectly acceptable, as is calling someone out for going a little overboard and being kinda shitty to a developer that wants to revive Oddworld is perfectly acceptable.

My opinion is that it would be a big mistake for Lorne to come on here, and we all know why.

Yeah, of course, people can be as much of an ass as they want. I don't believe I have ever said they couldn't. But in the same vein, I have every right to mention it annoys me. Not that I really do it all that often. Out of my (now) 154 posts, I think maybe 3 of them have been spent mentioning the negativity here can get ridiculous.

YOU get the fuck over it. Some people are here because they want to enjoy being a fan of something they really like. If they don't like some of the entitlement bullshit and trolling that goes on here, they have every right to call you out on it.

No, they don't. "Tons" of them do not. A few do, yes, but they are vastly the minority. Most creators keep a firm professional distance between their fanbase, and for good reason. I think you run a serious risk getting too involved with them.

I just feel that it's probably for the best that Lorne doesn't come here.

Most fanbases are ingrates, especially the ones that haven't gotten a product in 5 years time. Secondly, how the hell is it embarrasing you at all? Lorne doesn't patrol these forums, he wont see you and be disappointed in all his fans. Maybe if he came here and gave us some info now and then we wouldn't be such ingrates. Its not as if Oddworld has a big name publisher that refuses to let them speak on things until an embargo lifts. Im a fan of the Oddworld series as well, I go here because I like some of the people though, not because of Oddworld at this point. As Josh said, if you dont like things here, you can start another forum for Oddworld, where you can ban all people who have a negative comment so you wont be embarrassed.

As for devs who at least talk to their fanbases, off the top of my head:

Just off the top of my head, perhaps not a ton, but they all are willing to give straight answers to simple questions, such as if a game is coming out on a certain system. What terrible risk is involved with being connected to your fanbase? Sure there is negative criticism, but any rational human being should be able to ignore that. Most of the time things only benefit from the devs talking, getting feedback, and answering questions from fans.

The reason why Lorne is not posting on this forum is probably because hes too busy; I mean god forbid he has a life to attend to as well making games, he probably has little time for forums and fan sites...its not because he doesn't care; its just he probably can't find the time, I can only begin to imagine how busy his life is. Also; another likely reason he doesn't post on here is so he can keep a wrap on things, with modern technology its very easy for information and stuff to leak...so he probably wants to reduce that risk by not posting...I think its also kinda fun that he keeps us in suspense somewhat; I find it makes the games more exciting for when they are finally released. Plus; there is negativity on these forums, but its the same case with every other forum out there...its just something you have to learn to deal with.

Sure, not a whole lot of info has been given to us, and it's no surprise really... Oddworld was pretty much dead not long ago. You can't really say anything if there's nothing to report. Now there's something happening, and details are emerging again.

For the record, most of the companies you listed are huge, and highly successful, which OWI/JAW obviously isn't at the moment. A company like Bungie is consistently making strides in development (dude, M$ basically begs them to take more of their money), and thus can make promises without many unforseen snags. I assume JAW doesn't know for sure if other systems are viable, otherwise they would make the announcement... which is pretty obvious. You think they merely enjoy playing mind games with desperate fans?

JAW is awesome, I feel sorry for Gilray, coming here to talk to us and then getting a bollocking by a good number of members. I can understand why Lorne doesn't visit this place. I believe this forum was once compared to the Sonic Forums. I don't know about that but it gets close sometimes.

I wish Lorne would post here, but I am glad he sees it as a priority to work on Oddworld games instead of check for feedback on previous ones. At least, I HOPE that's what he's doing...

Well, I say it's time to start the conspiracy theories. I think it's one of the mods, we should make them cite all of their information, if they get information from an article before it releases or fail to find articles constantly then they must be Lorne because they know the information without it being publicly available.

It could also be a staff member, but we all know that those are just his clones.
