The Brutal Ballad of Fangus Klot ???
an intersting game which was supposedly in development using the same game mechanic used to create strangers wrath.
with the return of strangers of wrath iminent do you believe they ( JAW + oddmobb ) will return to this game mechanic (with updated HD visuals ofcourse) to create the cancelled game ??? |
Probably not. Not any time soon, at least.
There's a big difference between rejigging a completed game and finishing off one that had barely started. Also, I suspect that if Lorne had a choice, he'd prefer to go back to stories set on Oddworld. |
hmm, I see your point. I have to admit if I had a choice I'd much rather see a new oddworld quintology title (or even bonus title). Maybe one day though right??? my point being it just seems odd to return to the playstation with strangers wrath if they were continuing the quintology any time soon. logic states they'd go with munch right?
Maybe im thinking about this way too much :fuzconf: |

Originally it was, development was stearing from that though. They could make it in the vision he wanted though.
|
It was originally, but when he handed more creative control over to the artists they took a more human approach, which diminished his interest somewhat. He decided to let them continue down that road but moved the setting from Oddworld.
|
It could all snowball. Slowly get more money from the Oddbox. Create new games. Creates even MORE money. Money used to employ more people. More people gives Oddmob the time to work on more of the projects they want to do/ wanted to do. They end up having the time and capability to make things like Fangus. That's the dream, right? :D
|
That is indeed the dream lol. It just makes sense fangus would one day make a return, especially after lorne stated he wished to return to the project one day, and after all they're currently working, on some level, with the game mechanic at the moment (Same mechanic used for Strangers wrath was set to be used for Fangus) so if they already have background knowledge on how to use the tool it makes sense the companies would work with something they are familiar with.
just a good use of time in my opinion. |
Lorne shouldn't be that democratic lol.
|
Well we all know how Lorne gets lol

High?

Aliens possesing farts ? yes, very high rofl

Are you all INSANE??? Fangus looked absolutely NOTHING like an Oddworld game with a character that looked FAR too human, and had a horribly bland "scifi futuristic war game" look to it that absolutely disgusted me, and I am both relieved and grateful this piece of crap was cancelled before it marred such an amazing series. Let me reiterate: Fangus looked TERRIBLE and was not special like the other games, the ONLY aspect about it that I found interesting was the part where he was going to be losing sanity with a form of rabies. That might've been a good idea if the game had the "LOOK" of Oddworld but it didn't.
Mudokons - good creations. Gabbits - good creations. Steefs - good creations. Fangus = practically human - I expect more from a game called ODDworld. BAD IDEA :fuzmad: |
umad?

I liked the look of Fangus... but I guess that's a matter of tastes. Anyway with the fact that JAW is doing some work to port SW to the PS3, they might become familiar with the Stranger engine. So I don't think it wouldn't be too far fetched. I guess we'll have to wait to see how the SW port will be received by the public.
I hope it does well, I don't want JAW to be working on nothing but "abe games" because the nostalgic "fan" can't open his mind to anything else. |
:
Perhaps you couldn't be bothered to read my post stating mudokon, gabbits, and steefs are great characters......that does not translate into "I ONLY WANT ABE GAMES EVERYTHING ELSE SUCKS" since Abe is not a Gabbit or a Steef. That means I have played and enjoyed ALL FOUR Oddworld games (though Munch was flawed due to being rushed). I think I made it rather clear in my previous post WHY I am not interested in a Fangus game, and it has NOTHING to do with being "nostalgic" or "close-minded" it has to do with not wanting Oddworld to be ruined with a typical scifi war game with characters that look human. If I wanted that I could always pick up one of the dozens of 360 bargain bin crap. What made Oddworld so great is the fact that it was so different from anything else, Fangus was NOT. That is not being close minded, that is wanting something UNIQUE. I am open to any idea that is GOOD and I have full confidence JAW will deliver. ALSO...sorry I destroyed your hard-on for Fangus, but what kind of "Oddworld Fan" would NOT want another Abe game?? ;) Or for that matter, prefer Fangus (which can barely be considered Oddworld anyway) over a continuation of the quintology, such as Squeek?? Perhaps it would not upset me so much if it were released just as The Brutal Ballad of Fangus Klot and NOT Oddworld: The Brutal Ballad of Fangus Klot - then I wouldn't have such high expectations out of it. |
I want a good game. The reason why most people want another Abe game is not because they love Abe - if that were the case, they'd love a Tetris clone with an animated figure of Abe in the corner - it's because the gameplay and story of the Abe games were so wonderful.
So, frankly, I don't care if the next new game Oddmobb produce has Abe, Munch, Squeek, Nod, Forté, Stranger, Fangus, Coolio or Whatsit... I just want a good game. |
Wasn't Forté an unconfirmed find by either Max or Xav?

And considering a small, fairly new dev-team are capable of using an engine as good as the "Stranger engine", it seems pretty sensible to assume they would indeed use it again- Im not saying they will. Just seems fairly probable. But hey, fair enough if you dont like the look of the game. |
The Stranger engine was programmed for the Xbox. If they're porting the game to PS3 and upping the graphical quality, they will have developed a new engine. It might be based on the old one, but the graphics capablity and memory management will be new.

Anyway, come to think of it, yeah I am an oddworld fan, and yeah I rather have another game based on the stranger engine (like Fangus was supposed to be) then an other game like the original 2D Abe games. I guess you can't please everyone as not everyone has the same tastes. |

2d or 3d...either would be great. To be honest I have a feeling JAW will be doing both. I don't have a problem with them re-using the "Stranger Engine." If they are familiar with it, why not? It looked good on the original xbox, it will look even better now. It doesn't matter what game the engine is used for as long as it's a GOOD game, I agree with you the story and gameplay are the most important parts. I also don't mind whichever route they decide to go, (Abe, Munch, Stranger, Squeek, Sligstorm, etc.) since I know any of those would be great. All of the previous games have loose ends as well so I know most people would like to see what happens next.
I might even be interested in Fangus IF they would make him look like an Oddworld character (and by that I mean different, something someone spent a lot of time thinking up) and his environments look like an Oddworld game (and not a Halo clone), since as I stated before the insanity element would be interesting. I hope you all understand I am a big fan of the series, I just want it to continue to be unique, and above all else, ODD. (Which was my main reason for disliking Fangus.) |

I agree with Caidoozap. Fangus would be fun if it didn't look like Halo with Fuckin Goats. But it might not get made. And the site might not be updated for another couple of months. And Abemudokon isn't saying anything about the new supposed project that's coming out. So I guess I will just have to think about it in my head and play other video games and join the circus and argue with other people on this here forum.

How does any of this look like Halo?

Guns 'n stuff

Why do another stand-alone Oddworld game like Stranger's Wrath, when they could continue the quintology?! That they won't, probably...
Anyways, Fangus is way to human to be an Oddworld character and the environments have, also, human-like structures that shouldn't be there... ... because Oddworld should be ODD! |
I thought brutal ballad would be a freaking great game, the art was awesome and looked oddworldish, just look at the weaponry and area schemes.
