Mudokons and Grubs could they hate each other?
Mudokons as we know are a native race to Mudos with a proud and ancient legacy that were enslaved by the industrialist, and to this day there are a few remaining tribes. However we saw a similar race called Grubs in Stranger's Wrath with an equally proud and ancient past being threaten by industrialist. I wonder if for say sometime in Oddworld's past the two peoples met and battled each other for land. Kind of like how native american tribes met and clashed.
I mean are Mudokons more superior than Grubs or is it the other way around? I mean what if later we find out Grubs have a similar power as the Muds do when they chant? Just a thought. |
I should think Mudokons and Grubbs had their spats just as different Mudokon tribes had their spats. On the other hand, if I were a Mud, I wouldn't want to go messing with someone protected by Steef.
|
I've often considered them similar, they do look a mite bit similar, although Grubbs I don't think evolved from some form of bird.
Grubbs take on a lot of the characteristics of the western US, especially with the surfer dialect, whilst slavery lies further to the East of Mudos it seems. I've said before that Mudos represents to an extent a United States archetype. Whether they fought or not is another question. Mudokons could represent repressed 'african-american' slaves, whilst Grubbs repressed native Americans fighting for land. The difference here being Mudokons have always, as far as we know, resided on Mudos and if that's the case, perhaps Grubbs are in fact foreigners from another land far off? I mean there's also the fact that Grubbs are less active and less violent than their Mudokon neighbours. They don't seem like the fighting type. They did very little to hold onto their land. |
Oh but in Stranger's Wrath The Grubs were having a war campaign against Sekto. They to me seem like a species with primitive war capabilities Just as much as the Mudokons were in Munch. But I dunno if that was defensive traits or not.
|
Not even just primitive war capabilities. They had massive siege weapons and regions like the Native Temple and Last Legs show that they were quite advanced in terms of architecture and building technologies.

Wow, in that case then, I just have to simply play the game again to see them for myself.
|
Nothing that couldn't be patched up by marrying their maidens off to the other group.
Which would only make things worse, come to think of it. |
Are there even girl mudokons?
I think a mudokon could over power a grubb in raw strength, were they to get in a fight. I assumed that grubbs were fairly smaller and weaker than mudokons. Also wanted to mention that when I first saw a Grubb, it looked liked an early version of a mudokon character design to me. |
:
Yet like I said, somewhat similar looking, agreed. |
I think they should just team up.

http://oddworld.com/firsttenyears/ga.../MO_lineup.jpg I'd just like to point out that muds and grubbs have about the same size... so even if muds might be stronger, I don't think it would me much difference. |
I like how the 'classic' looking Slog (which I'd swear is identical to that on the back of the AO box) is used for the Sleg and a different one for the Slog.
|
A lot of those characters are far taller than I expected.
Then again, they're not really in proportion.. |
So the Vykers were actually using Slogs and not Slegs?
|
I also think some of those characters look out of proportion. If the grubbs are really that tall, they must have friggin huge heads. And I still can't help but notice that grubbs are kind of shaped like penises.
AND WHY are those glukkons on the right so tiny compared to the Glockstars? That can't be right. |
I thinks Muds and Grubbs have enough problems to worry about right now without trying to pick fights with each other. If it did happen, I'd rather be with the Grubbs- at least they're protected by someone big and strong. What's Abe's special talent? He's slightly bluer lol.
|
Shrykull lol?
|
Looking at the Almighty Rasen, Isn't he bigger then that in the MO Cutscenes
|
The Raisin's biography in the Oddworld Universe says he's 12 feet tall, so the diagram seems to be accurate in that regard.
|
:
And a cool hat. |
It's not that he can't do it/lost it anymore. Maybe the Shrykrull didn't feel a need for returning.
|
I have to admit that I find the lack of Shrykull in MO annoying. While I realize it's probably because they didn't have the time to include it in the game it gives the impression the Shrykull doesn't support Abe anymore.
|
Shrykull works in mysterious ways...
|
It's weird that most outlaws are nearly 4m tall and steef is like nearly 3m tall.
I would rather be with mudokons in some sort of conflict because somehow the have full auto spoocebows and hit and run tactics, although both sides are relatively incompetent. |
I think it's fairly safe to say that while the Munch's Oddysee scale chart might be accurate, the Stranger's Wrath scale chart doesn't really make any sense. The Stranger's Wrath one needs everything to be scaled down a few notches, because there is no way a Gloktigi is the same height as the almighty raisin, or a Sleg Wolvark is the same height as a Big Bro Slig.
Being on the same planet, it wouldn't make any sense that grubbs are the same height as Mudokuns at six feet. They'd all look like their own variant of Hagrid. |
I think it's highly unlikely that the two species are even aware of each other, since Mudos is such a big continent and Mudokons tend to laziness and therefore aren't going to travel much. The only thing that makes me doubt this is the concept art for the Abe movie, where Abe appears to be hiding behind a bush with Stranger...

What's Grubs' special talent? Fishing and being yellow? They don't have any! So they have to be protected by someone bigger! Am I wrong? |
Theoreticaly every Mudokon can chant, as Chant supressors aren't for nothing. Abe is "very talented" in this, as he is that choosen one. If I was glukkon I wouldn't think "Ahh, there's a tale that there will be a choosen Mudokon that will posses half of our factory(-ies), and destroy it/them, so I have to stop him." Even If I would I would put supressor on every "screen", and on Monsaic lines there are chanting Muds, so everyone of them can do that, but only Abe has so strong powers.
|
Chant supressors could be seen as a Glukkon method of wiping out the Muds' spirituality and religion in order to keep them oppressed. That would be similar to the way that slave owners in the Americas forced their slaves to stop conducting the practices of their African religions in the hope that they'd soon lose their connection to it and turn to Christianity.
