Alternative AO Logo

I've probably asked it before, but I never have actually got a real answer. Many many years ago I've had some version of AO for the PC (Before someone asks - a real PC version, no a the PS version on an emulator. The controls for gamespeak are PC style.) which had this logo instead of usual one:

(Additionally for some reason it had black bombs like in the PS version, but that's a different story; but I really wouldn't mind if someone cared to explain that too! :))

Today I've seen the AO PS demo for the first time (Which made me really want to get my hands on any Oddworld beta), and it used this logo too.

Could anyone explain the story behind having two logos? Why do two logos exist in the first place? How many English-speaking PC versions of AO exist? What are the differences?

I'm really really curious about this, and never actually found any answers.

P.S. If anyone has the (PC) AO version with the alternative logo and black bombs, I'd really, REALLY love to finally get my hands back on it. As for piracy stuff - I already have the game, and I'm going to buy the games again once the OddBox is out anyway, so I don't think it's a problem.

Thanks for anyone helping! :)

sorry to answer your question with a question, but why does the pc vesion of AO and AE have grey bombs instead in black?

LIJI 07-26-2010 01:16 PM

I have no clue actually. I wonder why they made it this way.

I'm not sure there's a deep meaning behind this logo. My bet would be that the one you posted was actually a previous version that somehow got "trapped" in the game but wasn't much used afterwards.

I've notist, quite a while ago that this also applys to Abe's Exoddus too.

That's just on the cover of the box though. Liji (I presume) is talking about in-game.

Yes, I too noticed in the Demo the New logo. I Freaked out and thought it was pretty awesome. I too would also like to get my hands on this old version of the game.

This is probably unrelated to the logo but LIJI, if you remember well enough, I know that on every version of AO on the PC Abe faces to the left - I think it might be reversed though on some versions like it is on the PS1:

Ignore the graphical glitching on the PS1 version of my AO (the horrible yellow), but if your PC version had an Abe that faced the other way like this I'd be very interested too, even if it's a bit minor, it could open you up to a whole bunch of glitches and other things.

I would also very much like to dissect the .lvl file (r1.lvl) if you or anyone else still has this version of the game, for .lvl building and editing purposes. You might even be able to change the mines on other PC versions of the game to the black ones, or vice versa.

Very interesting though.

I've notist that quite a bit, didn't they correct that in Abe's Exoddus because I swear in both PC and PS1 Abe was facing to the left.

That's very interesting! Obviously I can't remember something as Abe's direction from 10 years ago, but it might be so. And yes, messing with the lvls is one of the reasons I'd love to get my hands on this version. :)

You actualy can't replace the PC version files with the PSX ones, as they are in a different format.

Oh yer... slaps head, r+ for you.
