Abe's Exoddus Without QuikSave!

I'm trying it atm. Half way through the Necrum Mines. I also only save at checkpoints.

Has anyone else tried this?

Wil 07-08-2010 10:40 AM

What would be really remarkable is if you went without QuikSaving and dying. :)

Now that's just silly. Stop being silly, Max. If you just aimed for not dying, the QuikSaving becomes negligible anyways.

Wil 07-08-2010 11:18 AM

True, although QuikSaving is something of a security blanket. Take that away and the nerves grow!

Indeed. Just got killed by a Scrab at the end of a vault level.....GAHHH!

I really have to try this some time. I compulsively do it every few seconds on some playthroughs.

Lord Stanley 07-08-2010 12:50 PM

I've tried it before, but since there IS a QuikSave option, I always end up going for that.

Jordan 07-08-2010 12:57 PM

Yeah, that's what I'm like. It's handed to you so you're obliged to use it. Kind of annoying, really.

marlz 07-09-2010 09:20 PM

Interesting idea though, considering most people complain about there being no QuikSaves in Abe's Oddysee.

Xavier 07-09-2010 11:32 PM

The lack of QuikSaves in AO drove me mad after getting used to it in AE.

ODDWORLDisTHEbest! 07-10-2010 02:42 AM

yeah, but there is a video on youtube, an ao walkthrough, and the guy who's using it quicksaves, maybe its just a later version or something.

Wil 07-10-2010 02:52 AM

Link?

ODDWORLDisTHEbest! 07-10-2010 03:02 AM

ok, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Om1Oa...eature=related he's really annoying though considering he doesnt know how to play the game lol.

Chubfish 07-10-2010 03:04 AM

In my Abe's Exoddus walkthrough on YouTube I don't think I ever die or use QuikSaves, however I haven't recorded Part 12 yet (Mudomo Vaults to FeeCo). It's something to do with memorising every screen on the game and what it's linked to...

Jordan 07-10-2010 03:04 AM

That's not Quiksaving, he's just editing parts out so the video isn't hella long.

ODDWORLDisTHEbest! 07-10-2010 03:12 AM

no he is, i saw it in a comment, besides, you can tell he is because there is commentary and you can tell it was recorded while he was playing. and if you view the previous video, he destroys a bomb and survives, but still reloads a quicksave, he wouldnt of done that if he was editing.

Wil 07-10-2010 03:26 AM

He's using save states. The exact state of the game is stored in memory by some program or emulator, and injected into the game whenever he wants. It's exactly how QuikSave works.

Also, it's not a walkthrough, it's a Let's Play.

Phylum 07-10-2010 03:33 AM

He's using what I'd assume are save states, as it's the PS1 version.

That video would have been very boring without commentary.

EDIT: Max beat me to it.

sor-ry.

anyway, how do you get save states? is it a program?

Would have been?

Just saying, it's not something to help guide other gamers through the game, it's a video of some guy playing the game.

If it's the PS1 version, then he's certainly using an emulator to play the game on his PC. Most if not all emulators have save states as part of their functioning.

Holy Sock 07-10-2010 06:51 AM

Made it to the Fee Co. Depot!

The Weirdos want me to shut down SoulStorm Brewery, but I've gotta save the Mudokons there first!

Holy Sock 07-11-2010 07:24 AM

Finished the Slig Barracks. Dripik's stage was a little tricky without the aid of QuikSave...onto the Bonewerkz!

Wil 07-11-2010 07:44 AM

Dripik's stage must be a cakewalk compared to Phleg's.

What the heck? Did you even read the videos names?

Or watch the videos. Since there are no commentaries.

I'm not linking it here because I've made a thread already.

I do fear doing it......shouldn't be too bad though. Just abuse the no. 5 key...

EDIT: just finished the Bonewerkz...

ODDWORLDisTHEbest! 07-11-2010 11:00 AM

me too, on the psp, i hate phlegs stage, those slogs are annoying, and what are you talking about chubfish?

OldLadyMay 07-12-2010 03:47 PM

yea that is true mad with out quiksaves i know I've tryed it lol:fuzwink:

Holy Sock 07-12-2010 04:18 PM

I'm in SoulStorm Brewery atm. This isn't too hard at all.

Jango 07-24-2010 01:59 AM

Oddysee would be far too easy if you could quicksave in it.

ODDWORLDisTHEbest! 07-24-2010 02:34 AM

not the first time you play it, it seems as long as exoddus the first time you play it, and very hard, i think the hardest part in oddysee is stockyard return (the whole level).
