Oddworld: The online miniature game
Hello one and all!
Before I begin I want to announce that this may seem like a poor follow up of Michaels oddworld models to you, I assure you it is not, I was working on this idea for about a week before Michael released his work. Ok, if your all sitting comfortably, I'll begin. ODDWORLD: THE ONLINE MINIATURE GAME Introduction For a while now I have been perplexed as to why no miniature fan game has been attempted, I came to the conclusion that it would be a time consuming effort with results that don't justify the process of making the models. Therefore I thought that an online version would be a more appropriate venture. Over the last week I have been brainstorming and sprite creating to provide the back bone of the game. That way, even if I fail to finish the game (and many of you know how short my attention span is) there will still be a decent number of models you can have, I even put them in the cutest little packaging! What is the game outline Ok, I would like very much to have a game with two main campaigns but overall, I would like people to be able to play each other online, to gain experience, war gear, new units and upgraded heroes. Of course this is a very adventurous and possibly over my head in game making abilities since I have never completed a game. I think the main online games would be: All out war: Where one side faces another with a large number of miniatures on a big map. Uprising: Where one industrialist army faces an uprising of mudokon workers, in a factory with a small number of units each (the only issue with this game is balancing the armies out.) Looters: Where one side controls a squad of poorly equipped native sligs or mudokons, they loot equipment from industrialist outposts etc, customisation is a big factor in this game an you will be allowed to reconstruct existing guns with other parts. The Problems The Problems are of course my apparent lack (something I will have to tune up) the other problem is finding the time to make the game! I think I'll be all right though, if you do want to help, do say so! I think I'll need all the help I can get. Below - Slig in packet with colours you may want to add. ( I'm hoping to add an army maker function where you can edit unit colours etc) |
Sounds great :D
I imagine it would have a top-down view? The 'all out war' mode kinda reminds me of the Hand of Odd game which unfortunately never came to fruition. I like the variety of game styles too, oh and the unit customisation :) Do you have images of any other characters you've made? |
If you want a ready-made game that you can just make new graphics for, check out Battle for Wesnoth.
All you'd need to do is make sprites for the characters and tiles, then stat them. Should be easier than making a completely new game, and it's pretty much what you're looking for (as far as I can see). Or, if not, just play Wesnoth. It's a damn good game. |
Thanks Enchilado, I'll check it out but it'll feel like I cheated a bit and it might not have everything I want, I can't be having that. I'm releasing more sprites as and when but if all goes to plan, for now I have a basic structure of the units army list you'll need for a typical all out war game.
1 HQ Building 1 Hero Unit 1-3 Elites (optional) 5-20 Infantry 1-10 heavy infantry (optional) 1-4 tanks / machines (optional) (OK UPDATE) I think I'll be testing my units out in the battle for wesnoth thing, it has some real good ready made stuff and you can create your own factions as well! |

Do you know where the download is? I tried to download something but I think it was the wrong thing.

Hm. You know, something similar to this was attempted. I can't recall waht exactly happened to it though. Or perhaps it isn't quite like this, but it seems similar to me.
Edit: Here it is: Be prepared for a lot of reading |
Yes, perhaps similar but mine will be finished and hopefully simplified
|
EDIT: Ok I'm currently working on a proper game with likwidgames so right now the miniature game is on hold but i'll still post models a lot!
