Fisty Cuffs

How hard do you think it would we to take on Abe? You know, just you and him going at in. No weapons, no powers, no rules, only yourself in a loincloth like Abe. Now that your thinking about you and Abe standing in a ring about to engage with a huge crowd cheering Abe on cause nobody knows how you are except your family and friends who have front row seats and cheers unheard over the masses, just remember...I don't think Abe has genitals :fuzconf:

enchilado 03-23-2010 09:30 PM

Mudokons are immensely strong. Remember, though, although he has no genitals it's still a very sensitive area.

Taco 03-23-2010 10:46 PM

arent muds 8 feet tall or something? and the way abe and those muds climbed into necrum mines, I wouldnt wanna fuck with him. Just think of all the times he's fallen and run into hard walls. he wouldnt even feel a punch or kick

Xavier 03-24-2010 12:25 AM

You would be crunched...

Wil 03-24-2010 12:39 AM

Abe's pretty weedy, but those claw-like fingernails don't look harmless. Still, one good hard yank on his ponytail and I reckon I can pull his brains out.

Taco 03-24-2010 01:23 AM

I say go for the stitches. that would hurt like hell

slig# 5719 03-24-2010 01:41 AM

If I remember correctly Muds are supposed to be decendants of birds, that tells me weak bones. On the flip side he will be very light and very light means very fast. He can outrun Slogs, Scrabs and Paramites so I wouldn't say he'd have much trouble getting in a few hits before you make the first swing

Taco 03-24-2010 01:51 AM

They can't have weak bones considering how much punishment a mudokon body can take. Unless the sligs and gravity on mudos are incredibly weak

Phylum 03-24-2010 01:54 AM

You can't outrun scrabs, actually. They get you eventually...

EDIT: Taco posted.

It's been said before that the gravity on Oddworld must be immense: it's 10 times the size of Earth!

enchilado 03-24-2010 02:10 AM

Actually, Scrabs catch up with you really quickly. You only have about one screen, if that.

slig# 5719 03-24-2010 02:19 AM

My mistake(s) although if I remember right in AO (though I never actually saw any beating in AE) Muds die after several hits from a Slig. Come to think of it I've never tried hitting abe while possesing a Slig.

@Ench: I think the longest you need to run from a Scrab is a secret on AO going back and fourth one and a half to two screens (distance wise not through two screens). Though I may be wrong, it might be longer in the vaults on AE.

If the gravity thing's true you wouldn't have a chance, he'd be way to strong.

enchilado 03-24-2010 03:12 AM

Yes, but if that's the area I think you mean, you continuously jump over gaps. The Scrab has to pause and hop over these, slowing it down.

You mean the area in the Scrab Stockyards?

I don't think it does slow down, whenever I played that area he'd jump the gaps pretty swiftly and keep going and he'd also jump the gaps much quicker than what Abe could have.

EDIT: It may have seemed that I repeated myself a bit...
:

he'd jump the gaps pretty swiftly
= near to no pause....
:

he'd also jump the gaps much quicker than what Abe could have
= trajectory of the scrab is much quicker of that of Abes.

i'd find the fact that mudokons are incredibly bony a problem. and look at the size of his hands, they're fucking huge. he'd probably crush your hand just by shaking it at the beginning, him being the cheating bastard he is.

STM 03-24-2010 11:53 AM

since yer average mud is around 6 to 7 feet tall ( I checked) I think they would look pretty scary! ( I always imagined them our height =( ) I could take em coz i'm strong

Wings of Fire 03-24-2010 12:17 PM

I think I would just oppress him using my brains and willpower.

Abe is 5′8″.

Well, their bones are hollow. Though, anything with a gizzard scares the hell out of me.

Sekto Springs 03-24-2010 02:48 PM

Mudokons would be a real challenge in close combat. Huge hands, bony, sharp nails.
But one must not forget how clumsy Mudokons are. If you're clever about the way you move, you could run circles around one and make him trip on the shoelaces he doesn't even have.

Also they have huge eyes. Just start poking haphazardly and forcefully around the face area and you're 99.9% guaranteed to get them straight in the eye, Stooge-style.

run around in circles
trip him up
poke eyes
got it.

now i just need to get there.

Lacy Hemsmire 03-24-2010 07:26 PM

Oooh! That'd be fun. I'm small, even for a girl, so I might stand a chance with dodging and tripping him up. Very little physical strength, so I'd definitely have to chea- erm, strategize! D8

If I remember correctly, nothing happens - The Slig just trigger whips next to Abe but it doesn't seem to affect him. You can shoot yourself, which is funny. =P But you can't beat yourself for some reason.

Rayrockslots 03-24-2010 08:36 PM

I dunno, Abe's kinda a wimp would he even fight back? He doesn't even know how to fight he just slaps, although if he puts up with 10x our gravity then that's gonna hurt alot. Abe is 5′8″? Can't be that heavy then, i'd use his chump like nature to get in a great swing right in the chops right at the start not giving him the chance to get angry, knocking him over and then begin to kick him while he's down!

THEN WHAT WAS THE POINT IN ALL THIS?

and i'd just gotten notes from Sekto, too.

The gravity of Oddworld is not 10x Earth. We've never had any real clarification about Oddworld's actual size, but to put it into perspective, try calculating your weight on the surface of Jupiter (or the force your jetpack would need to hold you up). Jupiter is 318 times as massive as Earth, so if it was the same size as Earth you'd weigh 318 times as much. But Jupiter is much larger than Earth.

The force of gravity pulls you towards the centre of gravity of any body. A planet is massive enough for gravity to force it to collapse into a sphere around the centre of gravity (excepting the effects of centripetal force and the minor deviations of local topography), so the centre of gravity is also the centre of the planet (a location in which, were it hollowed out, and the weight of the planet held back around it, you would be weightless). So the distance of the surface from gravity's centre is the planet's radius.

Jupiter's radius is 11 times that of Earth, and as you know from Newton's inverse-square law, this means you are 11² times lighter (121) on the surface of actual Jupiter than on the surface of an Earth-sized Jupiter. 318/121 = 2.53. So on the surface of Jupiter, you are 2.53 times as heavy as you are on Earth. I've experienced worse on fairground rides, though admittedly only for short periods.

Crashpunk 03-25-2010 08:08 AM

I wouldn't dare pick a fight with Abe or any other Mudokon. If you pissed him of, he wouldn't punch or kick you, he'll slap you as hard as he could (which looks pretty painfull) then he'll proberly Possess you after the Fight. you know good old payback

Exploding head Payback

Another question? Picking a Fight with a Slig?
isn't good idea

For those who are a trifle confused, basically it's the mass and density rather than volume (size) that contributes to gravity.

I was a confused trifle, because Jupiter is a gas giant and Oddworld is a terrestrial planet, it seems fair to assume Oddworld has a similar density to the terrestrial planets in our solar system.

Also volume (size) does contribute to gravity's effect as BM said, the bigger the planet, the further you are (on the surface) from the center of gravity

MeechMunchie 03-25-2010 10:09 AM

Well yeah, but it contributes negatively, as you said. I'm just trying to simplify physics, which is notoriously hard to simplify without a daunting array of formulae.

enchilado 03-25-2010 12:47 PM

Fuck that gravity Abe has a huge eye I would just stick my finger in it
