What do Mudokons eat?

It is quite interesting how we never see Abe or any other Mudokon ever eat anything. Do they not need food? Are are they starving because they are so thin?

I hope to see other people's opinions on this.

i think this could be asked here, bud;

I think that this is a question with no definitive answer and, as such, may provoke some discussion. Thus it requires its own thread rather than clogging up Q&A.

God save me from self-appointed mods

EDITED whoops a daisy, misinterpretation.

skillya_glowi 02-21-2010 02:48 PM

This is a difficult question to answer because the design of the Mudokons' mouth was changed in Munch's Oddysee. The first design didn't have any teeth, and so it would be logical to assume they ate soft foods and drank juices (Unless, of course, they liked to swallow things whole like a pelican). After teeth were added, though, I honestly don't know. Even so, I can add that they probably stuck with things like fruit; it could just be me, but I find it hard to imagine a Mudokon consuming any kind of meat. But that's just a guess.

Scrubs will eat paramite pies and scrab cakes I think, Abe rubs his stomach and makes "mmMMMMmmmm" noises during the AO intro

Theres also a mudokon fishing in this vid

skillya_glowi 02-21-2010 02:58 PM

That's a good point, it makes sense since teeth were added to their mouths by that time.

Wil 02-21-2010 03:18 PM

Mudokons have a gizzard that helps break down their food. Whether this featured in their pre-teeth design I don't know.

Bullet Magnet 02-21-2010 06:15 PM

Gravy.

MeechMunchie 02-21-2010 11:46 PM

Insects, fruit and honey. I think I read that in the art book somewhere. The mouth studies, maybe.

Wil 02-22-2010 12:31 AM

Mudokons are keen hunters. And they probably make use of that meat.

Taco 02-22-2010 12:39 AM

Spooce shrubs? maybe they make salads for their scrab steaks. who knows really. this may be explored in the OW film if there's ever going to be one

Wil 02-22-2010 12:50 AM

The psychotropic component of SpooceShrubs is the juice, so if they don't just drink that, they eat it in non-dessicated form.

Jango 02-22-2010 06:55 AM

Abe can't eat meat, he collected it through Abe's Oddysee and never ate any.

And yes, he does eat scrab cakes and paramite pies, good spot. :)

Crashpunk 02-22-2010 07:21 AM

Abe must of had a couple of Scrab cakes and Paramite Pies before his Oddysee.

He must of been regreting it ever since :P

Maybe he just didn't feel like eating meat that had fallen on the floor:p

Jango 02-22-2010 08:32 AM

He could have stopped it from falling on the floor, the meat sacks aren't that hard to reach. ;)

MA 02-22-2010 08:45 AM

the meat sacks have also been hanging there for god knows how long, so i assume the meat wouldn't be fit for mudokon consumption, or would be unpleasant at the very least. also; its raw meat. i don't know if they'd eat their meat raw, but i always thought mudokons would cook it first if they did eat any.

Jordan 02-22-2010 08:48 AM

Though, if you think about it those meat sacks have probably been there for ages, and I doubt Abe would want to eat rotten chunks of meat.

EDIT: Damnit MA, you're a speedy one.

MA 02-22-2010 08:49 AM

speedy shit. :tard:

MeechMunchie 02-22-2010 08:59 AM

The Paramites don't seem to mind. I think they prefer it putrid because they can smell it better.

Hazz-JB 02-22-2010 09:24 AM

The opening scene of AO implied that Abe and other industrial mudokons eat meat, but it might be different for the natives who arent ignorant and understand the ecosystem better. I'm guessing they would atleast be careful not to hunt more than they needed anyway.

Jango 02-22-2010 10:34 AM

True, true.

But what sort of fruits/veg would there be to eat on Oddworld. Surely their soil is so Odd that our vegetables cannot grow there. ;)

Wil 02-22-2010 11:28 AM

Popberries.

Sekto Springs 02-22-2010 11:40 AM

Fish.
They're evolved from birds, and many birds love to eat fish.
Abe's original story was that he was a fisherman living in solitude. His last name is "Lure" ffs.
Let's not forget the FMVs portraying Mudokons fishing in the Mongo.

I'd say fish and fruit, the latter being based on their habitat and Farzad's mouth design where he notes they are "healthy eaters compared to other inhabitants", and that their toothless maw accommodates softer, juicy foods. Since Abe and his mudokon buddies were given little teeth in Munch's Oddysee, it could be deduced that younger mudokons have an exclusively fruit diet whereas older mudokons are able to chew hardier foods like meat.

I was thinking similar stuff, like if a mudokon lives in the wild it'll develop teeth and if it lives in captivity it won't, or soulstorm brew might impede tooth growth

MeechMunchie 02-22-2010 12:03 PM

They ought to brush and floss every day. All those salty fizzy drinks can't be good.

Insects, fruit and honey. I think I read that in the art book somewhere. The mouth studies, maybe.

According to the mouth studies, Mudokons gum soft foods and they swallow juices. However, despite the fact that Mudokons have teeth in MO, the art states that Mudokons don't have teeth. And the artwork clearly states that the mouths were concept art for MO.

Plus, the art states that Mudokons have tongues that can snap out and grab insects, however the description that shows that that design is "optional", so it might not be accurate. Anyway, according to the mouth studies if they're correct, Mudokons don't seem to eat meat.

Wil 02-22-2010 02:06 PM

Mudokons definitely eat meat and they definitely have teeth. Not all concept art is used in the final design, and even when it is it can be retconned.

Lord Stanley 02-22-2010 03:54 PM

Maybe they eat slogs...
