Abe's Exoddus Possible Two Player
There is a possibilty that abe's exoddus could become 2 player. Actualy. I'm working on it. Right now, the functions working are, P2 can be any muducken they want to be, P2 can switch to any emotion they want, even commit suicide.( Suicide seems to be classified as an emotion in game..:S) Ability to walk as moduckens, in a weird fashion, example: Press t to turn around, and w to move in the direction the mud is facing. Weird stuff, but, hopefully, there will be some 2 player action. I could even make it up to 4 player. But thats long away...
For anyone who wants to mess around with mudokon emotions and states. i have uploaded a program to do so. |
I've had a go, and I can set the emotions well, but which brainstate does a mud need to be in for you to 'control' it?
|
You can't control them using that program, I am making the program to control them. That is just so you can see whats needed to make muiltiplayer. BTW, a new version of my Oddworld Twister ;)
|
Oh, right. *feels stupid*
Anyway, using brainstate 4, I managed to get a mudokon into an eternal 'duck from bullets' :p |
The new version contains 2 basic functions for slig control. Shoot and Reload. Others are not yet known.
|
Very interesting! I'll test it later. :)
|
The two player mode given as is in both AO and AE seemed really stupid.
Why would you need to have two separate controllers in two separate ports when you aren't playing cooperatively anyway? Giving Abe his own Mudokon buddy seems like a much better idea. Trouble is, if you two went off on separate paths, would it become split screen or are you doomed to be joined at the hip lest one of you proves that you can exist in two places at once and the fabric of the universe is pulled in twain? |
I think a co-operative 2D Abe game could throw out some real fantastic puzzles. I'd like to see that.
|
I think one of you programmer guys should throw together a cooperative fan game starring Abe and Alf in a series of two-player specific mini puzzles.

For real 2 (or more) player with the current game engine it really needs to be networked for online play since split screen would be silly. But then you'd need some smartly designed levels or some way of knowing where the other player is. And if it was to be single player too then you'd need a smart AI buddy to play with like in RE5
|
your all thinking co-op? I want to hunt y'all down as a flying slig, I can imagine the shadows and invisability coming into play
|
Re: Knowing where the other player is: have a button/key that when held down/pressed switches to your buddy. Like switching between Abe and Munch, or looking behind you in a racing game.

I have done a fair amount of design on a 2D Abe game with teams, different units, ammo, game types and so on, but I can't program, so unless someone is interested, OddWars may be doomed to die.
It will have Mudokons and Sligs (Tomahawks, Flyings Sligs, MudArchers, Big Bros, Poppers, Bouncers, Scrubs, Shamans, Riders and so on); Team Flags, Free-for-All Flags, Free-for-All, and Team game modes; ammo dispensers, moolah, XP and saved units; and would hopefully be damn fun to play. If you make this two-player Abe game, it'd be the first step toward OddWars, which is my dream. |
Some time ago, in a galaxy somewhere...
