ANIME JA NAI

LES TALK ABOUT WITCH YOU LIEK

I LIKE NARUTO AND SO DOES OANST =^_^=

Note: I don't think that this thread at all treads on the feet of the 'I've just seen' thread as I'm talking general discussion here.

As everyone and his dog knows I'm a big fan of Gundam because pseudo-politics with huge robots appeals to me, on the subject of mecha I've also watched Neon Genesis Evangelion, Fooly Cooly and half of the first TTGL movie. I've probably seen more on top of that but the mind begins to fuzz after a while.

I'm also a big fan of the Studio Ghibli films after I was forced by my (ex)girlfriend to watch Nausicaa close to two years ago now, Princess Mononoke is just about my favourite film ever because it has a fantastic vocal cast, beautiful scenery, the BEST DUB SCRIPT EVER (Written by Neil fucking Gaiman!!!) and a fantastically developed main villian. Also Joe Hishashi is love, and shares my name. Woo! I've also seen Spirited Away, Whisper of the Heart, The Cat Returns, Laputa Castle in the Sky, Howl's Moving Castle, Pom Poko, My Neighbor Totoro and I bought Grave of the Fireflies to treat myself and watch tomorrow after I hand my report in. I also intend to get the Tales of Earthsea movie after I finish the last two books of the Tetralogy, if only for the apparently stunning visuals.

I'm also a hooj fan of Serial Experiments Lain and Excel Saga, as well as the K-ON!, Shounen Maid, Jojo's Bizarre Adventures, Prunus Girl and No Bra manga. All of which I whole heartedly recommend. I'll definitely be watching the K-ON! anime after I finish Turn A Gundam, and also plan to watch Haruhi and Gundam Unicorn when it airs later this year. Also I want to get into more slice of life anime and stuff. Something with traps.

NO TROLLING PLZZZZZ =3

OANST 02-16-2010 10:19 AM

I like good movies. If they happen to be anime, so be it.

Wings of Fire 02-16-2010 10:21 AM

See everyone, even OANST is a cool person when he puts his mind to it.

Do you really want to be a worse person than OANST? Do you?

god im bored

OANST 02-16-2010 10:23 AM

I have nice legs?

Wings of Fire 02-16-2010 10:26 AM

Back on topic mister! Cammy is not an anime or manga, unfortunate but true.

OddjobAbe 02-16-2010 11:00 AM

I can't get into any kind of anime. I don't like the style of animation. It feels to me bleak and uninteresting (I know that a lot of people here will disagree). If I don't care for a style of animation, no matter how good the film itself, I just cannot watch it.

Wings of Fire 02-16-2010 11:02 AM

Have you ever tried a Ghibli film? They're far far removed from the moe style that's in vogue at the moment.

OddjobAbe 02-16-2010 11:04 AM

Never heard of one. I don't like to be close minded, so should the opportunity to see one arise, I may consider it.

Wings of Fire 02-16-2010 11:09 AM

I heavily recommend Princess Mononoke and Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind. Minnie Driver and Gillian Anderson voice act two of the leading ladies/bitches in the former and Patrick Stewart voice acts the mentor type figure in the latter.

OddjobAbe 02-16-2010 11:12 AM

Gillian Anderson on one? Patrick Stewart on another? I'm sold.

SOME EXAMPLES OF THE AESTHETIC USED IN DIFFERENT GHIBLI FILMS.

Ridg3 02-16-2010 12:28 PM

I've seen too many people watch this version of the animé which I despise with an absolute passion, I suppose the only anime I like 'cause I watched it as a kid, is DBZ.

Zukan 02-16-2010 12:29 PM

A better example would be:

I object to Naruto being representative of all anime nowdays, it's just not the case.

Isn't that right guys?

Yeah, thought so.

Woah woah woah, calm down. I quite like that style! The only reason I brought it up is that people have a tendancy to think that the animation style is far more homogenized than it actually is.

Hobo 02-16-2010 12:36 PM

If you're going to have this thread can you keep the anime shit out of other threads? Please

scrab queen 02-16-2010 12:37 PM

Anything Hayo Miyazaki is cool with me.

I used to watch Inuyasha, but I look at it now and I go '...I must have been really bored'.

I thoroughly enjoyed Gankutsuou, though. I was quite fond of the use of filters.

Mac Sirloin 02-16-2010 12:46 PM

Evangelion is the only Anime I've watched all of. Shit's depressing, yo.

Wings of Fire 02-16-2010 12:47 PM

Watch Rebuild. It has 60% less angst and 200% more awesome.

Bullet Magnet 02-16-2010 02:04 PM

The only series I've watched all the way through is Ranma. WHICH ENDED IN A SHITTY PLACE I MIGHT ADD.

Wings of Fire 02-16-2010 02:10 PM

Probably because it was made by one of the biggest hacks currently working inside Japan. The manga is much more extensive, but I really don't like the style of Rumiko Takahashi.

RayOni 02-16-2010 02:16 PM

Good God.

used:) 02-16-2010 02:37 PM

I used to say I liked anime in general, but now, like most things, I only nit-pick that which I truly like for reasons other than just the brand name.

The cream of the crop:
Cowboy Bebop
FLCL
Eureka 7
Samurai Champloo
Samurai 7
Paranoia Agent
.hack//SIGN
Guardian of the Spirit
Gunslinger Girl
Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann
Blue Submarine No. 6(?)
I also have a soft spot for Ghost in the Shell: SAC
Any Miyazaki film I've ever seen.
Tokyo Godfathers

Still to see/finish:
NGE
Wolf's Rain
Hellsing
Last Exile
Tsubasa Chronicles
The rest of Miyazaki's work
Other works by Satoshi Kon
Naruto (groan)
Joe's Gundam nonsense
Many others

Fucking sucks:
Bleach

you see i'd be tempted to watch something that looks like the picture on the left, because it doesn't look 'daft'. what i mean by that is probably because it just looks more realistic but has the advantages of that type of animation.

but i am fucking far from being able to distinguish different animation styles, so i would have assumed that the left-hand picture was manga or something. i haven't seen any other manga than the clips shown in Kill Bill, and i thought those looked alright. i'd watch a film like that.

Hellsing

I never watched Hellsing... But the Hellsing OVA is really quite awesome. I only watched like 4 episodes though. I should watch the rest at some point.

Speaking of vampire Animes... I really liked Vampire knight. It's sappy, melodramatic, about romanticized vampires and yada yada... But I still friggin loved it. All added together, it was a beautiful anime, with great style and great music.
I just didn't like the ending. At all :(

Ranma was one of the first animes I ever had the pleasure of watching.

I should look into it again, I enjoyed it a lot.

I love Ghibli films, however Princess Mo is shocking and I'm disappointed in WoF for loving it so. Totoro is the only film anyone should ever watch. Ever.

I like the anime of Fushigi Yuugi, but that's mainly because it's my favourite manga.

Generally, I can't sit through more than an hour of anime in one sitting. I much prefer manga.

Wings of Fire 02-16-2010 05:23 PM

Shocking? It's Miyazaki's masterpiece!

Cammy 02-16-2010 05:53 PM

I like the flame guy in the Howl's Moving Castle movie cause he had a cool voice?

Wings of Fire 02-16-2010 06:12 PM

That's because he was played by Billy Crystal who is an amazing actor?

But I didn't find HMC as good as Nausicaa or Mononoke-Hime though it was still outstanding?
