A new season of Australian football is on the horizon (the NAB cup started tonight) and there are, I'm lead to believe, enough Australian members on this forum. I have an account at Footytips.com, and was thinking of starting an OWF comp. I'll only start the comp if enough people are interested. I was in a 4 man comp last year (I won), and it worked OK. Any small number of people will do.

You don't even have to follow the sport. If you're happy just guessing your way through 22 rounds of foreign sport, feel free to join.

This thread can also serve as a general discussion, although I doubt a sport thread will be a big hit.

Edit: Crap, post 400. I've been here considerably longer than people with considerably more posts than that.

I feel guilty for having so many posts when I haven't even been here a year. When I see respected members who have risen to their lofty positions while posting so little, it puts in perspective how much crap I must post.

what he said. big pansies, falling over and crying whilst receiving pay in the millions. rugby is where its at. and darts is a nice, honest profession. they aren't necessarily paid to do it or managed, and only receive a modest sum of money as a reward for winning World Champion titles and that compared to other sports. its done for the love of it, not the money. that's like a bonus.

therefore, a darts champion does not look like that, because ^this man^ looks nothing like him.

observe the non-obesity, and if you actually watched a game with him in, you'd know he doesn't say anything until the end, where he'll just cheer with the crowd, whether he wins or not. maybe you'll get a nod during play, that's it. so he isn't filled with any grandeur and 'Wolfie' isn't really an ego booster for him; its simply because he looks similar to an old 70's werewolf in semi-transformation.

also maybe take a peek at other competitors, both past and present.

i don't think you 'have me' at all, seeing as you don't really know much about it. same as i don't know much about LARPING. and who gives a fuck what they look like anyway? i don't like The Count myself because he's too full of himself, so don't assume all darts players are like that or that i support that type of player.

I actually do give a fuck what they look like since I'm shallow when it comes to watching things. I do not admire the skill of any sort of sportsman through a screen. Maybe if I observed a sport directly I might get a feel for it like I do for fencing but I doubt it.

I'm very sorry if you play darts or are an active fan and you took what I said personally. The few times I've actually tried to play darts I've found it fun (But very hard), but I do prefer archery when I get the chance.

Also LARPing is gay. Guess who LARPs? My brother, he LARPs.

its not that i took offence, its that other people will read your post and think its true to life, when in fact its not. its a calming sport, nice to watch with a few tins.

i enjoy the sport and try to follow it. so yeah, i was quite defensive.

I do love the way the announcers try to outdo themselves the closer it gets to a perfect score.

I don't particularly like/follow AFL either, but I do like tipping. I don't take it too seriously unless I do well, and even then...

As for Darts, I LOVE darts. We used to play it all the time at the pub with colleagues in London :)
