Which handscars should I get tattooed?
 

Hello everyone!

This is my first post, so be gentle with me. ;)

I have decided to get Abe's handscars tattooed. And yes, I'm going to get them on my hands where they belong, job-stoppers or not. I'm not an office job kind of guy anyway and I'm already 35 years old so I don't think I'll ever become one either.

The only thing that I need to decide now is which ones to go for, the original rock style paramite and scrab pics or the later mudanchee and mudomo signs.

Which ones would you get?

I prefer the Abe's Oddysee tattos more then the later ones and would choose those if I ever got the chance.
But it's up to you. ;)
I vote AO handscars.

Have you got clear images of them? Maybe post them here for us to compare.

I say original. Just have to dye your skin bluish purple, get bloodshot eyes, remove some fingers and toes, change your posture and you'll be a more humanoid Abe.

And starve yourself, don't forget starving yourself...

and stitch your lips, have your nose removed and shave most of your head

I'd say paramite scar because it's funky.

And you have to gain the ability to possess people and revive yourself via bird!

I compiled a Picasa album of the pic's I found on the net. Some are screenshots from YouTube videos and some already circulate the web as pictures.

The original handscars obviously were a piece of cake, but it's actually kind of tricky to find good shots of the newer ones. The symbols can first be seen in Exoddus and it seems that these have been the inspiration for Aaron's tats (also in album). However Abe's newer scars appear to be a bit softer around the edges, so if I were to go for the newer ones, I'd want them more like that.

I'd say AO rock art ones.

I went with the redesigned ones. it took me a while to decide as well. I wanted to go with the rock drawings at first, since those are the original, but the design on the later ones were just so much more crisp. If you are getting them on your hands, though, i think the rock drawings would work pretty well.

Make sure to upload pictures once they're done. Its always fun to meet other tattooed oddworld fans!

Yours look really nice, tox! And agreed, the redesigned ones are definitely the right choice for you, especially since you have other stuff going on around them too.

But on the hands the originals might work better, as you said. I'm leaning a bit toward them atm, but I'm still pondering. The problem is that I really like the original paramite but the scrab is a bit messy, whereas the redesigned scrab looks great. I might sit down with a pen and some paper and see if I could make the AO scrab look a bit more defined without changing it too much. I'll probably try redrawing all designs anyway to see what I can make of them.

And I can do even better than post pics when I've got the tats. A friend is making a documentary about fan tattoos and I'm going to be in it! :)

What about the chest tattoo? That would definitely get some looks in the pool. People would ask what it means and you could say: 'It helps me heal all my sick friends'

And then you could get sectioned.

I would go for the original Scrab one.

Maybe if you ask OWI for a very nice resolution picture of this thing for making that tattoo, they might even give it to you!

Well that's one thing too. I'm not going for the chest tattoo, although you did make it sound very tempting. ;) So in that respect the original AO rock tats would be better. The redesigned ones would almost require the chest tat to complete the set.

i'd go with the original rock art ones if i were to have them. i'm getting the Slig Barracks logo on my forearm eventually, but it looks like it'll be around June/July time at the moment. i'll see how things go; i may be able to get it done sooner. i like the logos, but i doubt i'll have any more Oddworld-related tats after that. just nice artwork.

Have you looked on TOGG? I think there might be some of the original designs for the tattoos.

I did a similar thing when I was twenty. I got a bird on each forearm, just as my Grandad had, just so that I'd have something impossible to lose to remind me of him when he passed away, and they are very nice. Most tattoos are tacky and quite off-putting, but a good old forearm tattoo can be as very nice decoration. I should imagine the logo for the slig barracks would be particularly interesting.

Get all of them.
Get the two original ones on each hand, and then the Abe's Exoddus ones on each butt cheek.

that sounds smashing, i really like the meaning of it, too. with that logo, i may have it in black & white. as you said, tattoos can look tacky, and colour can be a big contributor to that outcome. i can vouch for certain colours looking terrible on skin, unless its really cleverly/skilfully worked.

Yeah, the designs for the newer versions can be found there, but I didn't come across any pics of the original ones. But that's not really a big problem, since they can be seen so well in the cutscene movies. I'll just get a good quality screenshot and work it over in Photoshop.

And yes, I have now decided to definitely get the original rock art versions. The more I look at them, the better they look. Especially the scrab one which I had reservations about at first. :)

The magical date will be March 24th, so I'll have to wait a little while longer before I can start practising my Shrykull moves. ;)

The Mudomo and Mudanchee rockart symbols are in the manual for Abe's Exoddus, too. Small, but flat.

I'm not much for tattoos, but I think Oddworld is one of the few pieces of media out there with enough sway over me to ever convince me to permanently scar my flesh.

Rock Art if you are going for the hands, otherwise the redesigned version

Thanks to you I decided to get the Exodus version of the scrab handscars on the tippy top of my left arm...couple of weeks time when the sc(r)abs go away I'll upload it and I will also start the paramite version on my other arm XD.

As far as the hands go, id say the original AO would look good. I kinda like the newer scrab rendition, but mixing them would look weird :D

I can never decide which I like better, but thinking about it, the AO originals would probably look better on your hands. The AE ones seem like shoulder tattoos....yeaahh.

I'm all eager to get mine and the wait seem sooo long now that I have decided on the pics. But I want to go to my favourite tattoo studio even if it isn't that complicated of a job, so gotta wait.
