Quotes and pictures

When you quote someone who posted a picture, it automatically quotes the pictures as well. This can get a little frustrating when you quote people in places like Bits and Pieces or Fan Corner, since people tend to post rows and rows of large pictures there.

And since we're all lazy pieces of shit who wouldn't edit a quote if it saved a baby on fire, is there some sort of hack out there that changes a quoted picture to a link to that picture? Observe:

"Hey guys, check out this awesome picture I just found!

http://i169.photobucket.com/albums/u...88918_2774.jpg

Lol!"

Would turn into this:

:

Hey guys, check out this awesome picture I just found! :D

[Picture]

Lol!

In this case the posted picture gets reduced to a link and the smiley is left out completely. I've seen this on another forum I visit often and it makes for much nicer reading of a topic.

I don't tend to quote giant pictures, but good suggestion anyway. You should probably sticky this, or merge it into an instructions thread.

T-nex 01-13-2010 02:57 PM

Why not just delete it when you quote it?

I think his point is that whilst you and I would do that, enough people are too lazy to make some sort of plugin a worthwhile time investment. I support this idea.

Havoc 01-13-2010 03:27 PM

And even for the people who do edit out pictures, I have had plenty of times where I hit the quote button, enter my message and hit submit. Most of the time I don't feel like going back to edit the post after that, especially if there are like 20 pictures or something in it.

I prefer the idea of negrepping people for doing it. When I quote posts, I remove unnecessary images. But I also recognize that sometimes you want the image to appear in the quote, so I do not approve of an automated image remover.

Leto 01-13-2010 04:59 PM

This is such a stupid idea. Encourage lazy fucks? Gtfo.

Pilot 01-13-2010 05:20 PM

Seriously. I just remove the code from the quote. Half the time I type in my own quote tags.

LAZY

ASS.

Leto 01-13-2010 05:22 PM

yeah, seriously. i always copy and paste, then write in the quote tags myself. obv this means i have to insta-edit something because i go like
:

[quote]sup, my name's leto[q/uote]
or some stupid shit like that

what?

Wil 01-14-2010 02:49 AM

I think the Forums could do with some kind of instructions thread cum style guide. For things that aren't exactly rules. Quoting appropriately definitely falls into this category.

abe is now! 01-14-2010 05:46 AM

Havoc, it's an interesting idea, but I think that someone who visits Bits & Pieces (for example that thread) prefers seeing immediately the pic wich the other is talking than clicking on a link and opening a new page.

Isn't Hammock a unit of measurement?

MeechMunchie 01-14-2010 08:03 AM

The unit of shoe size is a Barleycorn. Isn't that brilliant? It's equivalent to a third of an inch. 'This size 8 is too small. Get me one a Barleycorn bigger!'

Pilot 01-14-2010 08:11 AM

This is what I had in mind:

Family Guy Jackee Harry's Grocey Shopper - Click here for the funniest movie of the week

I'd also like a desk of cheezits.

Wil 01-14-2010 08:17 AM

Oh brilliant, I didn't know that. God bless imperial measurements and imperial Britain.

At least the music is tasteful.

Sabre-Toothed Lime 01-15-2010 11:50 PM

Okay, Where the hell is this music emitting from? It sounds like musical clowns on crack.

Sabre-Toothed Lime 01-15-2010 11:58 PM

Aha! after a thorough investigation, I conclude Strike Witch did some stuff to make some weird power ranger music com from some invisible YouTube video!

Ninja!
