Your ten favourite games

Go, countdown style!

10, Final Fantasy VI (III) - Game Boy Advance/Playstation (Played on both)

9, Super Smash Bros. Melee - Gamecube

8, Metroid Prime - Gamecube

7, Silent Hill 2 - Playstation 2

6, Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem - Gamecube

5, Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time - Playstation 2
- Almost certainly the most visually impressive and adrenaline filled adventure game I've ever played. It kicks seven kinds of ass over the sequels and the Tower of Dawn segment remains one of the most beautiful and flowing scenes I have ever played. Definitely one to get.

4, Phoenix Wright Ace Attorny: Trials and Tribulations - DS
-Probably one of the most tightly plotted game narratives I've seen, and I play a lot of games for the storyline. The way the first, fourth and final case interlink is incredibly well done and the sheer amount of plot threads the final case manages to tie up is amazing. Hell, I'd buy it for the final case, it's just that good.

3, ICO - Playstation 2
-I had this game for seven days and completed it in three, so why is it on my list? Because it's one of the most breathtaking and amazing experiences I have ever had in a game. Everything is just so huge and gorgeous and atmospheric. I can't do it justice by just talking about it. If there's anyone on this forum who hasn't played this and is given the opportunity then go for it.

2, Pokemon Silver - Game Boy
-Well what can I say? The first Pokemon (Indeed the first hand-held) game I ever played and by far my favourite because of the updated roster, the inclusion of the region from G1 and the mass of improved systems. Also Suicune. I loved this to bits for over four years and managed to catch every pokemon as yet available. Seriously a classic.

1, Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask - N64
-This is my favourite game, and objectively one of the best games I have ever played. Criminally overlooked compared to it's predecessor and very deep and intricate, another one I finished 100%. The sheer amount of sidequests make for an intensely enjoyable and long lasting game, and fuck me do you feel powerful after you get your game breaking reward for all that effort.

Now you!

OANST 01-12-2010 06:51 AM

10, Mega Man 2
-I was obsessed with this game as a kid. I loved the first Mega Man, but this is the one that grabbed me the most.

9, Super Mario 64
-I wasn't playing video games a great deal when I was in high school, but when I got this I just couldn't put it down until I had every star.

8, Castlevania 2
-The black sheep of the Castlevania series is also my favorite in the series. At the time, I was amazed by the disinformation that villagers would give. Their tips would be almost right, but just a little off. For instance, to pass a mountain, a villager tells you to carry the white orb and bang your head against the mountain three times. What you actually needed to do was kneel next to the mountain for ten seconds while holding the orb, and a whirlwind would pick you up. This was made extra confusing because when Simon walks, he thrusts his head forward. So, if you are walking pressed against an object it looks like you are banging your head against it.

Of course, I discovered later that it was just a bad translation.

7, Tetris
-Any child of the 80's could tell you how important Tetris was to us. I

6, Breath of Fire
-I loved this game when I was a kid

5, Oddworld series
-These are the games that got me back into video games. April picked up her playstation, and her copy of Abe's Exoddus from her house, and I was immediately hooked. I was 20 years old, and hadn't really played a video game since Mario 64.

4, Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker
I love this game. I just absolutely love it.

3, Ico
This game changed the way that I look at video games. It's art. Pure art. The fact that they were able to portray the story and emotions that they did with such a small amount of dialogue is amazing.

2, Shadow of the Colossus
Again, it's art.

1, Psychonauts
The best game that I have ever played. Story, dialogue, art, and gameplay came together to keep me fascinated through about ten playthroughs.

I would also like to mention Braid, The Maw, and Splosion Man. I really loved those games, as well.

I am awful at countdowns, since my favorites constantly waver, but ten would be:

10. The Diablo series - Pure, undiluted clickage and nonstop action, with an RPG elegantly draped over it.

9. The Black and White series - Lets face it, everybody loves playing God. (Spore is at 11) Plus my hands look like the evil one. Great atmosphere, too.

8. Portal - Makes your brain melt, in a good way. Plus, physics.

7. Rayman 3: Hoodlum Havoc - Diablo II in third person, but with enough atmosphere, secrets and variety to make you feel like you've played 20 different games.

6. Worms: World Party - The game to play with friends round.

5. Darwinia and Multiwina - It may have the most strategic depth, but Darwinia absolutely nailed thst feeling of dynamism - once you've started, you will not stop until the virus are defeated, even if it means you just watch an infinite steam of magical little green men flow over the polygonised landscape. Also, philosophy.

4. AO and AE - Quite possibly the most atmospheric games ever made. Exploited the 2nd dimension to levels we will never see again.

3. Morrowind and Oblivion (Yes, I will lump them together) - Deep, detailed and vast, these were true epics, and they were about you.

2. The Dawn of War series - Best RTSs ever. Redefined strategy, and let the tiny details win enourmous battles. Dynamic, good-looking, and WH40K to the core. Also, TEAM PAINTING <3

1. Team Fortress 2 - It's great, you all know it's great, so I won't bore you.

That will stay accurate for about a week.

Josh 01-12-2010 08:54 AM

1.The Sims 2
The first game I ever played on a PC was the Sims 1. The Sims 2 is better than the Sims 1 and 3.
2.Spore
I like to make aliens and play god.
http://static.spore.com/static/thumb...0414320538.png
LOVE IT!
3.Half Life 2
I saw my brother playing Half Life 1 and could not stop watching. The story and the aliens captured me.
4.Portal
The Humor and gameplay are fantastic. I like games that are different to BLAMBLAMBLAMBALAM Nect Level BLAM etc..
5.Oddworld: Abe's Exoddus
I just find it fun and love the art and story.
6.Fable 2
I don't really like games like Fable, but it's somehow different. Magic and shit normally doesent intrest me.
7.Fallout 3
Same as above, bar the magic crap. I also think Mirelurks are adorable.
8.Carmageddon TDR 2000
The only car game that I like, mainly because of the story and how fucking weird it is.
9.Team Fortress 2
I know I said I don't like games like this, but I find this one fun.
10.Black and White
Furry animals and god powers. Whats not to like?

As you can see, I like god/simulation games and games where I can blow the fuck out of everything. As well as AE, Portal, Fable and HL2.

OANST 01-12-2010 09:02 AM

I can't believe that I left out Half Life 2, Portal, and Left 4 Dead. I really like those games, as well.

Mac Sirloin 01-12-2010 09:27 AM

In no particular order:

Resident Evil 4: omg fun. Ignoring how it made Resident Evil more fun (for me, other people understandably like the other games playstyles better), it's just downright fun. Replaying it for the supa weapons doesn't hurt, either.

Dead Space: It's just so fucking good. And Isaac Clarke has one of my favorite designs ever. UNF.
Photobucket

Half Life 2 (Including the episodes): Worth playing through at least once a year.

Team Fortress 2: The only game I've logged over 200 hours in I think, if not more. I wish I had the updates, though :(. Also Xbox live.

Rez: So much fun just to watch. Also surprisingly epic at the end for a game abouWHITE NOISE IS GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOLD

Bioshock: Same as Dead Space. So good, Big Daddies have an AWESOME design, and that voice work is just fucking awesome. Also pretty unnerving.

Strangers Wrath: I'm a sucker for westerns. If it had some kind of replay value it would've probably been my perfect game.

Donkey Kong Country (1, 2 and 3, but not 64): Fucking nostalgia. I also wish I could be playing these right now. All at once.

Earthworm Jim (series, even 3D): Literally my most favorite childhood character ever. I once woke my parents up at 7:30 AM Just to watch a VHS of it that I rented the night before on their TV/ VCR.

Megaman X: All of them. I fucking love Megaman.

Special Mention for Super Mario World, Left 4 Dead, Megaman Battle Network and Sonic the Hedgehog 2.

Double Special Mention For Psychonauts, Splosion Man and Borderlands.

slig# 5719 01-12-2010 09:56 AM

10, Black and White - PC
So much better then 2 in my opinion, I spent a lot of time on this and had the expansion pack, I spent most of my time on skirmish (which is probably why I don't like 2 as much)

9, Pokemon Snap - N64
This game was so much fun, I spent ages getting the wierd poses such as balloon Pikachu or the three Jigglypuffs.

8, Warioware Smooth Moves - Wii
A random mess of strange, colourfull, nosepicking randomness with some old Nintendo games thrown in.

7, Shadow of Memories - Playstation 2
Called Shadow of Destiny in America, a game with literally no action and is almost completely storytelling with a bit of puzzle shoved in here and there. The game has about 8 endings (I think) and I wasn't expecting the murderer to be who it was.

6, Majoras Mask - Gamecube (Zelda collecters edition)
A great Zelda game filled with more fun and annoyances then it's predecessor.

5, Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time - Playstation 2
This game was great, the only PS2 game I have thorougly played through more then twice. My favourite parts are the tower of dawn's fighting and that scene where you get the dagger back from farah near the end.

4, Pokemon Silver - Gameboy Colour
I spent many an hour on this game... Until the save feature died. It has so much more stuff on it then Red (the only other GB Pokemon I have played). A long time was spent trying to figure out and failing to figure out that unknown infested place.

3, The Sims 2 Pets - Playstation 2
The only reason I choose this over the PC version is because you can run around as the sim instead of the point and click method. If I had the original Sims 2 for PS2 that would be here instead due to it's 2-player capability.

2, Shadow Hearts Covenant - Playstation 2
A JRPG kind of like the battle system for FFX except with loads more stuff. This game can be both serious (such as referances to WWI) and take the piss (such as the man festival where the characters fight 100 floors of wrestling rings containing men in nappies wearing plates of curry for hats).

1, Digital Devil Saga 2 - Playstation 2
Out of all of my PS2 games I will have to say that this has the most darkest story of all and i'm just a sucker for dark and depressing storylines. Its a turn-based JRPG about people who can turn into demons and need to eat each other to survive. The game continues straight after the first one so that should be played first (plus there are bonuses for starting a new game with completed data from the first one).

If I had a PS3 or 360 this list would probably be different.

OANST 01-12-2010 09:59 AM

Oh, and I really liked Okage, too.

Fuck off, it's the best.

Wings of Fire 01-13-2010 12:07 AM

No wai bitch, the (semi) original on the Dreamcast is the best.

Strike Witch 01-13-2010 12:19 AM

That one didn't have create-a-fighter OR Cassandra's butt attack.

Taco 01-13-2010 12:24 AM

10. Age of Empires I, Rise of Rome (PC) - This game is pure awesomeness. It's what got me into RTS games and I'll always have an insane amount of fun with the map editor.

9. Microsoft Flight Simulator X (PC) - Very fun and good multiplayer experience.

8. Call of Duty 2 (PC) - Fun to play, good graphics, excellent multiplayer, cool story bro.

7. Donkey Kong Country (SNES) - It's Donkey Kong, it's great.

6. Super Mario Bros (The original one for NES, I forgot what it's fucking called exactly)

5. The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion (PC) - Epic RPG

4. Knights of the Old Republic (XBOX/PC) - Even more epic. Great storyline.

3. Broken Sword I (PC) - great storyline, great art, great soundtrack, great memories.

2. Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis/ and the Infernal Machine (PC) - For some reason I really loved both, really got into the second one.

1. Abe's Exoddus (PC) - the first game I couldn't stop playing. I got immersed in the awesome environments, and must've replayed it about 20 times since I first got it.

That one didn't have create-a-fighter OR Cassandra's butt attack.

Eh, the one that brought in create-a-fighter was the worst in the series, also I think in Soul Calibur 1 Sophitia still giggled and said 'Sorry!' after hitting men in the groin.

Strike Witch 01-13-2010 03:10 AM

So? 3 is not 4. And Cassandra is 100% cooler then her sister.

CLIFFRACER SKREE

slig# 5719 01-13-2010 04:21 AM

Gah, Cliffracers were my bane when I first played Morrowind, they were just everywhere (still are). A low level character with no sense of direction or purpose with low maximum health is not what you want to be when you find a group of them.

So? 3 is not 4. And Cassandra is 100% cooler then her sister.

I'm saying my thoughts on the character creation system of 4 were immediately cynical given its predecessor.

But anyway this is about favourites not critical acclaim or whatever. I'm sorry I brought it up <3.

Especially if you've just got Levitate and you fly over Ghostagate. You here a sound. You turn around. 10 Cliff Racers, all Blighted, all angry, andd only 30 seconds of flight left. Oh shi~

True, Sophitia is a whiny bitch. Anyway, Soul Caliber 2 is the best game out of the series. Feck Create a Fighter, it had the best story and Raphael beofe he got all insane and dark.

Oh you did not just say that.

It's fucking true. I have not a shit to give for fighting games and Soul Calibur 2 actually kept me fucking interested.

Wings of Fire 01-13-2010 09:13 AM

Was kind of a joke about the whole 'X is better than Y' thing.

Eh.

Mac Sirloin 01-13-2010 09:32 AM

Oh, went right over my head.
