The True Spirit of Boxing Day

Many people have wondered; What is this 'Boxing Day' and why do we get the day off from work for an event for which historians can't even agree on a source?

Well, the answer is here, ladies and gentlemen. The true spirit of Boxing Day is making costumes out of cardboard boxes and beating the shit out of other people who have done the same.

The Dalek actually snuck up behind Bender. It was surprisingly nimble.

There were about five or ten Benders but this one was the most intricate. S/he was also holding a beer for much of the day.

What these people don't know is that it's a chick inside the costume. Somehow all of us were surprised when the mask was violently removed and we saw that.

I was quite impressed by the guy on the left and he didn't even have half his costume on. His full costume is in the next picture.

I only just realised that that guy is dressed as Voltron. Awesome.

This costume was absolutely brilliant. He was also a good tactician in the battle; holding back until most people had fallen apart and then running in to the fray.

Battle to the death!

So, for those of you whose timezones are still in Boxing Day (which is everyone in the world, at least for the next half hour), go out and get some boxes, grab some friends and kick some arse.

Awesome! I wish I could, but with no boxes or friends it might difficult.

I knew the machines would rebel.
I knew it.

That's pretty awesome. Although, that Bender looks kinda sad

LARPing just got better, i have got to do that sometime.

Is there any way that the next Oddtour can fall on boxing day?

MeechMunchie 12-26-2009 07:32 AM

It honestly looks like a beige factory just stood up and was like. "You know what? Fuck this shit."

shaman 12-26-2009 10:26 AM

No, but seriously. It is imperitive that we focus on making this happen one day.

Now I wish we had a useless holiday to spend frolicking and beating eachother with cardboard boxes.

abe is now! 12-26-2009 01:10 PM

It seems to be funny! But where did this event take place?

Hobo 12-26-2009 04:39 PM

And people say I have too much free time?

EDIT: That was directed at the map, not the robots. I wish for a proper Australian like Strike Witch to learn me in the ways of the cardboard robot.

Pilot 12-26-2009 08:32 PM

Where are the Boxing Kangaroos? I thought you had those.

Phylum 12-26-2009 10:09 PM

I hate tourists that expect to see kangaroos walking/crawling/hopping/bounding down the streets.

THEY DON'T!

What, you mean the time it took me to type 'Caulfield Park' in to Google Maps (with a firefox search shortcut, I might add), zoom in a bit, click the 'Share' button and copy-paste the embed code? Like, all of 30 seconds?

Yeah, I have that much free time.

THEY DON'T!

They did when I visited.

Phylum 12-26-2009 11:29 PM

They didn't when I've lived there all my life?

The box-dreadnought looks like it would rape the others. I wounder if any stray 'robots' were shot by police...

Fuzzle Guy 12-28-2009 04:56 AM

I say we all get together next year and make a lifesized Rupture Farms, complete with Sligs and Slaves.
