RATM vs Joe McElderry conclusion

As you may have heard (people in the UK) that RATM beat X-Factor winner Joe McElderry in the fight for the UK christmas No. 1...for all those outside the UK, you now know of it.

I'm actually happy to be part of the movement that knocked Cowell off his pedestal but what was your opiniion on this...an underhand move against Cowell or to actually see no reality star fag win...again.

OddjobAbe 12-20-2009 11:59 AM

I bought the Rage Against the Machine song even though I don't like them. I just want to spite that smarmy twat Simon Cowell. I fucking hate X Factor. I'll be honest, I much prefer Rage Against the Machine to the mushy fucking drivel that is the boring and incredibly mainstream music produced by the pop bunch.

Wings of Fire 12-20-2009 12:00 PM

You've all been conned.

Honestly, words cannot begin to express the amount of shit I could not give.

Hobo 12-20-2009 12:05 PM

I like RATM and am glad the X factor didn't win. Also; I didn't buy the single but will probably attend the free gig. I am so fucking kick ass.

Wil 12-20-2009 01:21 PM

I'm sure a better piece of music could have been selected. I'm not sure which hurts my ears more.

Ridg3 12-20-2009 01:31 PM

I agree, we should've have chosen a worse song so we can really make the loss sting a lot more such as a Cannibal Corpse song.

Nate 12-20-2009 03:00 PM

I'm confused; was this an orchestrated campaign against Simon Cowell?

Give some context for us furriners.

MA 12-20-2009 03:21 PM

RATM won and i am fucking glad, no more crap from Simon Cuntowell. not keen on the actual song, but prefer that a hell of a lot better than bullshit XFactor music of any kind. my friend Sticks joined the FB group a while back.

how have we? honestly. how can you be conned out of voting for a bloody song? fuck sake scientist. HRMMMMGH

Wings of Fire 12-20-2009 03:27 PM

Okay. Simon Cowell owns a music label called Syco.

Syco is a subsidary group of a larger corporation you might have heard of named Sony Music Entertainment.

The band Rage Against the Machine are signed to a music label called Sony Music Entertainment, they recieved all the profits of people who would normally buy the X Factor single as well as a huge amount of surplus profits from people who don't watch or buy X Factor merchandise buying, sometimes up to ten times, a record that they own the rights to.

Simon Cowell is personally responsible for creating this drama and giving Sony a very very tidy profit over the last few weeks.

So what exactly has been achieved for the common man, hmmm?

MA 12-20-2009 03:32 PM

i didn't read that cus i am cuntfaced so i'll agree with you and syphon a few gallons of petrol for you later, yeah?

Wings of Fire 12-20-2009 03:33 PM

FIGHT THE POWER

Fuzzle Guy 12-20-2009 03:34 PM

If I were an eccentric Billionaire I would have bought a million copies of Stand and Deliver last minute on Saturday night, just to really confuse the fuck out of people when they find that neither X-Factor or RATM got the number one.

You're missing the point. I believe the original point was about making a little change. I believe that the people responsible for this business were bothered by the X Factor's "winning" streak. I don't think that it was to spite Cowell (although I voted for this reason - whilst I knew I wasn't spiting him, it's the closest I'll probably ever come to doing).

Wings of Fire 12-20-2009 03:36 PM

Sure it's a blow for something resembling 'culture' but it's not going to change anything and it's STILL FUCKING STUPID TO BUY TEN COPIES OF A SONG YOU ALREADY OWN!

MA 12-20-2009 03:37 PM

i'll post what i edited into my original post seeing as a few people posted in between;

EDIT: and my achievement is not having to listen to some soppy fucking crap-sack shit-faced fucking cunt bollocks wank fuck prick knob-head soppy song about three hundred thousand times this year, that's what. this is one of those situations where it doesn't matter whether we've been technically conned, it just makes us happier. like paying extra for a pint after hours.

Fuzzle Guy 12-20-2009 03:39 PM

It's about people power, Joe! An Oddworld fan, of all people, should understand that.

Of course it's not going to change anything. It's just a mild inconvenience for the X Factor participant and people who give a shit about him. The common man has acheived his goal by placing a metaphorical lampost in the meaphorical path of the X Factor participant, which after metaphorically walking into it will end up back on the metaphorical causeway.

We should meet up sometime considering we live about fifteen miles from each other, we'll call it Oddtour 3.75 A Taste of Things Yet To Come

Staring: Wings of Fire as the long haired, ditzy, eccentric academic in training,
and
Mollucks Assistant as the down to earth Mexican drinker.

We'd make such a comedy couple.

MA 12-20-2009 03:51 PM

you'd best fucking mean that. it must now be done.

i am hunting you down.

If the system in your country works the same way as in Australia, you would actually have to go to a billion different stores and buy one copy each time. If you went in to one store and bought multiple copies in one transaction, it only counts as one sale.

FYI.

Wings of Fire 12-20-2009 04:26 PM

There's this little thing called iTunes, and I believe it counts for the majority of these sales...

There's this little thing called a username and a credit card number... it's quite easy to track this shit.

Wings of Fire 12-20-2009 04:36 PM

I'm going to have to look that up then, if you're right it'll be a hilarious thing to tell my friend WHO BOUGHT TEN COPIES.

MA 12-20-2009 04:51 PM

THERE'S THIS LITTLE THING CALLED SHUT THE FUCK UP PEOPLE

Josh 12-21-2009 03:07 AM

I'm glad that X- Craptor isn't Xmas number 1. I just love the idea of loads of people eating Xmas dinner and then the song comes on the radio.

Wil 12-21-2009 03:12 AM

Buying multiple copies on iTunes only counts as a single sale, if it counts at all. Buy enough (more than two, perhaps) and it's flagged up as suspicious behaviour, and doesn't count at all.

IT SAYS SO IN THE GROUP.

Financially, this changes nothing, it's true. But it's a slap in the face to the manufactured shit that X-Factor celebrates and creates. Which won't change anything, but it's really satisfying.

Nate 12-21-2009 03:33 AM

So... uhhh... seeing as everyone ignored first post in this thread... Who orchestrated this campaign? How did they decide on RATM? Did RATM themselves promote the idea?
