Favorite Game Intros
Obviously context is important. Morrowind and Oblivion's intros were 30 seconds long, but it spurred you to figure out what the hell was going on. I like the fast-paced whooshiness of the Black & White intro, too.

The Tomb Raider 1 intro.
|
The Suffering intro. good game.
|
OOh ,Aoe2 definateley
|
Ooh, AO too. It really creeped me out the fist time I saw it.
|
Ico.

Bioshock did a really good job of bringing you in to Rapture and making the whole thing seem plausible. But my all time favourite has got to be Day of the Tentacle, especially the credits sequence (beginning at 2:20) |
Oblivion definitely.
|
Stranger's Wrath.
|
AO, Beyond Good and Evil, Shadow of the Colossus, and Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles. Can't really decide which one my favorite is. Though I really like FFCC for the great opening song and nice visuals. Doesn't tell you jack about the story, but let's you know you're in for something awesome.

As for favorite game intros, Oddworld is probably my top. Coming in at a close second would be the tantalizingly ambiguous openings to the Silent Hill games. Bioshock was nice, though I felt they weren't consistent in the way the FMV's were sequenced/paced. I also tend love those interactive movie/games like Dragon's Lair and Braindead 13, though those are all pretty much one, long, interactive movie sequence. |
2D adventure platformers had the best intros. Another World, Abe's Oddysee, Heart of Darkness.
And then there's also this. Which I am not sure what it would be categorized as, but it's cool either way. Muppets in space! |
:
EDIT: and the dog in Heart Of Darkness was called Whisky, which is odd seeing as my old dog at the time was also called Whisky. not a very common name. |
The Half-life 2 Intro was freaky at first. i love it ^^
|
FFX's intro was quite awesome.
|
HoD's is actually sort of similar to B&W's in the 'rushing through space' aspect:
Dungeon Keeper's was fantastic. |
Dungeon Keeper intro was great, and i just remembered Giant Citizen Kabuto. the first decent PC game i had, and i still love it. humour that can actually make you laugh out loud, which isn't always common in a computer game.
|
Oddworld and Half-Life 2 from the top of my head. Assassins Creed and Left 4 Dead have pretty cool intro's too.
|
From the top of my head...
B&W, FFVIII, Theme Hospital, Oddworld series, Primal. |
Most of mine have already been mentioned. Others include Brutal Legend (with the initial gameplay moments), ODST, Riven.
|
Conker's Bad Fur Day. Nothing says 'awesome', like a freakin' chainsaw. WHO'S WITH ME!?
|
and btw speaking of HoD , it had a huge roll in get me into V*** , no that's not swearing that's my fetish but i am doing cuz i don't wanna annoy ppl.
and also it rocked as a game , but in my case i win both ways , if i lose i get eaten ( my favorite was the first encounter with the huge monster thing , which comes out with 2 other monster , but only he eats u , one blocks u from going back and the 3rd one is just there) and if i win , i win! |
The Fallout games have good intros.
|
oh i forgot..........
|
I've only played Fallout 2 and don't really remember the intro. I think the animation wasn't nearly as good as AO, and it was made in 1998.
All the Oddworld games have damned fine intros. |
:
The Fallout series intros where good too. I liked the intro to The Guild 2. |
Red Alert 3,
How can you not love Tim Curry! |
TIM CURRY FTW
He's the fucking most fucking awesomest fucking guy that fucking ever fucking lived. |
See, this is why I don't swear.
|
I like the intro to Return to Castle Wolfenstein... And it's spin-off: Enemy Territory. AO is definately number one in my list of best cutscenes though... Right now, I'm a little blank when it comes to intros and the like.
