Bullguard and virus

Ok... This is sort of strange. I think it happened twice now, but I think it's just a fake alarm.

You know that weird thing that Firefox sometimes does when you click a link on the forum? It tries to download the page instead of accessing it. This happened on other computers too, so I know it's not my comp.

Anyway now it downloads it automatically, and my Anti-virus "Bullguard" which came with vista then gives me a warning that some generic trojan is trying to infect my computer. Could this just be because of Firefox's odd behavior?
I'm sure OWF isn't infected... But I just want confirmation.

So does anyone know about this or experienced something similar?

enchilado 11-24-2009 05:30 PM

Sorry, I haven't. Firefox has never tried to download a page for me.

~are you sure its just not you?

If your browser is downloading an entire website (?!) in html form or whatever, that's a bug in your browser, not the website.

Also, Bullguard sucks. Go get yourself some decent anti virus software.

She might have clicked the 'Save Link As...' context menu option.

Another possibility is that the server/vBulletin/etc might be sending incorrect headers, but I can't see how it would be localised to one person.

Alcar...

I've had the problem of Firefox trying to download the pages when you click on them, on the odd occasion, but never any false positives from my anti-virus.

@Havoc - It doesn't try to download the entire website, just the relevant php file. It hasn't done it me for a while though.

I already said it happened on several different computers.... So if it's a bug, it's a bug that affects not only me... Although.... I'm not sure I actually experienced this on other sites besides OWF. But OWF is bugged too... Unless I too am the only who has to click send, then back, then send again to post to a blog.

Also lay off bullguard... It came with Vista, so I'm gonna use it till it expires. I actually don't think it sux. Although I bet there is better software out there.

Yea.. that's what it does.

How to give 'helpful' information in a way that doesn't actually give the essential information needed to find said decent anti virus software and still manage to irritate the OP, by Havoc.

and no, i have never caught anything from OWF.
cue the innuendo about catching crabs and other sexually-passed parasites/infections.

Grow up and use Chrome.

MA 11-25-2009 09:28 AM

took some getting used to after using the 'classic' explorer for so long.

STM 11-25-2009 10:43 AM

i hate change, i thought exactly that. but i was forced into changing as Internet Explorer was fucking about. i was told i'd need to download a more up to date net-explorer...thing.

T-nex 11-25-2009 12:05 PM

Meh... I don't see the need for Chrome... If someone can tell me what's so great about it, I may consider. But as it is, I feel fine with Firefox. It has lots of stuff that I frequently use, although I do get irritated at how much memory it sometimes eats.

I actually witched to K-meleon at some point.... It's simple and to the point... And it's compatible with Firefox. But now that I have a better comp, Firefox doesn't really cause that much problem anymore.

But as far as I know.. Chrome is yet just another alternative browser for people to use and feel good about. But honestly. Google needs some competition, so meh.

Hobo 11-25-2009 01:20 PM

You're not like holding down alt all the time are you.

T-nex 11-25-2009 01:23 PM

... No.. O_o why do you ask? Should that have any effect?

AckroTheSlig 11-26-2009 12:54 PM

Aha, nope.. I've got firefox and it's never done that to me before.
Maybe you've got someone trying to hack you?
Some lifeless son of a gun with nothing better to do.
Wouldn't surprise me one bit.
Maybe you have a crappy virus protector,
I recommend Comodo Virus protector, look it up. :]

T-nex 11-26-2009 03:03 PM

Um... I'm certain no one is trying to hack me.. As I said, this happens on many computers, not just mine. So the cases aren't connected. Just a bug somewhere in the whole wide system. The system that is trying to eat you. And cause you trouble... But I have my cane riiight here, and I'll let no virus bug me!

enchilado 11-26-2009 03:08 PM

USE LYNX ALREADY

T-nex 11-26-2009 03:13 PM

But seriously... To all of you who are here merely to suggest to me that I should change system, browser, anti-virus, firewall, computer, minesweeper or underwear... It's not going to happen :) So I consider it spam.

Apparently, I think no one has a clue about my problem so I don't think there's any solution... Than to wonder about the big system.

enchilado 11-26-2009 03:18 PM

Don't worry, that was a joke. Lynx is text-only and I use Firefox too. This has never happened to me so I can only say that I hope you find some solution.
