Overclocking
 

Hey people of OWF, I have returned for your help on just a little question on overclocking my laptop processor. I am running on Intel Core 2 Duo T5750 2.0gHz, and have tried using setFSB to push up the mHz but when I move the slider along the bar to increase the processor frequency on ultra, even on full (7/7, not very high, another problem!) there is no change in the clock speed! Any help is much appreciated...

If any more info is required please say, I will post again.

Do NOT... I repeat... NOT overclock a laptop's CPU... EVER.

Laptops are not known for their extreme cooling performance. In fact, chances are that your laptop is already getting pretty hot when it's in idle mode. Most laptops will barely be able to handle their CPU under 100% load for long before it shuts down or dies of heat.

Overclocking a CPU brings a lot of extra heat with it because it has to do more in a short amount of time. Especially if you plan on overclocking it to it's maximum potential you have a very real chance to completely wreck (read: melt away) your laptop, should the safety mechanisms decide to fail.

Most laptops have the overclocking ability under lock and key for this very reason and the 'overclocking' slider is probably just a tool to indicate how much of the processors 100% (the 2 gHz per core) you actually want to use. Chances are that it's running on much much less most of the time.

So basic sum up: Even if you manage to get to the overclocking settings, I would not recommend using them unless you want to fry/melt a hole in your laptop.

Hehe, I am getting a new one soon and this one is headed for no-where but the bin, but I was just considering searching for a bit of last ditch performance. But if you are so adamant then thanks for the advice. :P
