Art of slig# 5719

I have restarted drawing (again). So I decided to start an album thread since I was planning on drawing some oddworld stuff.

I did a quick slig drawing yesterday (My first oddworld drawing :p). Still a bit rusty, but it turned out better then I expected so I decided to post it here.

Hope you like it. :fuzwink:

Oddey 11-12-2009 05:41 AM

Believe it or not, I personally think that's pretty good, and you ought to continue.

MA 11-12-2009 07:16 AM

very nice work on the legs.

slig# 5719 11-12-2009 08:54 AM

Thanks for the positive comments.

I'm currently drawing a Glukkon, so I should have that up the next time I have access to the computer. I usually use my phone and the magic that is Wi-Fi to use this forum.

EDIT:
The glukkon and a quick picture of the front entrance of Rupture Farms are done. I shall upload them later. I liked how the glukkon came out, but i'm not too sure about the Rupture Farms one.

Dryadri 11-12-2009 12:09 PM

I literally just saw that slig picture on deviantART, right before I clicked this, how strange xD
Anywho, nice work there :) looking good.

mr.odd 11-12-2009 05:18 PM

Very nice, looks just like the original.

enchilado 11-12-2009 11:50 PM

Yep, I like it. I've been doing some OW sketches lately myself, I must upload them. Doing a cartoon kind of style, I've done Sligs and a Slog or two and some Mudokons and Glukkons and Greeters and so on... tell you what, Glukkon bodies aren't as easy as you'd think!

~mhm, I suppose that'll mean trying to get the scanner working... aw, geez!

Here they are. The Glukkon and a Rupture Farms entrance. I think I need to do some more shading on the rupture farms picture though. I decided not to shade the whole of the entrance way and put a dimly lit room there instead. The Glukkon and Slig aren't anyone in particular but when I finished I thought of Arnie & Slig# 7.

@ enchilado: I know what you mean about the Glukkon bodies.

Off to submit these to DA now

Oddey 11-13-2009 04:53 AM

The glukkon isn't too bad, but could use some work here and there, but the Rupture Farms thing is not quite so good. But the slig looks awesome in that light really.

Please note that I'm not trying to come off as rude.

slig# 5719 11-13-2009 08:54 AM

Don't worry, I agree. I'm gonna try to improve them over the weekend.

OddYouko 11-13-2009 09:20 AM

The Slig is very good. Better then mine when I first started drawing Sligs. :)
The Glukkon is good too and the Rupture Farms is ok. ;)

That's good! Improving art and drawing more helps you to get even better! =D

slig# 5719 11-15-2009 11:48 PM

The weekend has gone and I have improved (kind of) the two last pictures. So here they are again: The Glukkon and Rupture Farms .

I was hoping to put some more pictures on but I haven't finished any yet :fuzsad:.

T-nex 11-16-2009 03:13 AM

Meh.. it's really not that bad :p Although I think you should continue drawing, because I feel like you lack a tiny bit of style and composition... Also if you could practice anatomy a bit.. I feel like you already have a good basic style going on, but expanding on it would do wonders for you :)

Absolutely agree.

@slig
Just improve your skills like T-nex said. I want to see artworks from you soon

Maybe a advice:
My friend was drawing like 6 years on paper, wood, etc and then he started using that "Drawing tablet" for computer (or something) with combination of some software. It was definitely new experience for him.

I found this video to give you example: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rNx1s-GOoKc

Anatomy here i come :). I have drawn a skeleton from the book Anatomy For The Fantasy Artists by Glenn Fabrey. I kind of drew it too big so it came off the page. Planning on doing some basic skeletons later (next part of the book ;)).

Wow, I put it on DA and within 5 miniutes it's been faved :)

My sister has a Wacom graphics tablet connected to the computer :). Although i've only used it once.

EDIT:
Forgot to mention that since these pictures aren't oddworld related I will probably make a thread in non-oddworld art and literature.

Oddey 11-17-2009 04:15 AM

Kind of a small head I think... But otherwise it looks accurate... To my knowledge anyway.

abe is now! 11-17-2009 05:46 AM

Nice pics, keep them up!

Schnappi 11-17-2009 06:42 AM

Yup, skull is little small compared to rest of the body. But I think you can fix it easly...

Crashpunk 11-18-2009 10:23 AM

I thought that was a very random name for a thread but then i realised it was just your Username!

Anyway Nice art!

T-nex 11-18-2009 11:08 AM

actually, you can also learn anatomy, by looking at a human, animal or whatever and quickly draw the shapes you see.. Don't think too much about it, just draw the head in proportion to the body, the feet and so on. The thing about anatomy is you wont ever get it right on the first try... I'm really trying to learn anatomy properly too, and what I do is look at magazines, try to draw the people(mostly fashion magazines because they often have very high quality pics). I also look at pics online... Also Try to find a good image of a skull, and draw it multiple time, or if you can, get hold of a science anatomy book and take it from there.

Of course... This is all serious stuff :p May not be as fun as drawing random stuff, but I guarantee that once you got anatomy right, you'll be a much happier person, because your drawing will suddenly look so much more real and dynamic. :)

slig# 5719 02-10-2010 11:49 PM

A redraw of the other Slig picture, but much better :D

enchilado 02-11-2010 01:22 AM

Nice sligs, buddy! Keep them coming, and nice job, keep up the good work, and so on. Whatever there is to say.

AlexFili 02-11-2010 01:28 AM

Very nice

slig# 5719 03-03-2010 01:15 PM

OMG it's not a redraw!?

This time I've drawn a Vykker. I really need to get a lot more drawing done if I stand a chance of entering that art competition.

enchilado 03-03-2010 11:27 PM

That's one cool vykker, dude!

slig# 5719 03-18-2010 02:34 PM

I would like to again thank everyone for the comments, so, thank you :D

Also I have a new picture... A corner :p

11378

thinking over it now it may be a bit too... tidy.

Gwan-Thwei 03-18-2010 02:45 PM

Lol, a corner.
Anyway, I like the pics very muchley. Keep up the good work!

slig# 5719 04-14-2010 03:13 PM

I have started getting into digital artyness and as such a Slig has been coloured.

11456

OddYouko 04-14-2010 08:01 PM

Ah, you're improving rather nicely. :)

Very nice Slig. Keep it up!

slig# 5719 05-24-2010 04:43 AM

With the art competition judged I guess it's time to load up my entry with a couple of extras...

The first you'll know since it's the entry :p

11558

I coloured the entry in but I didn't start it until after the competition closed. I thought I wouldn't get it coloured in time so I left it until later, foolish me since It took about 10-20 minutes.

11556

And finally a couple of practises/ideas I drew up before the actual entry

11555

11557

The full Vykker in the last one is the same one as in the drawing I posted earlier
