Delete account?

Can someone delete my account on here for me.. I signed up like 6 years ago and keep getting birthday emails through.. best off it being deleted rather than me just changing email so i dont get em eh?
thanks

Uhhhh... that should have been posted in W&B, or a PM to an admin.

*moves*

As a rule, we don't delete accounts. Alcar might have some way of turning off birthday emails though.

Leto 10-14-2009 08:04 PM

that's a hilariously petty concern

Alcar 10-14-2009 09:09 PM

Change your email address if it bothers you that much, as we don't delete accounts.

Alcar...

Wil 10-15-2009 12:20 AM

Or, even better, I'll change your email address on the system.

EDIT: I'm going to guess that someone's already done it. And just not said. Thanks. I enjoyed running in your footprints. Y'jerk.

An alternative option could be to become an active member.

Know how to use an email filter?

Obviously not.

T-nex 10-15-2009 05:08 AM

wow... You got a total of 6 emails from OWF... O_O Must be terrible.

Josh 10-15-2009 06:44 AM

Getting birthday emails are the worst. Ugh, I feel your pain.

So, why don't we delete accounts?

Wil 10-15-2009 09:07 AM

Same reason we don't delete anything. What to members looks like deletion is often just hiding. It's still all on the system.

So, why don't we delete accounts?

The admins are creating personal profiles on all of us, so should we ever gain access to the secret part of the forum, they can track us down and kill us.

Don't click the 'l' in 'Oddworld Forums' on the Oddworld Help forum. Seriously.

Nate 10-15-2009 04:08 PM

Also, because deleting an account will also delete all that member's posts. And we don't like it when threads lose their logical flow.

Makes sense.

Phylum 10-16-2009 12:13 AM

Wouldn't if your account was deleted :p

Splat 10-16-2009 02:46 AM

Phylum, your comment really didn't make any sense whatsoever.

Nate 10-16-2009 02:59 AM

I think his point was that forum discussions would not make any sense if your account was deleted.

Splat 10-16-2009 06:09 AM

Ohhhhh, I'm with you now. Sorry.

Leto 10-22-2009 11:19 PM

I completely get what you guys are saying, and I fully agree with you, but the dudes got like 2 posts. It's not like discussions would lack continuity without his 2 posts.

Nate 10-22-2009 11:41 PM

True, but we've got to be consistent with these sorts of things.

Holy shit, if I had a dollar for every time I've used the word 'consistent' (or 'consistency' or 'inconsistent') in the last week, I'd have a mint. Damn shitty assignment marking.

sam250 10-27-2009 09:02 AM

No need to be consistent. It's only fair to review a situation on an individual basis, and personally I think it's only fair to allow people control over their own accounts. There's no need to delete every post, I'm sure; on other forum's their posts remain but the name's attached to that post changes to "deleted user", or whatever.

Wil 10-27-2009 09:14 AM

If the account was attached to personal details I'd agree, but since accounts here are basically just vessels for consistent accountability of messaging no such attachment is made. We're each just a username. Retroactively anonymizing authors leads to confusion. In brad's case, with his post count of two, this confusion will barely register, if it does at all. Nonetheless, since his account is no longer linked to him via his real email address, it can scarcely be called his account.
