Oddworld Drawing Tutorials?
I was wondering if there were any tutorials (official or otherwise) for drawing different Oddworld creatures/characters, so I went looking, searching in the Oddworld Discussion and Fan Corner forums (and even did a Google search), but I couldn't find anything.
So assuming I didn't screw up and miss an already existing topic, would anyone be interested in some Oddworld drawing tutorials? The attachment shows a little preview of what part of a tutorial would look like. (Posting this in Oddworld Discussion because it doesn't seem to fit in Fan Corner; if the mods think otherwise then feel free to move this.) |
Whoa, that's really good quality! *Is impressed*
If you can keep up that quality then this could be a good idea. |
Mudokons and Sligs would be highly appreciated :D
Good work so far! |

Any other requests? I'll probably focus on the most asked-for first. |
Maybe a brief tutorial for the extra Slig forms?
Glukkons are pretty easy to make. |
I like this idea so much that if you get some stuff finished, I'll add your thread to the 'links' sticky!

10806 Funny thing is, I never really noticed before that their middle fingers are shorter than the others. Ah well. And glukkons really shouldn't be that difficult, I'll probably get those done fairly soon. :
Anyway, I was thinking about doing one, maybe two creatures per day, and getting all the rough sketches done for all the different Oddworld creatures before moving on to creating a full tutorial. That way, I won't get swamped with work, and people won't have to wait for an age for a single tutorial - if they really need one, there'll be a simple reference already available. Thoughts? |
Wow that's really ace dude, So I got an idea, don't know if you're behind it but I'm just saying.
We have a lot of talented guys on here (including you :)), that could really use like your drawings but from the front, side and top, It could be used for modeling, animation, drawing, flash stuff, anything :). Anyway, even those things you draw now, are really good and I like them :) Keep up the good work. |

Anyway, I'd be happy to do front, side and top perspectives. They'll probably be featured in the final tutorials. |
brilliant thread mate.
and i'll tell you what would be interesting for me, a slog. when you have the time, that is. |

Daily update #1: Mudokon preliminary sketch done.
10809 I was thinking of going through different species in order of their appearance, i.e. sketching all creatures that appear in Abe's Oddysee first, then moving to Exoddus, and so on. |
I love these. Thanks for making the Slig so quickly.
I guess people will want Interns and Vykkers too :) (Along with Paramites, Scrabs, Fleeches, etc etc) |
:
Unlike a lot of the wildlife creatures; finding references for them is a pain, which is why there'll be no update today - I've been trying to get at least two reference pictures for each and every Oddworld creature to appear in a game. I think I'm sorted, but I'll double-check before I relax. Oh, and once I've got a decent amount of sketches done, I'll edit the OP to include a list of creatures with links to their respective sketches (and tutorials once they're done). |
Thanks. I hope you stay here for a long time :D
|
Great work dude :) Looking forward to your next one :d

10813 10814 Because Elum have ridiculous legs and arms, making it difficult to sketch their structure properly; and there's no actual good quality render of a glukkon without a suit, or for that matter from any angle except the front. I had to guess at a lot of their body. Well, anyway, I have two creatures left from Abe's Oddysee: Paramites and Scrabs. I'll let you guys choose which one I should do first. |
Okay, since nobody replied, I'll just upload both the scrab and paramite sketches together.
10832 10833 And that clears up all creatures from AO, except one: Shrykull. I'm going to ignore that for now, since I can only find one good reference picture. If anybody knows about another decent reference I could use (such as the render shown in this image, without all the other unnecessary stuff), please let me know. Anyway, there's only three creatures seen in AE that aren't in AO: fleeches, greeters and slurgs. Since they're all fairly simple, I'll get them all uploaded together tomorrow. |
these are awesome, the glukkon one is very cool, i dont think anyones shown how they stand in their suit so clearly
|
How about one of Abe riding Elum?
|
Sorry about posting these later than I said I would, I got dragged along to visit relatives yesterday and was tired when I got back.

10840 I thought it'd be better if I didn't sketch the whole thing (since there's already sketches of mudokons and elum available), so I just focused on Abe's posture while sitting. The fact that his arm covers up his pelvis is kind of annoying, as that's the most important bit. |
Thanks! This is very useful for me because i kinda suck at drawing :)
|
Well that was dumb, why post on a year old thread, especially if this is the only post your going to make
|
Scraptrapman, after writing a post, wait a few hours, then read it again. When you realise how stupid it is, delete it and start again. This was his second post, and that was unnecessarily harsh.
Allow me to put it differently. Scrabby, please check the date of the thread you're about to post in. If you view OddHunters profile, he last logged in this month, so you could send him a PM to compliment him on his work. |
It's good that Scrabby did it. I found very good references images for Oddwordl characters :)
|
Oh guys im really sorry i forgot that.
|
Sorry Scrabby
|
Actually chaps, this thread is linked to in the 'Helpful Fancorner Links' sticky (check it out!), and I'm fairly sure I said it was ok to necromance any thread linked to from there.
So scrabby wins. :p (But thanks for trying, Phylum) |
Actually, these are really good.
|
If Oddhunter can read this, Can you do a Meech? I know that there's only one good picture...
