Having more than 5 blogs on the "recent blogs" section
I know this issue may have come up before, but I just thought I'd get everyone's opinions.
Personally, I think that people post blogs a lot... which means the blogs go on a fast rota which means that some blogs are left unread or barely commented. It would be nice to have a larger section for recent blogs (although technically this IS available in a seperate page). Note: I realise this may not be possible with the current forum settings, but think we should get everyone's opinions regardless. |
It's a vBulletin setting. We have no control over the number of blogs that display.
Alcar: Will this be fixed if we/you upgrade to 3.8? |
The next upgrade I do will be to vBulletin 4. There will be rather large changes; so I'd prefer not to do anything in the interim given that it'll all be wiped clean.
Alcar... |
How long 'till v4?
|
I’m going to start enforcing a No Multiple Blogging rule. This should end ambushes of two or three consecutive blog entries by the same user. Also, no more recursive blogging (i.e. blogging about another blog/blogger), and no blogging something that should obviously go in an existing forum.

YEAH.
Tell em Max. |

Well, there are blatant infractions like posting art. I think for more serious topics like controversial issues or anything that's likely to stimulate serious discussion could be let off with a warning.

Yes... but where does the line go? . |
In the dirt.
|
I think people could honestly live with two blogs per week.
|
I think people could live with no blogs at all. That doesn't mean that it makes sense to take them away.
How about this: Do everyone the same courtesy that we already do in threads. Don't double post. No posting more than one blog in a row. |
Unless they're days apart.
|
Nexy, there is no line. We've never used lines when determining what's "worthy". It's always subjective, because it needs to be in a small community with an evolving atmosphere. I think most people should be able to tell whether what they're posting is meant to provoke discussion, or just be available for people to comment on.

The main problem I see is that a lot of these "blogs" just point to a single youTube video. Does that really match the definition of 'blog'? (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blog)
If you wanted to just post a youtube link, why not do it on the off-topic forum? |
Where in Off-Topic? An entire thread devoted to a video is worse than just a blog entry. At least if the only content of a blog entry is a video, then the blogger would like people to look at that video and comment. Not that they're my favourite kind of blog.
|
By posting a video link, you're getting people to check it out and comment on it with their own points of view. In my opinion it would be more like something you'd post in the Off-Topic forum, such as; "What's your view on XYZ" or "What do you think of news story XYZ".
To give an example, Strike Witch has posted three blogs in a row. Why not just make one Blog instead of splitting it up like that? EDIT: Thanks Max. I appreciate it's not easy being an impartial admin. Apologies if I sound like I'm whining too much. |
I'm going to go with Voltaire on this one, if people want to use blogs like idiots then the consequences should be on a purely social level.
Unless of course they recklessly break forum rules, at which point we feed them to the lesbians. |
We only have one lesbian and she's one of the ones Voltaire was talking about.
|
Then we watch the lesbian eat herself, everyone wins.
|
I really didn't need that mental image. Thanks.
|
I say that we stop using people's real life names, and just use the ones that they made for the forum. It's kind of an annoying way of saying "Hey, I know this guy. No, no. I really know this guy". Also, I don't who you are talking about half the time.
Edit: As you can see, I'm still cold. |
Voltaire was a philosopher.

Oh, come on! His name could have easily been Voltaire, and you didn't explain yourself at all!.........Goddamnit. Now I look stupid.

OANST just got OWNED! :)
(Sorry, it just had to be said). |
