Oddworld (AE 0r AO) game sounds ?

Hi Makaku,

No!

No problem.

Heh, can you imagine...

No, I think someone had the GameSpeak on Mp3 somewhere in the Fan Corner.

The game sounds are not easily extracted from the games, and I'm not sure someone around here has done it, sorry.

Are they not all already in wav format in sounds.dat?

Wil 09-24-2009 02:01 PM

I know they have been ripped, because they were used in Aji's MMOSG. Properly ripped, not just recorded. They exist sequentially in one long sound file, if I remember correctly. Can't remember where you can find that, but maybe I'm ringing a bell for someone who can.

What's/Where's sounds.dat ?

AlexFili 09-24-2009 11:51 PM

There are indeed gamespeak copies out there with echo.

So no one got any AE sounds from sounds.dat?

Fuzzle Guy 09-26-2009 04:43 PM

When working on Aji's MMOSG, I just moved the sounds.dat into Audacity then output it as a wav.

It's an easy way of doing it. As far as I'm aware it doesn't lose any quality (providing you output it as a high quality sound file) and contains all the sounds from the game.

Software Bug 09-26-2009 11:54 PM

Does that really work? Because then it will just be cutting them all up :)

Edit: I'm getting it into Audacity but then I am left with a minute of sound which is all way to high pitched. Don't think that minute is all the sounds there are? :p

AlexFili 09-27-2009 01:02 AM

Audacity is fantastic. You can lower pitch and change tempo easily in it.

Fuzzle Guy 09-27-2009 01:22 AM

Yep, that minute is all the sounds. It's high pitched because it's sped up. Slowing it down will take it to about 3 minutes (I can't remember exactly what speed you need to set it to) and it does contain all the sounds.

Thanks for the link :) There are a lot of sounds but not all ...

Makaku 09-28-2009 06:32 AM

Someone can tell me where find sounds.dat file pls ? I've AE and AO on PC (englesh version) and on PSX (italian verison) but can't find it !!

Xavier 09-29-2009 03:11 AM

Please don't double post, use the edit button instead.

Paul 09-29-2009 03:09 PM

Hmm if sounds.dat is just different khz wave's all thrown together then it shouldn't be too hard to read it properly I think..

joshkrz 10-01-2009 02:19 PM

I managed to get a lot of sounds from AE but changing them all back into the proper WAV with the correct khz was a nightmare. I got mine from the PS1 version using "Game Extractor".
