Christians having sex.

Teen birth rates highest in most religious states

Discuss. Is anyone surprised by this?

Sekto Springs 09-17-2009 06:28 PM

So people who shouldn't breed are breeding twice as much as the rest of us?

Nope, can't say I'm surprised.

I can't help but read this as "Hurp durp religians is stoopid im so edgy ah gurp flurp."

Help me out, am I reading it wrong, or are you saying that Christians shouldn't have children because they're Christians?

Strike Witch 09-17-2009 06:54 PM

Pics or it didn't-

And then I remembered the family that had tons of kids.

No pics, please.

Nate you are a mod. You should know better than to ask for a flame war.

He's not. It's an interesting article. It's fucktards who spout 'Anti Christianity' that are asking for a flame war.

Anonyman! 09-17-2009 07:38 PM

When people say "christian" in a derogatory manner here, they typically mean Southern Baptist. You know.

at least that is how i see it

Mac Sirloin 09-17-2009 07:46 PM

Then they should say Southern Baptist, or they look like inept fucktards trying to be clever.

Sekto Springs 09-17-2009 07:47 PM

Kastere caught onto my little scheme so early. The force is strong with him.
And no, I'm not saying Christians shouldn't breed because they're Christian, I'm saying they shouldn't breed because they're idiots.

Mac Sirloin 09-17-2009 07:50 PM

I've noticed you making these little quips using the word 'Christians' a bit too broadly. It got on my nerves.

Southern Baptist Christians or Christians in general? See, you're not making conclusive arguments, you're saying "Christians are stupid." without explaining further then acting like it holds some bearing beyond "I think ragging on religious people makes me cool."

Sekto Springs 09-17-2009 07:51 PM

Are you Christian Kastere?

Mac Sirloin 09-17-2009 07:58 PM

No, I'm Catholic, but since a lot of Christian beliefs are essentially repackaged Catholic beliefs, I'm entitled to get pissy when people say that many of my Values are 'stupid.'

Josh 09-17-2009 10:36 PM

The whole no sex thing is good for teens. But patrnts need to tell them what will happen is they have unprotected sex, since they do it anyway.
'Now Zeke, if you don't put on a condom, the devil will posses your seeds and make a devil-child grow inside of the girl'

If they are Catholic, of course careless teens are going to have babies flying out of them. One of the wonders of life...

And I thought it would be Havoc posting something sweeping and generally stupid in this topic concerning persons of a religious group. Not every Christian is a hic from Alabama, bud.

T-nex 09-18-2009 12:29 AM

Oh come on... You all knew this would result in a religious/anti-religious debate.

Anyway that this would come from Chris, in such a blunt way disappoints me <.<
Plenty of christians are both smart, nice and can think logically, and I know a handful of those.

About the article, I do think that it's because that for christians, abortion is a sin, and also they discourage contraption. Which mixed together will end up in teen pregnancies, because no matter how christians you, teens will always be teens. And teens fuck... Or the majority of them do.
That's my guess.

I've been in Catholic education all my life and the rate of teen pregnancies was higher in our school than in any other school in our county, although this might have something to do with the fact that the encatchment area was by and large the poorest demographic in the county, council estates and shiz.

The drug related offense rate, however, was the lowest. The rich kids' school beat us royally on that one.

Mac Sirloin 09-18-2009 03:45 AM

See, my school, while still chock full of really, really stupid people (Like, jump in and out of Traffic stupid) doesn't have any of that.
In all my time (4 years) there, not one Teen Pregnancy. Maybe we're half assing it.

shaman 09-18-2009 04:04 AM

I don't think christian values are stupid, some of them are rather obvious like the ten commandments. But this ... this is just plain, unfiltered hilarity.

EDIT: Correct me if i'm wrong, but i'm certain catholocism is a branch of christianity.

I think you're not much better, and flaming is retarded.

Anyways. Christian values aren't stupid... They are just... overly moral for my taste. I think there's a point when morals actually get in people's way. If the increased teen pregnancies truly are caused because of their religion, maybe they should relax a little. Or at least discourage teens from having sex, instead of having unprotected sex. But then again, both are sort of equally bad in my mind.

Havoc 09-18-2009 05:06 AM

It's all god's will. God does not want you to use condoms. Jesus used condoms and look at what happened to him. You don't want to be like Jesus do you?

The drugs thing is indeed interesting. I went to a private school that had no teen pregnancy issues but had 1 or 2 guys related to drug issues. A much posher private school about a town away was uttterly rife with drug problems. Speculation is/was that a lot of the kids' parents made their money from drugs, thus perpetuating an endless cycle.

You can't stop teens from having sex, the most you can do is make sure they're properly educated and have at least some sembalance of knowing what they're doing, hence the overly preachy sex-ed.

Oddey 09-18-2009 05:35 AM

I am actually surprised. I have very little of an opinion on this.

OANST 09-18-2009 07:15 AM

I have to say that hearing religious people use the word "values" irritates me to no end. Do they think that they want something different from the rest of us? Do they think that our lack of belief in an invisible creature who defies all logic makes us incapable of understanding ethics, or living ethical lives? Because if I were to compare the percentages of ethical/non-ethical atheists that I know vs. the ethical/non-ethical religious folks that I know, well.....the atheists win in a fucking landslide. The reason for this is obvious. The more you tell someone that they shouldn't do something, the more they want to do it (see me posting in Splat's threads). And since religion tells us that damn near everything that is not intended as praise to your lord is wasteful and wrong, it blurs the lines of wrong and right.

In conclusion: We all want the same things. Life, love, and peace. The sooner that the religious realize that this is all that the non-religious want, the happier we will all be. I mean, seriously. We are not trying to take your traditions from you (which by the way, is what you mean by values). We aren't going to eat your children, or convert them to Satan. Just let us live our lives.

used:) 09-18-2009 07:36 AM

My church monkey friend once asked, as an atheist, where I get my morals since I don't go to church. In his opinion, if he was godless, he would be out killing people. Says a lot, huh? Anyway, "values" are subjective, but things like murder, betrayel, and violence are generally found on the "don't do" list of almost any institution. People are people. We all have the same basic blue print and will generally act based on the dictum of society and our consciouses. Religion has nothing to do with it. As Albert Einstein once said: "A man's ethical behavior should be based effectually on sympathy, education, and social ties; no religious basis is necessary. Man would indeed be in a poor way if he had to be restrained by fear of punishment and hope of reward after death."

MeechMunchie 09-18-2009 08:35 AM

Half the Bible has been sorely misinterpreted, anyway (IMO). By the way Kastere, for a Catholic you seem surprisingly comfortable in a forum full of people discussing what they would do to each other homosexually. Or are you an atheist Catholic like Dara O' Brian?
