ANATOMY of CREATURES in ODDWORLD!

So anyone got any idea of the physical anatomy of ANY creatures in oddworld. If so, how about Sligs and Glukkons?

Post your answers and preferably picture links! :fuzcool:

Grandi 09-06-2009 09:35 AM

I believe that the anatomy of mudokons is related to the anatomy of humans.

MeechMunchie 09-06-2009 12:20 PM

It's all in development sketches, I recommend the Art of Oddworld book.

Quoted for truth. And any way mudokons evolved from birds I believe.

Mudokons are the most like us in terms of anatomy. Then the Clakkers/Wolvarks, Stranger (with his legs hidden), then Sligs and Interns

PalezQkkeli 09-07-2009 01:36 AM

So Sligs do live in nature? And Glukkons don't have any arms?

Kevin 09-07-2009 01:52 AM

Glukkons walk on their arms, their feat are very small and limp.

PalezQkkeli 09-07-2009 05:16 AM

So It's the other way around eh. Funny how the game designers got them to look like big name executives with their high shoulders etc :D

When i first played AO i used to think Glukkons just didn't have any arms as they never did any labour.

That's exactly what I thought. But when I saw Molluck fry (as seen HERE), I got a hint of what's actually happening..

To answer your question, there is not likely any sligs living in the wilderness - at least not on Mudos. All sligs are birthed from one Queen, Skillya, who currently resides among the Industrialists lavished in riches. Oddworld is huge though, and if there is indeed another slig queen out there its possible they are based in nature if they happen to reside in an area untouched by Glukkon expansion.

Before sligs became industrialized, they were swamp-dwelling creatures. You could compare their lifestyle to that of a crayfish or slug. As to how the Glukkons happened upon them and developed the relationship they have now, I think that detail has been omitted.

I believe someone mentoned there's more than one Slig queen beig held in captivity. Same with Glukkons. Sligs, even at the time of games, have an inherent, loving nature, but that's snuffed out of them soon after they're born.

Sekto Springs 09-07-2009 08:58 AM

Yeah. By nature sligs are friendly and caring, but its thoroughly beaten out of their heads and replaced with a love of firepower and violence. In this sense, Sligs always reminded me of that one group of kids in highschool that cut class to smoke, torture small animals, and play violent video games; you can't help but wonder what they would be like if they were raised differently.

Wil 09-07-2009 11:12 AM

There is more than one queen producing Sligs. They're not held in captivity, they run competing security companies.

So what's Slig Barracks for then?

AlexFili 09-07-2009 01:14 PM

I like that idea about the rival companies, that would make a good game. It would be unlikely that every single Slig has a job as a security guard. If Skillya dies, the Slig race is screwed (if indeed she is the only queen).

Your concept of individuality must be altered when considering a species based around few reproductive queens who, unlike with eusocial insects, also make actual decisions regarding the lives of her offspring.

Wil 09-07-2009 02:03 PM

According to the art book, Dripik built the Barracks to make himself feel powerful and important (and well-protected). But his medals are awards for making profit, not winning war, which the Barracks have never been involved in. So I presume it makes money from Glukkons sending their security employees off to receive training. After all, they aren't trained prior to their employment.

Sekto Springs 09-07-2009 05:14 PM

Dripik was most likely just another Glukkon who climbed his way up the corporate ladder and used the money he made to carve out a little niche. Funny to think he could be such a crafty businessmen, since he comes off as being generally retarded.

Bullet Magnet 09-08-2009 09:54 AM

I've known elderly folk to become incredibly senile without losing their professional skills.

AlexFili 09-09-2009 12:37 AM

It's also unlikely that Slig Barracks is the only place to recruit Sligs, as they appear in abundance in MO (along with Big Bros).

"After all, they aren't trained prior to their employment."
-There is a training area in Slig Barracks, just look at the mudokon targets with bullet holes :D

Wil 09-09-2009 05:02 AM

Yeah, but Sligs aren't necessarily recruited from the Slig Barracks. They're leased out to factories pretty much at birth.

PalezQkkeli 09-09-2009 07:14 AM

Btw why does Skillya give her Sligs away? Why doesn't she recruit an army of her own or something? Enlighten me oh great ones :D!

Bullet Magnet 09-09-2009 01:14 PM

Sligs are no military force. We haven't even seen a military force yet.

Wil 09-09-2009 01:59 PM

Well, she doesn't give them away. Skillya and the other Slig queens lease them out: they get paid. If she kept them for herself, she wouldn't get any Moolah, and what would be the point in that? Besides, birthing them is so painful for the Slig queens that they hate their children.

Perhaps not in-game, but I wouldn't be able to describe the Slig Air Corps as anything other than military.
