Phantom Radio

My work computer has decided to randomly start playing what sounds like internet radio stations. It does this all the fucking time. Before it starts I will hear a clicking sound (as if I were clicking a link), and then a few seconds later it starts up. After a while it will stop again. Help. It's annoying.

Sekto Springs 08-27-2009 01:40 PM

I share your lament, Mat. I get the same shit on mine from time to time.
My first thoughts were that it was some pop-up my eye did not catch, or a built-in advertisement being played through one of my programs. Upon inspection, I found no such things.

Computer ghosts.

I remember I did something once that seemed to shut it up. Cannot recall what. TO GOOGLE! *zoom*

Edit: Possible solutions...

Thanks. It seems like those people are as perplexed as I am, though.

Once I logged onto my mum's work colleagues PC and it started making a weird chanting noise. Turned out it was an indian thing to remind the computer user to start praying. It really surprised me.

Never heard of this before :s. Sound like either adware or a faulty auto-connect setting in a media player.

Hammer + Computer = Fix'd.

Try Ctrl Alt Dlt, turn it off an on again, clean the gunk out of the mouse.

Try Ctrl Alt Dlt

That looks wrong, I don't know why, it just does.

I think it is, but I feel like I've seen a delete key with that on it.

Wings of Fire 08-27-2009 06:01 PM

For consistency it should work, judging by the other two, but I just don't know man.

I just don't know anymore.

This happens whenever I try to make a reference to Futurama...

I should have known Pilot would come in here, whip out his big, computer-technical dick and jizz all over this discussion.

"Computer-technical" meaning "Sexy".
"Discussion" meaning "My face".

Get some sort of spyware software and do a scan. Also antivirus. I tend to find AVG does better than most self-described spyware programs at finding shit that's going wrong.

Phantom Radio would be a great name for a radio station.

Are your speakers wireless? Maybe they are picking up signals in the airwaves.
Or maybe it's a new kind of Trojan-esque super-virus? The first thing is more likely.

Sekto Springs 08-28-2009 01:07 AM

I think it's a radio station already. First thing that came up in my Google search was a station by the same name.

Josh 08-28-2009 01:12 AM

Is it one of those hard rock teen angst stations?

Either that, or it's easy listening for old people nearing their timely demise.
Or perhaps it's just creepy organ music.

Phantom Radio - All organ, ALL THE TIME.

I love Kill God. Best SH track ever. Period.
Gabe, did I mention I did my own rendition of it? I guess I didn't considering I haven't been on AIM in forever.

Wil 08-28-2009 01:18 PM

I would recommend checking what processes are running if you haven't already. Google anything that looks suspicious. Or stop anything that's auto-starting from auto-starting, one at a time.

Also, have you seen a lady in a white dress with a frilly white parasol in odd places recently?

OANST 08-29-2009 06:18 AM

Why does she keep staring at me?

MeechMunchie 08-29-2009 06:29 AM

Because you forgot to put any trousers on this morning.
