Me completing The Boardroom in record time!

Take a look at this video that I made a few months ago. It is me completing 'The Boardroom' in a very fast time.:)

Abe's Oddysee: The Boardroom, RuptureFarms in 31 seconds (No Commentary)

Before anyone accuses me, this is on the PS1 version and I DIDN'T cheat!

Can anyone beat my time?...;)

Grandi 08-03-2009 06:38 AM

Great run. I didn't even know it's possible to jump to the 2nd lever that way. Still, in my opinion you should have saved the last mudokon. You really walked through the Boardroom, but you didn't actually finish it (I know many disagrees this one). Second thing I disliked was that the quality was damn low. But that's not actually your fault as PS1-gaming is a bit difficult to record well.

By the way, have you tried the ending of Abe's Exoddus?

Banner King 08-03-2009 08:42 AM

Very nice. I think it might be possible to do it faster if you pass the saws quicker, and hop more, instead of walking. Oh, and I did try speedrunning the Abe's Exoddus ending several times, but I don't remember how long it took me. Another interesting thig I tried in the Abe's Exoddus boiler is waiting until the time is up, and found out that the brewery doesn't explode, but there is toxic gas just like in the other factories. I guess the developers didn't expect someone to actually try and wait.

I also tried speedrunning the board room, but it is much easier than the boiler in Abe's Exoddus, so you can't do much to do it faster. Trying to speedrun the mines ender would be a complete waste of time of course, since it is so straightforward. What I was interested in is speedrunning the other enders, the ones without a timer. Scrabania and Paramonia enders, like the board room, don't have much that you can use to get a faster time. The Mudanchee and Mudomo final trials do, though. I enjoyed speedrunning those multiple times, and I still do it sometimes, to increase my time. I always look for shortcuts in those kinds of endings. And then there are the executive offices. These have lots of ways to get a faster time. Has anyone tried jumping over slogs as Phleg yet? It is hard for me, but maybe some people here have been fans for much longer than me, and know more shortcuts. Another thing I also enjoyed doing is setting of the timers in Dripik and Aslik's offices. And using the invincibility cheat. So all the screens are green. Now there's just one question I would like to ask: is it possible to get out of these offices AND set off the timer? I would very much like to try that.

Jango 08-03-2009 10:32 AM

Yes, I have done Abe's Exodus ending. I don't think it is as good as The Boardroom though. The Abe's Exodus ending in my opionion is just another Zulag but with a timer on it. I also find it too long to do a speedrun of. Also, technically I didn't need to save the last mudokon because it was still completed when I pulled the Gas Shutoff. ;)

Banner King, I like your opinion of the endings. I find the invincibility cheat fun aswell, but I didn't know it could save you from gas! :p

Please can someone tell me how to record things on the computer having high quality and without using an expensive camera? I was thinking of making a video about No Clipping on the PC version of Abe's Oddysee. :)

Xavier 08-03-2009 10:35 AM

Impressive run, I'm not sure you could shave 1 second of that record...

Crashpunk 08-03-2009 11:15 AM

Are you sure it a record? its still brillently fast

but there is toxic gas just like in the other factories. I guess the developers didn't expect someone to actually try and wait.

Speaking of that toxic gas I find the noises Abe make when he inhales that stuff to be hillarious. Back on subject then. That was a nice run, but you could have saved that mudoken and still made it in time if you run and hop a little more.

Wings of Fire 08-03-2009 09:09 PM

Then it wouldn't have been a speed run, dear.

AlexFili 08-03-2009 10:38 PM

Well done. I admire anyone who attempts a speedrun in one of the hardest videogames ever!

In fact, Oddworld: Abe's Oddysee isn't hard at all. Have you ever tried I wanna be the guy?

Sekto Springs 08-04-2009 11:46 AM

I agree with Grandi. AO isn't all that difficult. The gameplay is pretty straight forward and there weren't many "rip your hair out" moments like in some games of the same era. The first Rayman for example, now that was maddening at some points. The slippery platforms in the Band-Land level, god, you could go through twenty lives just trying to get that right.

MA 08-04-2009 12:05 PM

dont talk to me about the first Rayman.

i remember trying to get past the Bandland level for my little step sister. GOD. i actually had fantasies about torturing Rayman afterwards.

Kareel 08-04-2009 02:38 PM

Bandland, that brings back bad memories. I was on the verge of breaking the disc at that point, and come to think of it I never did get past that area.

Sekto Springs 08-04-2009 04:55 PM

Band Land is actually an easy level to a true Rayman fanatic like myself. Some of the levels in Picture City, or god forbid, The Blue Mountains were more prone to chip away at your sanity.

Wings of Fire 08-04-2009 04:59 PM

You guys should all follow Grandi's advice and play I Wanna Be The Guy, Rayman (God forbid) has nothing on that.

Jango 08-05-2009 04:26 AM

Thank you all for your appriciation :)

Would you stop talking about Rayman, I need someone to answer my question above...

MA 08-05-2009 10:20 AM

you know Rayman?

god i love Rayman.

Jango 08-05-2009 12:33 PM

Yes, I know Rayman...

I just would like someone to answer my question as Rayman is nothing to do with the thread.

Sekto Springs 08-05-2009 02:01 PM

I'm sure there are plenty of people that can beat your time, but I doubt any of them would be arsed to record it and upload it. I'm not actually sure how many people here still even play Oddworld, it's so 90's. Get with the times, dude. We only pretend to like Oddworld to get girls.

or something.

Jango 08-06-2009 09:21 AM

Why did you say that? Are you jealous or something because I can do The Boardroom faster then you?...

If you can do it faster than me, record yourself to prove it! :p

MA 08-06-2009 09:25 AM

never said it before, Jango, seeing as i don't use this modern day internet slang, but i'll make an exception.

FAIL

Jango 08-06-2009 09:33 AM

Why? Why don't you like my video and why does it fail?

Don't say it fails because of the quality...

MA 08-06-2009 09:37 AM

no no no, i dont think your video fails at all. it's good. i watched it. i meant your 'challenge' for Sekto Springs to make a better video failed. as he pointed out, some people can't be arsed to do it.

argh, it doesn't matter. you're no fun to troll.

EDIT: i feel guilty now.

Jango 08-06-2009 11:07 AM

Ah ok, no problem

MA 08-06-2009 11:08 AM

don't worry. i was being dickish.

EDIT: i failed myself. oh the irony.

Xavier 08-07-2009 07:19 AM
