Oddworlds Star position

I wonder were oddworld could be in our galxy or another, like its not real but it would be cool just to make something up.

Xavier 07-02-2009 10:21 AM

Lorne once said it wasn't set in our universe, so I doubt we are able to pinpoint it's location in space.

Wil 07-02-2009 10:43 AM

Well Tuvok, I’ve been looking very carefully at the stars we see in the Stockyards, and I have worked out that Oddworld is actually the middle ‘star’ of Orion’s belt!

OANST 07-02-2009 10:50 AM

I am Oddworld's greatest star.

Are you kidding? :fuzconf:

Wil 07-02-2009 05:21 PM

No. I actually can extrapolate any point in the universe based on a starscape.

But I have to use my fingers and toes to do the maths.

Mac Sirloin 07-02-2009 07:17 PM

I have to use my fingers and toes to grab things and walk.

Bitch.

Wouldn't finding a Sun with relative size to how big Oddworld is compared to Earth make this piss easy? Christ, people.

Nate 07-02-2009 10:22 PM

What, you think that there's going to be only one star of the approximate size out of the trillions observable from earth?

AlexFili 07-02-2009 10:32 PM

"I have to use my fingers and toes to grab things and walk."
It would be funny if you grabbed things with your toes and walked with your fingers.

Fuzzle Guy 07-03-2009 04:37 AM

It would be funny if we consumed food with our arse holes and shat out of our mouth.

MeechMunchie 07-03-2009 07:38 AM

I'm convinced many of our members already do.

What? Oddworld's sun is clearly a G2V, just like ours. There is no need at all to scale up the size of the star, or even the planet's orbit, with its size. Besides, regardless of whether we're talking about ten solar masses or ten solar radii, we would see a completely different sun from the barren surface of a dead Oddworld.

And like Nate said, it wouldn't stand out anyway, not in a galaxy or universe with stars of these sizes:

Grandi 07-03-2009 05:24 PM

Oddworld's location is inside of Lorne's head.

Crashpunk 07-04-2009 01:57 AM

He must have a big head then, Oddworld is 10 times the size of Earth :P

Who told you that? Just being curious.

That always puzzled me. Wouldn't the gravity of a planet that size make conditions for intellegent life incredibly hostile?

Fuzzle Guy 07-05-2009 08:38 AM

Not really. It's all they've ever known. They would be built for living on a planet with such heavy gravity. Mudokons may be weak on Oddworld, but if one ever made it to Earth you wouldn't want to get in a fight with one.

Or in a high jump contest with a Fuzzle.

shaman 07-05-2009 08:51 AM

Imagine the effort to do pressups...

Fuzzle Guy 07-05-2009 10:19 AM

But there would be no effort! =D Or, no more effort than we would put into doing press ups on Earth.

Havoc 07-05-2009 02:09 PM

Doesn't gravity increase as the planet gets smaller, not bigger? I'm not sure but I believe a planet 10 times bigger then earth would have less of a gravitational pull then earth.

Fuzzle Guy 07-05-2009 02:41 PM

This would explain Fuzzles incredible skills for jumping without any legs.

Grandi 07-05-2009 05:45 PM

Thank you for the link, Max. I've always wanted to know these things.

What do we know about the size of Oddworld creatures? They might be 10 times smaller than the creatures on Earth...

MeechMunchie 07-05-2009 11:22 PM

A planet of higher mass has stronger gravity. It is it's weight pulling at the universe.

Measurements on oddworld may be far different, 5'8" there could be like 6 Earth inches for all we know...

Fuzzle Guy 07-06-2009 03:08 AM

But this information comes from the same source that tells us Oddworld is ten times the size of Earth, meaning they're using our measurements, not Oddworld's.

Except that the planet may be the same size whilst the creatures are ten times smaller; thus the effect is the same* whilst also explaining some of the macro-fauna and incredibly large vegetation.

* The point being that information and technology spreads ten times slower than on planet Earth.
