I just came across a post that spawned an idea for a serious discussion which hasn't been discussed to great lengths, as far as I know anyway. We've discussed just about any other 'on the edge' topic so why not this one.

What is your stance on incest? Not just the sexual act but also relationships, kids, getting married, you name it.

Two relatives who have a consenting sexual relationship is more common then you would believe, brothers and sisters mostly. Often it's just of a sexual nature but there are actually a lot of related couples out there. I believe some of them even have had children (which I personally think is crossing over the line).

So, thoughts?

Incest=bad. There's no going around it. It's socially stigmatic, genetically impractical, and just generally gross.

Yeah, incest and bestiality are the two issues of sexual liberation where my common sense tends to take a step in front of my liberality.

Incest is wrong, it shouldn't happen, in any circumstance. You'd have to have something seriously wrong with you to actually be sexually attracted to a member of your family. It baffles me. And when they start having kids... no plz.

I think it's wrong. It's unnatural. This is most likely what I am expected to say, but siblings are not supposed to be in love with each other, they are just meant to love each other. I especially think that having children with your sibling is terrible. Obviously, because of the situation, the child would quite likely grow up being disabled, and I think that this is cruel considering that the birth was avoidable. You could argue that every birth is avoidable, but the siblings/other relatives should know what they're doing and thus should avoid having children for the child's sake.

I agree that siblings having kids is taking it too far. However I do think that as long as they aren't hurting anyone else they should be able to do as they please. If that means humping your dad every day then so be it :s.

By any means though, I don't think a sexual relationship with a blood relative should be classed as illegal. Despite it being a moral grey or black area for a lot people.

I agree with those that are pro-incest. You know who you are. So long as it doesn’t result in offspring or develop into a ‘proper’ relationship, a casual, consensual (and perheps please low-key) sexual act between two members of the same family doesn’t seem intrinsically bad.

But I won’t be practising this, thank you very much.

I could be off my nut here, but aren't royal family bloodlines known to inbreed? Aren't there stories of royal families having babby after babby until one is 'acceptable' as an heir, due to the genetic difficulties encountered with inbreeding; killing off the hideously deformed ones?

I vaguely recall there being stories like this; royal families believing they were 'cursed' because of all the hideously deformed children.

Saying relatives shouldn't be able o have sexual relationship is just like saying gays shouldn't be able to have a sexual relationship IMO. If 2 people really love each other I think they should be able to have sex regardless whether they're related.

But just like homosexualism I think incest is disgusting and could never see myself doing it.

Although no matter how much two relatives love each other they shouldn't be able to have children. An inbred child shouldn't have to suffer.

History has many examples of people shacking up with their cousins. It's not illegal and has low risk of genetic problems (increased, of course, if multiple generations keep it in the family).

But the worst kind is unknown incest where 2 people get married or somthing and don't know they are related.

I'm going to have to be persuaded on the side of Maxy/Peter. As long as no-one's being hurt and it's all consensual, if someone wants to have incestuous sex it's really none of my business.

To me it's the same thing as bestiality. However, I wouldn't necessarily be 'up' for it myself and the thought of my family [like Nate] makes me shudder and die a little inside...
