PC Or Playstation?

Which do you enjoy playing Oddworld on more? I grew up with both games on the PC and I just recently bought Odyssey on the Playstation. I found that something I was very good at meant nothing on the Playstation I pretty much had to relearn all the controls. There is something enjoyable about playing the game on a TV screen then a small monitor screen and I personally found it just as enjoyable to play on the Playstation. I'd still have to give my vote to the PC version though, not only was it my first Oddworld experience it's my childhood game.

i'd have to say PC as well. never actually played it on the PC but i suspect the graphics would be better.

Not particularly, its the same and people may even consider it worse since its missing some extra stuff from the Playstation version

Playstation in England is PAL which runs at 24 frames per second, America runs at 30 I think, but PC's regardless of country run at 60 frame per second which is noticeably smoother, that's the only difference. However computers with high screen resolution suffer from blurred images, because the games automatically run at a very small resolution.

I grew up with the Playstation version and I'm glad I did, they were more standard if you know what I mean.

Playstation, its much more easier with a controller. but that's just my opinion, some people probably find it easier with the keyboard.

Although I don't have the PS version I''ll still vote for PC. Wouldn't having AO or AE on a large TV screen be a bit pixley?

joshkrz 06-09-2009 01:23 PM

Like I said, same goes with large PC screens, I remember you saying you had the same resolution as me, so you must have a 22" monitor yes? Don't you find it pixley / blurry?

It looks perfect if you're not sat too close to the television set.

joshkrz 06-09-2009 01:29 PM

Or have HD, everything on normal TV looks crap anyway, never mind old games.

OddjobAbe 06-09-2009 01:32 PM

Actually, it looks horrible and blurry on HD. I've tried it. And I disagree that everything looks "crap" on normal television. It looks fine to me. I never watch something and think "This is good. But it is spoilt by being on normal telly. It would be so much better if there was a little bit more detail right there."

joshkrz 06-09-2009 01:36 PM

Sorry, I didn't explain that well. I meant normal TV channels on HD look crap, they have them artefacts around everything.

Its not a major issue, it just doesn't look as good as it could.

OddjobAbe 06-09-2009 01:37 PM

Precisely why I love and am sticking with my normal T.V.

MeechMunchie 06-09-2009 11:29 PM

I think the PC is best. The keyboard controls just make more sense to me.

I grew up with the PC, but then I finished the PS1 versions quite recently. I've also got an Xbox Original so I can play the original games :D

BlackVenom 06-09-2009 11:49 PM

I'd have to say PC. Even though I grew up with the PlayStation ones and got one hell of a habit playing both the games, I prefer PC even though I got them for PC 2 or 3 years ago.

Grandi 06-10-2009 01:49 AM

Playstation.

With the playstation controller being more compact, I have a much easier time puling off carefully timed stunts and moving on the PS than the PC. Friend lent me the PC version of AE after I misplaced my first PS disc and I spent most of my time trying to remember what button did what.

_oddhead 06-11-2009 03:18 AM

PC, definitely. Control-wise, it's more comfortable with a controller, but only just, and you can always stick a gamepad in there - like a logitech replica of the Playstation joypad, say. It's much smoother on the PC - this is especially true for me, having played the PAL PS versions. Finally, for Abe's Exoddus, quiksave and quikload on the PC are instantaneous - no pausing, no loading.

Still I tie LOL

I just bought AO and AE for the playstation to try them out again. Me and my sister are gonna love two playing our childhood game...and waiting for each other to get killed LOL

joshkrz 06-11-2009 09:50 AM

I hate the two player, they could of done it so you work together instead of in turns.

From the short amount of time we had AO on the playstation me and my sister had a lot of fun with the two player.

I can't believe how hard it is to get the games with their manuals still and AE is really bad about having both discs. Had to buy a new AO just to get a non greatest hits with a manual and had to buy an expensive used AE to get the manual and both discs. It's worth it though, my PC AO no longer works and I haven't played it for years and my PC AE is on the borderline of never working again. It can't play FMVs but it loads the levels fine enough.

joshkrz 06-11-2009 10:00 AM

I have a chipped version of the game, my other discs got scratched up and took forever to load and crashed when you leave the mines.

I suppose that isn't technically illegal if I backed them up and burnt them later is it?

Fuzzle King 06-11-2009 10:19 AM

Im going to say PC as its the only way i can play them now plus the -ddcheat is available for use on it which is fun. I did grow up playing AE on the ps1 though.

AlexFili 06-11-2009 12:02 PM

Before I had my PSP, I would have said PC. Now I just love the slickness of the PSX version. I hate playing it full-res on my pc, it looks really bland.

Laws vary from place to place and I don't know what they're like in the UK but in many countries you're allowed to make a single backup of something that you already own legally.

OddYouko 06-11-2009 06:24 PM

Playstation. ;)
I'm no good at working the keyboard controls. xD;;

When buying a game you're buying a licence to use that game, so I think the answer is yes. You are diffenetly not allowed to sell burnt copies.
