Oddworld Music | Repeating Loops for Low Filesize Projects
Another issue with making games it that it can't be a massive file size. The bigger it gets, the harder it is to distribute. Mainly the cause for massive games are media files. Music, Lossless Bitmaps and Video all add up.
I have decided to take the Music from Abe's Odyssey and Exoddus and turn a section of the music into a loop. This basically means that its shorter without sounding shorter. The end of the music flows directly into the beginning, so it doesn't sound like its repeating. This is perfect for Adobe Flash users mainly, or any other game developer to keep there game size within the Kbs. CREDIT TO KILLY | Who ripped the full music from the game [Click to get the full music files] I have included three types of each level music here's there meaning: HQ - High Quality | 192Kbps Stereo LQ - Low Quality | 64Kbps Mono ELQ - Extra Low Quality | 18Kbps Mono You will be surprised that the LQ files don't actually sound that different from the HQ files and notice that the files size is significantly lower. The ELQ files are extreamly small but do not sound as good, perfect for dial-up connections. The ZIP archives contain all quality variations of the background music. -- Necrum Mines Download > FeeCo Depot Download > SoulStorm Brewery Download > Bonewerkz Download > Slig Barracks Download > War Room Download > More coming as soon as I do them | Please give notification on where your using these, it will be greatly appreciated but is not necessary. |
you have contributed greatly to OWF in the form of gamemaker's help and needs, with good quality. are you studying this type of stuff at the moment?
you seem to be very good at it and personally i think you should pursue it. +rep. |

Surprisingly I've learnt everything myself. School just teaches me what the word, "typography" means and the like. My speciality is graphics and I'm taking that at collage. I'm also taking a degree in Web Design at the moment. I just hope I get a good job out of this :D Thanks again |
well done, i was hoping for someone to post these.
Great work! Ideally sound and graphics should be the last thing to work on.
I got fed up of coding, so I decided to help people out a bit. I have time to burn, may as well use it.
Since I know how to make music I may be able to help out. Lowering the quality of the sounds for now could help, It won't be like that in the full game but it compresses it and makes the game still better to test and smaller in size. Also, trimming the song down to just an interesting part too helps keep file size down to a minimum although it would sound kinda.... tacky i guess...

thanks this is a big big big big X5057 help thanks

They are trimmed, and made to loop. Also the small files are mono and have a lower kbps. There's no way to make them smaller without loosing so much quality that its unlistenable. |

I think he was referring to the uploaded files seeing as though he did ask for them...
EDIT: WTF? Where did J_dudes post go? EDIT2: Ahh its back. |
Use the smaller files for testing purposes.
Or for dial-up and mobile flash games / projects to make them easier distributable on Nokia platforms and other Flash enabled phones.
do games made by gamemaker7 work on cell phones?
:
i thought GM7 could have exe files.

Is there any chance someone could 'rip' all of the music from the Strangers Wrath Soundtrack? The one that costs money?
I know I could do it but i can't guarantee it to be successful.... Let alone have a perfect quality sound to it....
These sound files were specificaly made for jdudes game to keep it a lower file size. The reason why gamemaker takes ages to load is because it uses a too high standard of compression.
Also exe files only work on windows computers. They don't even work on Windows Mobile devices. |
