Scribblenauts

Is a DS game wherein you must summon objects to help you complete levels. To do that, you type in the name of what you want and the game produces it for you. It has a huge dictionary so it has most everything you will want.

I was sad at the lack of Obama.

I wonder if it would be updateable via wifi to include even more words...but that right there is pure awesome

Possibly. Nintendo has talked about the possibility to update firmware on DS and DSLites.

Unfortunately, it doesn't sound like it's as awesome as it should be.

It seems that most of his complaints come from the awkward controls. I still plan to get this. I think it will be a great tool for helping Abbey build her capacity for abstract thought.

Lol. They should have summoned Chthulu.

?
??

At one point they do mention summoning Cthulu, but that doesn't really address their concerns.

I was talking about the first video.

OANST 09-15-2009 06:46 AM

Ahhh. So you were.

Xavier 09-16-2009 09:43 AM

Tried the game at gamescom, I was surprised you could play a full French version of it

Josh 09-16-2009 09:45 AM

MUST GET!
But first I need a DS. Cock.

Hobo 09-16-2009 11:03 AM

I don't know why people were disappointed. What were they expecting?

Nate 09-16-2009 05:07 PM

I think the issue is that every reviewer agrees that the gameplay is awesome but the experience is ruined by small details in the controls. Such an easy thing for them to fix, but they didn't.

I don't see why not. Nouns are the easiest thing of all to translate.

And verbs have to conjugate! AAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!

It's really a pity when brilliant games are ruined by a hellish control scheme.

Mac Sirloin 09-18-2009 03:57 AM

My friend suggested I get Layton 2 then this.

If I have enough money I'm buying BOTH MOTHERFUCKERS.

Leto 09-21-2009 08:37 PM

the controls are SO BAD, but on the flipside, you can summon KEYBOARD CAT

Nate 09-21-2009 09:13 PM

Did anyone get the pre-order hat? Is it worth going out of my way to obtain?

Strike Witch 09-22-2009 12:02 AM

Well, would you wear it regularly?

Also, what are the DS controls for the game, specifically? I'm curious what's so ugh about it.

AlexFili 09-22-2009 12:28 AM

Basically, you tap something to interact with it.

Get in a helicopter - Tap
Move somewhere - Tap
Shoot something - Tap

So yeah, it gets annoying sometimes. And of course, there are times when you want to pick something up and you accidently walk into an enemy or a land mine.

The Puzzle levels are more fun because they are simpler. Making levels more complex just makes them more unstable (rather than fun).

Summoning Cthulu or your favorite enemy is really fun.
My favorite custom level is one where I have a T-Rex wearing a Top Hat and a Saddle. I shoot it with a Mind Control Device and I can ride it to kill the Feep (robot zombies).

I give this 9/10. If the controls were better I would give it 10/10. Definately a must-buy for all with large vocabularies.

The review linked to in my post earlier in this thread explains them.

Controls:

Yes, you tap to activate something. But you also tap to move your character, which is where problems arise ("Hey let's move over there NO DON'T PICK THAT UP" etc)

Crashpunk 10-17-2009 12:57 AM

i played it a couple of days ago. its Awesome.

Nate 10-17-2009 06:01 PM

Come back in a couple more days and tell us whether you still think that.
