more motivation 4 guests
Whenever I am on here I always see that guests outnumber everyone else....... I think their should be a better motivation for them to join, like get free oddworld sprites or something like that, maybe even have a BIG oddworld MMORPG here that is really awsuame and you have to be a member of the OWF to play it. Just an idea.

Haven't we been through this recently? Most of those guests aren't.
|
I think things are fine the way they are.
|
I think, if anything, we need fewer stupid members.

Well I was just saying I don't see many different people on here, they usaually are the same names as they always are, every day. And Wings Of Fire what do you mean by
"Haven't we been through this recently? Most of those guests aren't." and by the way everyone it would still be cool to have a MMORPG, that only members could join, that was programmed not just people talking about what their character was doing. |

If you want to program an Oddworld RPG then be my guest, I wouldn't dream of trying to stop you. |
no I'm not saying I could do that, I don't have enough skills to program one yet.
|
We do have a MMORPG but it's a bit off and on at the moment.
Guests will either register, leave or just browse the forums like a silent observer. I don't really see a problem; "Be Our Guest!". |

it would be nice to see more new members though BTG, all the files we attatch in posts are available to guests, (at least i think they are), so free sprites or other freebies wont really work. As for MMORPG, im not sure what it is, but i think its an RPG so im not interested in what it is. also like alex said OWF already has one so thats not going to make guests register :\ |
i dont think i know any guests called '4', and i doubt they need much motivation with a name like that.
hang on, where's OddjobAbe to do this? i cant do it as good. EDIT: MMORPG stans for; Massively Multiplayer Online RPG. there's an oddworld section in Furcadia. |

thanks for clearing up confusion though |

Fuck sake guys, stop trying to trick him into thinking "massively multiplayer" games exist. You're all such a bunch of trolls. Next person to claim they exist gets a ban.

Quantity does not equal quality and forums don't really benefit from having legions of rather stupid people making asinine posts/threads. A forum I used to frequent had many of those people and I can definitely say the forum did not benefit from dozens of Insane Clown Posse threads and horribly spelled posts about how gross it is for old people to have sex.
The only thing that will really motivate people to join this place is if/when Oddworld Inhabitants releases another product. Fandom-based communities are generally dependent on the interest of the fandom: join rates go up when a new product comes out and it goes down when the company is on hiatus. Oddworld is obscure enough to have a small cult following, not popular enough to garner a steady stream of interest. Don't worry so much about the number of people here (it could well be a dead forum), just enjoy chatting with the current people until new people roll in. No tricks will get people to join - if you require people to sign up in order to get something (free sprite or what have you), that's all they'll sign up for and will not likely post in the forum. |

I think we're fine how we are. Better before... but yeah. We don't need lots of new members. If guests just want to browse the forums and not post, there's no point in signing up. They just leave after one post anyway so whatever.
|
some people who have signed up, still have only posted once :\ i dont get why
|
Maybe we're better off without them posting more than once.
As for new members, I vote for a qualifying screen supervised by Hobo and maybe Wings. New members would be scarce, but those who make it through are bound to be awesome. |
well i dont know if i would of done, i wonder what this would involve?
|
We don’t need to provide more motivation for guests to join. We have a stable community of regular contributors, a wide range of less-than-regular contributors, and a pretty steady influx of new members. Not everyone who registers will want to post regularly, and that's fine. I appreciate your suggestions, but I see no need to start advertising ourselves.
|
yeah, never actually thought about the fact that the new users would post a couple of times and leave after they got the prize for joining.
|
Considering that the prizes are organised by Pilot, do you really blame them?

I never got that sent to me when I joined :D

We should Bomb New Jersey.
