which one was better?
Does anyone else think that the Oddworld games on the play station had better graphics than the one on the X-box:fuzconf:? even though the games on the X-box were 3-d, i thought the games for the play station were a bit better.

In graphics, 2D is much easier to make than 3D.

question answered.
shortest. thread. ever. |
The 2D images were all pre-rendered. By computers not as powerful as the XBox, it has to be said, but they had all day to do it.
|
what do you mean by pre-rendered?
|
They were rendered by computers previously, so only an image file has to be loaded. As opposed to rendered in real-time, which a 3D engine must do.
|
oh...
|
also this is kind of random but do you know if they hand-painted all of the backgrounds in oddworld:abes exodous? because if they did that must have taken a LONG time.
|
They were digitally painted with some pre-rendered objects on top of it...

i'd pick the traditional 2D over the 3D anyday. those screenshots were sumthin else, looked unreal :)

I think it's awesome to lead mudokons in 3D and have much more freedom when possessing Sligs. Stranger's Wrath in particular is a brilliant game. AO and AE were much harder and had more secrets though.
Munch's Oddysee showed off some pretty amazing graphical capabilities; (30-40 paramites/scrabs on the screen at once!), unfortunately there was never a sequel which could have improved on it. I'm still hoping for a Wii/WiiWare oddworld game. There were 3 gameboy games made anyway, it wouldn't be a bad idea to go for a console with a large audience. |
2D straight up.
the atmosphere was just... odd in MO the game looked as if it was made by Dreamworks or Disney. Way too easy and childish. I didnt like the vending machines all over the place eather, in AO and AE they were placed nicely, not being over used, and plus they wernt just boxes like MO. |
2D Oddworld games, there just far more fun then the 3D ones.
|
Hands down the 2D games. Not only were they unique, but they were extremely addicting. AO is a pure classic. MO was a little upsetting, and SW wasn't bad, but the old style games killed!!!
|
The 2D ones are certainly the most stunning, with very gorgeous backgrounds. Very detailed. Munch's Oddysee was quite disappointing, but I chalk that up to all the stuff that had to cut out. Stranger's Wrath looks amazing, though, not in the classical way of the 2D ones but it is certainly immersive.

I think SW was more fun then the 2D games... if I have to choose what game I want to play again right now it would definitely be SW.
|
Yeah Stranger was a lot better than it's getting rep for. It's probably the most underrated game on the xbox, getting no marketing and being sold just as people were switching to next-gen systems. It really pains me to know that OWI won't be making story games of that magnitude anymore because they were really on to something special with that game.
