Mongo River on Oddworld Map?

Hi. I'm new but I've been playing Oddworld since the PS1 came out :D. Finnished all games 100% (except OA 1 & 2) and I'm very interested in the Oddworld universe :). On topic, I think I've stumbled across something quite... odd. I was just looking at the Oddworld Map and Mongo River Map when i found something that caught my eye...

It appears that these to sections of the river are similar and it happens to be the same river Munch is captured near. The thing is the Mongo pic is upright with north at the top whilst the Oddworld map section is rotated 90 degrees clockwise. Other things include the fact that Oddworld is huge, so the river on the map may be alot bigger than the Mongo River. On the other hand the mountains seem to be arranged slightly similar on both maps.
Has someone else found this before? Do you think there is a slight chance it is the Mongo? Or do you see it as coincidence? Thanks! :p

It's a bit too close to the mouth of the river. The setting of SW would be much further upstream. Plus, we don't know for 100% sure that the river in MO is the Mongo.

If we assume that it is the Mongo, take a look at the attached image taken from the octagon map on the bottom right. You can see few wiggles in the river further upstream from the main map that could also possibly match the SW map.

Yea I thought that too, just was interested in why the two sections of map looked alot alike. Also I didn't say that I thought the Mongo was the river in MO, I just said that the similar section I found was the same river as in MO, but didn't know if it was the Mongo or not - I should of made it more clear :). Anyways, I always imagined those other wiggles as the Mongo River such as here :

Anyone got other ideas?

I thought SW took place on a completely different continent?

d0mm2k8 04-22-2009 01:27 PM

Nope. It's still on Mudos, just a different area.

You obviously aren't a "superior fan".

Christ, get this squared away.

Just for the record, SW takes place in Western Mudos...

none of the rivers you pointed out, d0mm2k8, are in the Western (or Life) region of Mudos...

Unless 'Western' is an adjective meaning 'Of or pertaining to the genre of Western Film' rather than 'Of or pertaining to the Westerly As you wish! direction'. :p

Hmm good point Xavier, yet Nate has a good point too. However i have a view aswell :p.
The Wild West/Old West in America is stated to be anywhere west of the Mississippi River. As you can see in this map, it is not exactally in the centre of the US:
http://img14.imageshack.us/img14/197...urchase.th.jpg

That may mean that the term 'Western Mudos' isn't something that is decided by political means but rather the regular inhabitants of Mudos may use the term, the same way American and other nationality citizens use Wild West. Aslo the same Wanted poster you posted states that Stranger last purchased 'A six dollar necklace...'. Oddworlds currencey (or at least Mudos') is Moolah, which suggests that there could be several or just a couple of mistakes in this poster (but there might not be :)). To (sorta') back this up, in the past I have only heard Lorne or any of his co-workers mention the game as Western themed so the creator of the poster may have taken it literally. This is all just my 2 cents and just an opinion but please share yours :). Anyways, Xavier could be right but we'll never know for sure where the Mongo River is, unless OWI release a new version of the Oddworld map featuring the Mongo Valley. Seems unlikley due to recent events and projects.

P.S. Also, if it has officially been stated as the actual west of Mudos, please share the link :p

Good points Nate and d0mm2k8, but then I guess we just can't locate the Mongo Valley on Mudos with the elements we have, at least at the moment

Yea, your right. I just hope they don't make too much of Oddworld we know now non-cannon. It would kill me to know that most of the information I've been collecting since 1997, suddenly wouldn't 'matter'.

Tell that to the guy who has been writing the Oddworld Encyclopaedia

d0mm2k8 04-25-2009 04:23 AM

Lol :/ I know all about TOL and the rest. In fact, that's where i got most of the information. Very useful is TOL, I must say.

moxco 04-27-2009 10:08 PM

Xav. You just posted that link to get kudos, didn't you?

Xavier 04-27-2009 10:49 PM

No, I don't write the Encyclopaedia, Max does...

moxco 04-28-2009 02:28 PM

Then what the hell do you do?

d0mm2k8 04-28-2009 02:50 PM

He's the archivist, I think.

Wings of Fire 04-28-2009 03:09 PM

And I'd take an educated guess and say he pays towards the site's maintenance, do you not think your reply sounds a little offensive MoxCo?

moxco 04-28-2009 10:26 PM

Only to the religous.

Xavier 04-28-2009 10:27 PM

I handle TOGG, the Oddworld Cinema and the Odd Wide Web
I also contributed to the Scriptures

so no, I'm not totally useless ;)

moxco 04-29-2009 12:01 AM

Oh right. Sorry I was getting TOL mixed-up with TOE.
