God Hates Fags
I was struck with this today.
I got word that these people were paying a visit to my sister's high school in Reno in response to the school's support alliance for gay/lesbian students. The group at the table for discussion is the Westboro Baptist Church... they have nationwide support groups and affiliates and make it their business, apparently, to persecute the GLBT crowd and their supporters for the good of humanity and the glory of god. Now when I first heard that they had scheduled a 'stop' at my sister's high school in response to their active GLBT alliance I was curious (I'd never heard of them)... when I heard the word "church" I was not surprised, and then when I heard that the principal had issued a schoolwide announcement AND sent letters home to parents warning them to not pay any attention I was aghast, but not as aghast as I was when I hunted down their web site and saw what they were on about. What really surprises me the most about this is how Washoe County School District actually granted these people permission to even be let on school grounds; the fact that they are connected to religion quite aside, but more for their well known and notorious hatemongering toward America and Homosexuals. Check out the website. It's flooring the stances they are taking and the outright inflammatory methods they are using to spread what can be mistook for nothing but viscious hatred by even a fool. These people are out there waving signs about that say "God Hates Fags," "God Hates Fag Enablers" "Fags doom Nation" and "Thank God for AIDS" amongst many other things. Now, right on their web site they are doing what they claim to be "peaceful demonstrations," but how can these demonstrations be "peaceful" as they put it, when the very mannerisms and language they used are designed to inflame? Look for yourself. www.godhatesfags.com I think that they take themself as seriously as they do purely by the 'professionalism' of their web presence is laughable. At first I was sickened, but visiting their web site actually made me feel better because I didn't see anything on there that a rational person would find appealing. It's all based on hatred. We knock religion a lot here guys, but seriously this is an extreme isn't it? What possibly pushes one to affiliate ones self with an entity such as this? |

Really this is more about the school district letting them demonstrate on campus. |
Well, as far as I know the Bible says man on man/women on women is not good. But I don't think it says in there God hates you if you're gay.
Personally, I couldn't give a flying fuck what someone's sexuality is. As long as they understand I have some boundaries, I'm okay with whatever, be it straight, bi, or gay. Just more extremist christians. Old news. |

The fact gays can't marry in my stupid country means I have two less marriages in my family that I can attend. Yeah, because Church and State are separate.

Really, I'm content to let them be even at the standards they've stooped to because their actions speak louder than their words... but who opened this can of worms at the school district office by letting these people in? How are the kids supposed to feel about this? About themselves? How is it right when even the principal doesn't condone the message? On the other hand I think it DOES present an interesting opportunity for the students to take a strong dose of reality. I approve of this as there's no sense 'sheltering' them. Ultimately each of them is going to make their own decision. Let it be an educated one. :D Does anyone think that this oversteps the 'keeping religion out of school' thing? |

Yes, I do. Things like this are just going way too far now - I mean I still have a problem with people who think being gay is bad, "like, what's the problem with it?" but I can sort of understand why people would feel this way.
But what this school is doing is outrageous, it's things like this that piss me off more than anything. :

I know weddings are nice for the people involved, but I get a little worried when all the Grandmas and wrinklies (OANST) start dancing and cheering because they are all really pissed. But I can't imagine a Gay marriage.

I saw a sickening program about this american church who got children as young as 6 to hold up anti-gay slogans. One of the children got hit on the head with a fast food drinks bottle, the parents couldn't care less about their children at all. It's just brainwashing.
