Munch PC Port

Has anyone encountered a third-party/fan made port of Munch to PC? If so, I'd love to find one. Am I the only one who thinks this?... :fuzconf:

No. It doesn't exist. I suspect it would be impossible - I've not heard of any Xbox ports done by anyone other than professional developers.

That said, it's a pretty good chance that Oddworld Inhabitants are/will in the future hiring people to do the port so it can be sold on Steam.

I don't have an Xbox, yet have always felt the need to get the game, but don't want to fork spare money out on a console I'll never use.

I felt exactly like you do now Xan. But the thing is, there are tons of simply brilliant exclusives and great games. Here is my list;

Oddworld Munch's Oddysee
Oddworld Stranger's Wrath
Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay

(The following are not exclusives but are still awesome games)
Halo 2
Fable
Half Life 2
Fahrenheit/Indigo Prophecy
Thief: Deadly Shadows

XanOblivion 03-31-2009 12:27 AM

Oh, well I've played Chronicles of Riddick (finished it too - Thank god they are making an extended re-release on 360, I hope it will come on PC though), and Strangers Wrath (Finished about 60% of the game at my friends house on his Xbox). I just haven't played Munch.

AlexFili 03-31-2009 12:46 AM

To be honest it wasn't a brilliant game. In fact, you can play Munch's Oddysee on your 360. There are a couple of issues with sound, but apart from that it works fine.

XanOblivion 03-31-2009 01:33 AM

I see where you're coming from Alexfili, I've heard the same from many many people which is why I haven't picked it up and played it yet. Based on their opinions, I feel that I just need to play it and finish it so I can say I've experienced more of Oddworld.

From what I've heard there were serious plans over at OWI to have MO and SW being ported on the PC and distributed via steam (and maybe GOG)...

I guess you'll have to be patient

I hope they do that. Think of all the cool mods that could be made.

Nate 03-31-2009 04:21 PM

Just like all of the cool AO and AE mods?

AlexFili 03-31-2009 11:25 PM

Someone actually did work on a MO mod on the Xbox.
AO and AE were made using a complex closed-source engine, hence no mods.

It was a shame it was done like this, a few mods never hurt...

Until they screw up your system for not installing them right *palm meets face.

And what makes you think MO won't be made using a complex, closed-source engine?

It is a shame. I'm quite surprised that no one has succefuly hacked it. Although there was this newbie, not long ago, who claimed he could hack it and was going to make new levels and everything. I tried really hard not to get my hopes up.

BTW: Was the MO mod by SligStorm?

Because there was an MO mod for the X BOX:

I've just been reading about the A.L.I.V.E. game engine, the 2D Engine which was used to make AO, and AE. I wonder if it can be found anywhere.

Xavier 04-01-2009 05:39 AM

the A.L.I.V.E. engine was developed by OWI and there is no reason they would give it out for free, so I doubt you can find it anywhere.

AlexFili 04-01-2009 06:16 AM

It's either fully closed source, and there have been no software leaks, or it was all done in hard-code. I did see some videos of a MO mod, so I think it is possible.

Most console games actually are hackable and moddable, but since there isnt an ideal way of editing code on a console, it has to be done via homebrew and custom firmware.
