Welcome to the Forums!

Citizen Seige, Oddworld Inhabitants upcoming non-oddworld CG movie (In case you didn't already know), was scheduled to be released at the end of '09 but most likely it won't be released to 2010.

If were lucky. I wouldn't count on it till 2012 at the barest minimum.

:fuzsad:
any news on if they will bring munch and stanger to the pc?

Nate 03-28-2009 10:18 PM

It's a strong possibility but will depend on the sales of AO and AE on Steam and GOG.

alf's brother's mate 03-29-2009 12:10 AM

I might buy them both off steam just to contribute to oddworld.
I feel like a limpet, i'm clinging on but am doing absolutley fuck all.

I heard they were working on ports... but I have no idea how much longer it will take.

AlexFili 03-29-2009 01:44 AM

Some of the things which are happening;
1) A port of Munch's Oddysee and Stranger's Wrath to Steam
2) An Oddworld game being planned with Maxis
3) An Oddworld movie being planned

Of course, most of these are rumors so just take them with a pinch of salt.
Welcome to Oddworld!

2) An Oddworld game being planned with Maxis

Actually, a game that is possibly to do with Oddworld but may be an unrelated property being produced by Jeff Braun, who used to work for Maxis but doesn't any more

Where'd you hear that?

I did a quick search on Google and the results pretty much mirrored what Nate and AlexFili said, so we've just got to hope for the best.

Is there going to a new Abe game?

AlexFili 04-09-2009 05:58 AM

Good question. My honest opinion is, yes. Just don't expect it for 2-5 years.

Crashpunk 04-17-2009 09:24 AM

Aww come on OWI a new Abe game couldn't take this long?
i'm hopeing it going to be like AO and AE and not like the dissapointing MO.

drag0nbane442 04-17-2009 09:31 AM

Munch's Oddysee wasn't disappointing. It was different, but I think just the fact that it gives you more of a feel that you're actually in the game, and not in front of a big box, makes it an improvement over the series. Oddworld was always supposed to have an impact on gamers, something that is harder to achieve when a person doesn't feel that they are actually there.

Xavier 04-17-2009 09:59 AM

or something new and refreshing like SW...

my guess is, don't expect anything before 2 years

Sounds quite ridiculous if you ask me. Porting an 8 year old game to the PC? You can't be so naive. When has this done before? Never gonna happen. And I'd say Stranger's Wrath with its 4 years is also past the mark where there would be hope for a port.

AlexFili 04-18-2009 10:44 AM

Chronicles of Riddick was recently remade into a 360 game. I personally believe it could happen, but first Oddworld Inhabitants needs to take the big step into the new consoles, which is tricky. A Wii verison of AO/AE would be an interesting challenge.

I don't believe that Munch's Oddysee was the failure that everyone is saying it was. Sure there are some bugs and the game was cut short, but the basic plot is still pretty cool. How many one-legged amphibian heroes do you know about?

Are you kidding? OWI actually said they were working on ports for MO and SW a short while back. Take a look at Chrono Trigger, that game was 13 years old when they ported it to the DS. Plenty of old games have been ported to newer consoles. MO and SW aren't even that old.

Those games seem more like virtual console material if you ask me. As I mentioned I while back, I wouldn't mind seeing if a DS port would be possible, though.

Jordan 04-18-2009 11:32 AM

I reckon a PSP port would be more likely, but I guess there'd be no point 'cuz people can just download the PS1 versions from the PS3 onto the PSP. A DS port would be pretty interesting.

They did? Hard to imagine from a company whose internal development studio has been shut down. I would think they'd outsource the work like with the 2 first games. Either way post the link then?

Umm, that's completely different. We're talking about console to PC not console to console or console to handheld. Very, very different markets.

Besides Chrono Trigger is absolute classic and it makes sense as a DS game even 13 years later. Nearly 10 year old console platformer on a PC in other hand does not. I'm just being a realist here.

Have a good read of this.

:

Lorne: Yes. They will be re‐released on Steam. We’re doing that now, starting with the Abe games. They’re being tested as we speak. They’ll be at a really reasonable price point. I’m getting the impression that Steam wants to sell things cheaper, so that more people can get them. We’ll see how the sales go and then we’ll decide whether to finance the conversion of Munch and Stranger to Steam as well. We are huge believers of digital distribution; that it’s the answer. So we’re huge supporters, philosophically, of Steam and everything Valve is doing. If Oddworld has a company that it’s really admired, it’s Valve. They have very different types of content. I think Gabe Newell is one of the smartest people in the industry, hands down.

I take back what I said about them working on ports, but they are indeed thinking about it.

hihihi 04-18-2009 12:47 PM

Alright. So I guess there is some hope. Or rather was some hope? I say was because it's been nearly a year since the Steam release and there hasn't been any news on this.

OddjobAbe 04-18-2009 01:27 PM

That is likely because they were/are thinking about it, meaning it isn't necessarily going to happen any time soon. Remember, they are busy with Citizen Siege and will be busy with an Oddworld motion picture and possibly new game. And I doubt that porting is easy. They shouldn't have to tell us every two minutes what they're up to. Remember, every second wasted keeping us up to date on what they should be doing could be spent valuably on their work that is for us.
