Why you have to swear?

I realise when I go through the forums. A lot people swear a lot. Not sure if done before but want to ask why you do it?

Is because out of habit? Or that swearing best to get someone attention or emphasise using it noun and adjective form. A lot of the topics titles are good examples.

For me I dont swear. However I realise the younger generation tend swear a lot these days. Is it 'cool' to swear?

Strike Witch 03-22-2009 11:43 PM

Swearing is fucking fun.

Disgruntled Intern 03-22-2009 11:47 PM

In my personal fucking experience every cock-starved young cunt out there loves a fucking bastard looking to dip his pickle in a barrel of pussy brine. It's god damned important, swearing.

Pilot 03-22-2009 11:51 PM

Good question, and I think the answer depends on the society you're from.

The young people can do it out of general 'conditioning,' meaning they were simply brought up around it, or else its a form of rebellion.

In any case, whether rebelling or just having been conditioned to do it, there is a 'shock factor' in swearing that gives whatever you're saying a sharp point.

Notice though how swearing is not always 'appropriate' and in proper 'social graces' someone might not swear in a position where they think it is not appropriate; in a situation they are comfortable however, social graces go out the window.

So to answer your question, I think that swearing is just a social trend spread by far-reaching media. It's almost faddish.

It also becomes part of the language and grammar, much in the same way that 'like' has become a meaningless word thrown in the middle of sentences yet not changing their meaning.

Havoc 03-23-2009 05:00 AM

Because it feels awesome.

Wings of Fire 03-23-2009 05:13 AM

Verbal release of aggression means we spend less time punching and raping people.

OANST 03-23-2009 06:17 AM

Spongebob taught me how to enhance my sentences.

OddjobAbe 03-23-2009 07:36 AM

I do it because I'm speaking how it would come out over here in the real world - it's just a habit, it's informal. I don't use it to try and make people feel uneasy, it's just how my family around me spoke when I was growing up.

Now, if I was very serious, I'd use "proper" words instead of substituting adjectives.

Notice how all swear words are scatological or sexual in nature. I think the nature of our curses are a product of our Christian heritage of denying human nature. Swear words are both harsh to the ear and invoke "improper thoughts".

Fuzzle Guy 03-23-2009 10:07 AM

Usually it makes something funnier. I rarely swear if I'm angry or just for the sake of swearing.

Jesus Christ, Marcus, don’t forget the goddamn blasphemous swears.

Also the spacker faggot terms that target particular racial and social groups like them chinks and gyppos by using words associated with them to mean ‘bad’, or directly insulting them. I am hoping this type of profanity is used a little less by the good folks that attend these forums, and if so they’re doing so with a remedying dose of jest.

Afterthought: And for the purposes of exemplification, natch. >.>

Bullet Magnet 03-23-2009 10:31 AM

I forget about those, probably because I never considered blasphemy to be swearing. That must be why American TV bleeps "hell".

It doesn't. It does bleep goddamn, though.

mitsur 03-23-2009 10:34 AM

They're sentence enhancers, and they make my tongue feel spicy when I use them.

I fucking love spongebob.

Really? I often heard people talk about the word as if it were a curse. Then again, if it's being bleeped, one cannot actually hear it.

No, no. Hell is fine. No bleeping for that. In fact, you can say almost anything (excluding fuck) as long as you have the appropriate rating before the show.

moxco 03-23-2009 11:09 AM

Swearing is just a habbit people get into. I don't really see what is so bad about swear words they're just words.

Oddey 03-23-2009 12:05 PM

I try not to swear in real-life. But when someone just doesn't get the point a swear-word can help put them on the right track.

On this forum I swear as little as possible for fear of being thought of as an idiot.:D

AlexFili 03-23-2009 12:07 PM

Everyone goes through parts in their life where swearing seems like fun. Heck, I like Eminem just as much as the next man...

But whenever I post messages online where other people can read them, I try to cut down just to make it more user-friendly and less harsh.

I prefer to use joke swear words like Smeg.

Strike Witch 03-23-2009 12:29 PM

That Spongebob episode was actually on just yesterday.

*Dolphin noise*

Jordan 03-23-2009 12:39 PM

I swear cuz I can and it's free.

Actually, I have no idea why I swear, I just like doing it, it makes me feel good. :p

OddjobAbe 03-23-2009 12:49 PM

Oh shit, there are no "drinky" drinks (alcoholic beverages) left. This renders the bar useless. Fuck, fuck, fuck, fuck, fuck.

There. Another reason to cuss. If you're bone dry, what else can you do?

Wil 03-23-2009 01:18 PM

You could deconstruct your bar. It would save space.

OddjobAbe 03-23-2009 01:50 PM

Are you my wife? She wants me to do that, but I love it too much. Stop supporting her. Support me, you bastard.

Bullet Magnet 03-23-2009 02:05 PM

You guys are all gosh-darned cunts.

shaman 03-23-2009 02:16 PM

seconded...

mitsur 03-23-2009 02:27 PM

Fuck you, Burning Man.

Wrong.

They've been able to say God Damn and shit on television for years now.

Fuzzle Guy 03-23-2009 02:36 PM

British Television bleeps ass but not bitch. =/
