Munch's Exoddus?
OK. We have had the two games in the Oddworld Quintology released:
1. Oddworld: Abe's Oddysee Oddworld: Abe's Exoddus has not been labelled as the second game in the Quintology, but as a part 2 to Abe's story. 2. Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee but it's just stopped there. We had Stranger's Wrath come out, which was not part of the Quintology and, to the best of my knowledge, we haven't heard anything from the world of Abe and Munch since then. On a few Oddworld fan sites, I've seen pages linking to rumours about Munch's Exoddus, but are they true? Is the Oddworld Quintology never to be continued? |
Oddworld has taken a break from game production and will focus on movies. At this stage, the most likely path will be that after Citizen Siege is released, they will focus on an Abe movie. Then the quintology will continue in movie form, with games accompanying each film.
|
To add to that, Munch’s Exoddus was logically the game that would have followed Munch’s Oddysee for reasons of incorporating many elements that didn’t make it to Oddysee, and maximize profits and gameplay from the A.L.I.V.E. II game engine, giving them more time and funds to develop their next generation engine. Oddworld Inhabitants did indeed start working on Munch’s Exoddus before bigger concerns came up about the game’s technical limitations and marketability. Hence the derivation into Stranger’s Wrath, which in turn led to the closure of the game studio.

It doesn't necessarily mean AO and AE will be re-released in 3D. Nate just said they were continuing the Quintology, not starting it again. I think we're getting an Oddworld movie based on the events of AO, by the looks of the concept art released a bit ago.
|
I think that AO and AE might be remade at some point in the future. But it won't be in the next 5 years.
|
I expect they won’t be made into separate remakes.

Should they ever release an Abe film (not certain), it's probable any companion games will complement the film - in the way Wage Wars would supposedly complement Citizen Siege, rather than being Citizen Siege: The Game
I don't see why OWI would commission the usual movie tie-in of retelling the movie story in game form and I don't see why they would commission a remake of the Abe's Oddysee game either. |
Bear in mind that the plot of the Abe film will be significantly different to AE and AO. The title will probably be different also. They will likely continue to make the games available for people who are interested in the history of Oddworld as a company but will probably create new tie-in games specific to the movie.

I discovered something to add to the Munch's Exoddus comments.
The GBA version of Munch's Oddysee takes place AFTER the events of the Xbox version meaning it is, in some sense, Munch's Exoddus. I don't think it counts as Munch's Exoddus though because of the things everyone has brought up, such as improvements on gameplay elements from the game that came before, which the GBA version fails to do. I've had the GBA game for about 3 years now and I only realised this yesterday.:p |
Not only that, but a lot of the levels and designs are just ported from the Xbox version.
|
Designs of objects and landscapes are reused (and not shockingly considering it takes place in the same world), but none of the levels are copied from the original.
|
The first level is slightly similar in both versions. Well, the intro section of the first level.
|
Not really. They both introduce you to the same gameplay mechanisms in roughly the same order, but considering they use analogous gameplay, this is no surprise. The level designs aren’t the same.
|
Yeah... good point.
Now that I think about it more, the only real similarities are introducing you to the game and the fact that the intro level for both versions has a section with wooden steps. :p EDIT: I found another similarity! If you get Satanic Quarma (bad quarma), you get an extra edition of the Daily Deception (newspaper article), just like in the Xbox version. |
isn't it true OWI are making a Abe's Oddysee Movie?
|

honestly I doubt we'll ever see a game called Munch's Exoddus, but only time will tell |
They are working on "something to do with Oddworld". But they havent said if its an epic game or a casual game. Imagine a minigame collection for DS! that would be priceless!
What I meant about level design was that it was; Big Well, Slog Huts, etc... so basically, it follows the same structure of Munch's Oddysee. AO and AE both introduce mechanics in the same order, but neither feel like the same game. (apart from the engine) |
The one thing I felt that felt like AO in AE was that there were again Paramite and Scrab trials to go through. Other than that, yeah, they feel like different games.
|
I expect we'll never see OW again. After CS OI will either a: Make a sequel b: Make an nother CG movie (irrelivant to CS) c: shut down. Most likely C. Soz 'bout the pessimism.
|
Oddworld is WAY too big of a franchise to just let die.
If anything, another company like microsoft would buy it out. |
Oddworld's franchise actually isn't that big. Compared to Final Fantasy and The Sims, it's pretty small. Moxco, I wouldn't say we'll never see Oddworld ever again... We just have a long wait is all. I'm sure once OWI get back on their feet, they'll be big once again.
|
Actually Lorne is working his ass off to show us new glimpses of the Oddworld universe, paradoxically that's actually why he is working on Citizen Siege.
|
A little bit of me dies inside whenever I read through one of these threads because I miss the Quintology and even Oddworld games - but I suppose these threads have to be made. I'm not going to read these anymore.
I don't think I have seen any Oddworld franchise in my life, but I suppose thats because I don't go outside my cupboard... ABM |

He's taken a permanent vacation.
Serves him right for conulting a slig supervisor. |
Nah, he's selling houses at the moment
|
I honestly doubt we're going to see anything from OWI ever again. I think they'll quietly shut their doors and that will be that.

No sorry for negative guys it's just you know how many times OI has dissapointed us before. But Xav you're our prophet so I trust you. |
