Boy becomes father at 13!

How unlucky can you be? And on top of that the kid looks like he's 8! It's hilarious and quite sad both at the same time.

:

A THIRTEEN-year-old boy has become a father with his 15-year-old girlfriend but isn't sure how they will cope financially, because he doesn't know what the word means.

British boy-dad Alfie Patten yesterday admitted he does not know how much nappies cost — but said: “I think it’s a lot.”

Baby-faced Alfie, who is 13 but looks more like eight, became a father four days ago when his girlfriend Chantelle Steadman gave birth to Maisie Roxanne, The Sun reports.

He told how he and Chantelle, 15, decided against an abortion after discovering she was pregnant.

When asked how he is going to cope financially, Alfie replied, bemused, "What's financially?"

The shy boy, whose voice has not yet broken, said: “I thought it would be good to have a baby.

“I didn’t think about how we would afford it. I don’t really get pocket money.”

“When my mum found out, I thought I was going to get in trouble. We wanted to have the baby but were worried how people would react.

“I didn’t know what it would be like to be a dad. I will be good, though, and care for it.”

His father Dennis Patten, 45, said: “He could have shrugged his shoulders and sat at home on his Playstation. But he has been at the hospital every day.”

Maisie was conceived after Chantelle and Alfie — just 12 at the time — had a single night of unprotected sex.

After diligently ignoring the journalist's attempts at shock, I have concluded that "these things happen". Furthermore, I say that judgements will accomplish nothing and are, at best, far too late.

I wish the best of luck to them, and hope that arrangements will be made that are genuinely the best for each member of the family.

Nate 02-13-2009 04:57 AM

Holy shit. He doesn't look thirteen or even eight. He could pass for five or six.

Havoc 02-13-2009 05:04 AM

I'm wondering what the GF is all about that she likes 'dating' a kid that looks like a 6-8 year old... HMMMMMM!

Says it all really.

These things are more common than you'd think.

Oh fuck... Screwed life is screwed. That girl must be really desperate to want to have sex with that kid. The baby'll be dumped on its parents 90% of the time. I can't believe that, it's kinda sick.

Sure but the todler looking kid is the shock factor in this story methinks.

Which will have no bearing on how good a father he turns out to be, if anything I'm pleased by the fact he looks so young and cute, the least you can say of all this is he should end up with a really cute son :p.

Venks 02-13-2009 06:38 AM

Dang one night of unprotected sex. I've had more nights/days/afternoons of unprotected sex then I can even remember. Maybe I'm just really lucky. :D

No, they aren't. A few years older and yes. But it isn't common at all for that age.

Edit: This sort of thing is a problem. We can all sit around and talk about how he might be the most responsible thirteen year old on earth and wish him the best, but the bottom line is that this is the sort of situation that sees baby's skulls cracking against walls.

Standing back and saying "these things happen" is not only a poor way of carrying on a conversation (come with an opinion or don't come at all), but it creates this sense that indifference is not only more than acceptable, it is the only polite thing to do.

Bottom line: They should not be allowed to keep the child.

Common is relative and my point was badly put across, I mean to say that this certainly isn't the first time a twelve year old boy got a girl knocked up.

Now if she was a twelve year old girl I would be disgusted.

This. This is the problem. The irresponsible father, the idiotic parent trying to support his son with this worthless piece of shit comment. How he (Dennis) came to be a parent in the first place is shrouded in mystery. True enough, these sort of things aren't supposed to happen, but they do - and you need not look any further than the previous generation for an answer - they're obviously oblivious to the fact that their son is a fucking moron.

What I say, do or think about this situation does nothing to improve it, or indeed affect it in any way at all. I can only hope that the best is done for all three of them, but this is not exactly my expertise so I was mum as to what those arrangements might be. I try to limit mouthing off uninformed opinions, I do it too often as it is.

I'm not indifferent, but any further discussion about how terrible or unideal under-age pregnancy and the parenting/social environment that can lead to it is is a bit late as far as they are concerned, and thus a moot point in the conversation until the topic moves on in that direction.

Hobo 02-13-2009 08:50 AM

Or maybe you’re tempting fate by saying this and you will get an extremely unlucky phone call soon. I can come up with other situations, but I don’t want to give a lecture.

Their son is 13, was possibly 12 when he found out and decided against an abortion. Do you expect him to come to a wise decision? I find it hard to place blame here, not because I want to worm away from the problem and pretend it doesn’t exist—I don’t think this is the right thing for them to do—but because the article doesn’t detail who knew what and when. The one thing I do blame is the lack of sex education involved. I honestly don’t remember much about my sex education at middle school, and I feel snobbish and bandwagon-riding to accuse standards of education of slipping, but I am positive that sex education doesn’t teach children everything it should.

Or maybe in this case my fears don’t enter into it and the most progressive and comprehensive sex ed class in the country has indeed produced the most responsible pre-teen ever, but I don’t think getting upset with any of the individuals involved will do anything. I rarely do. Calling them stupid won’t cause the baby to be brought up any better.

Jordan, I can only hope the new grandparents invest in their grandchild’s care while they let their child continue his education for as long as he can.

Maybe he feels the need to prove himself over the internet.

I agree with the general sentiments in this thread. The shocking factor is how the boy looks, he looks about 8. I personally know people who became pregnant at 14 and 15, it's a sad fact that it happens.

The sex education at my school was rediculous. We were first taught about sex in Year 5 [aged 9 or 10], but it mainly focussed on periods and wet-dreams. Which, 10 years later, I find rediculous, we were told that sex exists but weren't given any facts. In Year 7 [aged 11 or 12] we were taught about sex in Biology, but weren't given any facts [again]. In Year 9 [aged 13 or 14] we were taught about STDs and pregnancy, but it wasn't until Year 11 [aged 15 or 16, and our final year of compulsary education] that we were taught about condoms and were told the facts.

I'm not saying that by Year 11 we didn't know anything already, but by this point 5 girls in my year had already dropped out of school to have babies. It's a sad fact that from my primary school class [of 25 people], I know 8 people who now have children.

I'm not sure how it was for the rest of Britain, or indeed the rest of the world, but I think that sex education needs to have more importance. There should also be alot more information avaliable for teenagers.

Well, according to the full length article, Dennis has fathered nine children and the girls' parents have six kids. Obviously they both have fertile genes and don't believe in contraception.

It was meant as a rhetorical remark. Nevertheless, whether you're a parent of 2, 9 or 15 children, there has to be a sense of responsibility and most importantly a desire to make sure your own children understand the basic forms of responsibility.

This is true. If you wrote this in regard to my previous post where I called both father and son idiots - I don't believe it'll change anything, but it's hard to think of anything else to say when you see stuff like this happen.

:

'The other day his dog ran into my garden and he had to come and fetch it. He looks so young and he's always giggling and laughing around.'

Last night it emerged that Alfie's older sister Jade, now 19, also had a baby at the age of 13.

And rumours began circulating in Chantelle's neighbourhood that Alfie was not Maisie's father.

Sean Thomas, who lives opposite the Stedmans, claimed Chantelle had already had several boyfriends, who were allowed to stay over in her bedroom.

He said: 'She's been with quite a few lads. They are allowed to sleep over at her house, her parents don't mind. She is treated like an adult and can do what she wants.'

Another neighbour, who did not wish to be named, said: 'The Stedmans let the kids run wild on the street until all hours, they have no control over them.'

A 17-year- old called Jake said: 'She knows lots of boys and never has the same boyfriend for long. Alfie lives with her and seems to think he's the dad but we all think he should have a DNA test.'
Girl fools around with alot of people it seems. 13 year old might not be the father.

I'll bet a hundred pound sterling that that's all lies and mudslinging, the Daily fucking Mail is a newspaper for fucking morons and is worse than The Sun in some respects.

Fucking reporters.

Holy shit are British people the worst or what?

Bullet Magnet 02-13-2009 08:29 PM

Just our journalists. And the people who buy their newspapers and support their irresponsible business.

Eh... motion carried.
