Red Ring of Death
Just got it again. I knew it was a recurrent issue with the Xbox 360 but never thought it was that frequent.
Has anyone else got that problem too, or am I really unlucky? |
Never had it. I have two of the latest generation ones though.
|
I've had the red ring about 11 times now and have given up trying to play on my Xbox 360 ever again. Also never watch any Disney films on your Xbox 360, for me it always gives me a red ring after trying to watch them.
|
I'm not unlucky enough to get RRoD, but I really feel bad for you guys who get it. It fucking sucks to be honest. Do you have to pay to get it fixed or is it free of charge?
|
I have one of the first generation X-box's and never had the damn thing once. In fact I never had a problem with my xbox to begin with.
And seriously if you get the RRoD 11 times then I'm pretty sure it's your own fault, not the X-box. And by the sound of it happening mostly after watching a DVD, it's prolly a heat issue. |
i havent ever had RRoD but my console is the latest (60GB) console :/
sorry to hear about peoples RRoD issues though! good luck... |
I'm sending my 360 back to Microsoft so they can fix all the shit they fucked when they were "fixing" it.

I got it on my refurbished Xbox 360 six months after the warranty expired. Needless to say, it's my doorstop now.

I had the RRoD last november, right before the end of guarantee. Sent in my 360, bought an ELITE and the old 360 was repaired and they even threw in an XBL card :P.
Now I have 2 360's though... Or one 720... |
According to a clerk at the local mailing office they get plenty of Xbox 360s everyday being sent back to be repaired.
|
I have a second-hand, upgraded core set bought off eBay, and have never had it, despite careless lugging it twelve miles in a bag twice a week.
|
I never had a RRoD, but instead it just failed one night when I brought it to a friend's birthday party. I tried everything I could think of that cost less than $30, and then sent it to a 3rd-party Xbox repair service, since
1. I've heard bad stories of Microsoft 'repairs' 2. My warranty had already expired. It cost like $100, which, while being a lot, is better than buying a new one. It turns out that it had gotten just a bit too hot, blown out the fan, and had partially melted the video card. So they replaced the card and installed a new, stronger fan. It now sounds a little bit like a vacuum when I turn it on, but it works. |
Never had it, even though I have my playstation and my dvd player on top of my 360. I really have no idea, though I think that when you send it in to get repaired, they rig the 360 to get the RROD again; since two of my friends that have gotten it, keep getting it.
|
Yes, they are purposely perpetuating the idea that the 360 is made with inferior workmanship. Also, they are intentionally spending the money to fix all of these problems. Fucking Microsoft and their subtle plans for world conquest.

OANST I can't give you enough rep. Ever.

The problem is that many people have their shit set up like this, get an error, send their stuff out to be repaired, get it back and put the machine back in the exact same circumstances. It's no surprise it then breaks again after a while. Also, I've recently opened my Xbox up to replace the noisy fan and while I was looking at the inside I had to say I don't get why Microsoft claims this thing is able to be stand up straight. The hardware inside is clearly not laid out for it. Heat from the CPU will be sucked out the back because of a fan tunnel but the heat from every other component will rise up to the HDD. And on top of that; the side the HDD is attached to barely has ventilation holes so if you put the box up straight a large portion of the heat has nowhere to go. In turn it will cause the hardware to malfunction a lot faster over time and because the box is up straight, the individual components are a lot more vulnerable to the heat loosening up internal connections (gravity is always pulling everything down) and one broken connection can lead to a hardware error AKA RRoD. So general advice, don't put your Xbox 360 straight up. Just lay it down on its side like any other console and you'll see it will last a lot longer. |
Xbox360's red ring is probably the biggest hardware problem to hit consoles for a very long time. Although supposedly the risk of red-ringing is a lot less than the first few batches.
Shame that they can't even pinpoint what causes it. You'd think that someone would have figured out what the heck causes it. |

I got it once, though pretty sure it was my fault, left it on for 3 days. I keep it up right, and it seems to do fine, but after what Havoc said, i might change that soon.

Does anyone else wish that MeechShrykull1029 was here? I mean, it's a step up, right?

At least MS1089 had a fluent grasp of English.
