Changes Made?
 

Have there been changes made to the type of file we can use as an avatar? I can't change mine now as it keeps telling me that the file is too large. It's telling me this for files I've used as my avatar fairly recently.

I wondered this. I was browsing the vB options (not making any changes), and I noticed that the maximum size an avatar upload can be is 8kiB, but I’m sure it used to be more than that. The rules disagree with me, but they can easily be changed by Peter. So Peter, made some changes?

Any chance we could change it back? I can't use anything other than what I currently have as things stand. I don't care over-much but it would be nice to have the option.

I would be more than happy to change it back if I knew for certain what it used to be. A reassurance from Peter that it wasn’t reduced in the first place to stop OWF exploding wouldn’t be unwelcome.

Although that may encourage me to raise it to something higher than ever just to be evil.

I've always thought the avatar limit was way to low to begin with, I always have to crop and dequalitize my pictures to ridicules standards if I want to upload them :p.

I modified the max avatar filesize at least two years ago to the current 8KB. This matches the rules which haven't been updated in yonks as well.

To be honest, if you can't reduce an image, even at our max dimensions of 100×100 down to 8192B, you fail.

Maybe photobucket changed something. They always worked before.

Why is there even a size limit on an avatar that's hosted somewhere else all together?

I figured out how to do it. And all I had to was break the forums.

Actually, they're hosted on the OWF. You can opt to upload an image that is originally from another website.

But you're avatar says it is 4.23KB :p

This. Alcar just enable us to use an avatar hosted somewhere else. I believe you can put limits on that too, so we can still prevent people using trillion mb pictures but we can like quadrupple the current limit.

And who the hell is still on 56k (other then Brittish people who have the digital infratructure of WWII) these days anyway!

Speaking of 'changes made' what about having a 'sexual preference' icon next to our names since we already have a 'rank' and 'sex' since that's such a big deal round here?
