tron and tr2n

first off: to all those people who remember I said I would never start another thread: I lied.

Anyway: I was wondering if anyone has seen tron before, also if you know about tr2n (the sequel out in 2011) or where to find a good quality version of the trailer.

mudling 01-10-2009 02:59 AM

Have you ever seen that simpsons movie where homer is asked to describe an interdimensional portal, and he says "Has anyone heard of the movie tron?" and every single character says no. Well, that pretty much somes up my thoughts now.

Yeah I've heard of it, and that apparently the matrix is based off it, so I guess the sequal may be interesting.

Mac Sirloin 01-10-2009 04:55 AM

The Matrix was inspired by tron?

Leto 01-10-2009 12:17 PM

Lol I guess I never made the association, but it makes complete sense to me now.

mitsur 01-10-2009 01:15 PM

Probably going to be killed by a sub-par plot, but the trailer looked cool.

Nate 01-10-2009 05:04 PM

Shouldn't the sequel to Tron be tr1n? Especially if we want to count like a computer code iterator?

Havoc 01-10-2009 05:08 PM

Nerd Alert...

Leto 01-10-2009 05:09 PM

The game Tron 2.0 had a gun called the LOL.

Nate 01-10-2009 05:12 PM

Was going to just edit my last post but Havoc and Leto got in first:

EDIT: Warning! Most of the videos on youtube are actually of the computer game or Rick Astley. Don't be confused.
EDIT EDIT: They actually haven't started making the film yet. The only footage available in blurry form on youtube was just test footage.

T-nex 01-10-2009 06:43 PM

I dunno.. TRON is a classic.... Who's gonna direct it and stuff?

Leto 01-10-2009 09:03 PM

Joseph Kosinski, so says wikipedia. It really, really doesn't need a sequel.

They've made a trailer. it was at some nerd convention, I heard about it.

Nate 01-10-2009 10:27 PM

Yes, at Comic-con. They haven't uploaded it officially yet, so all that's available on youtube are blurry phone camera versions.

Strike Witch 01-11-2009 12:09 AM

Well, that would imply they've done stuff, anyway.

I tend to think that it didn't need to be made at all. This is not a film that I get nostalgiac about. It is, however, a film that convinces me that it is time to change the channel when it comes on. I really don't like Tron.

mitsur 01-14-2009 03:05 PM

I saw Tron on 'Movies That Don't Suck' on G4.

More proof that G4 is a piece of shit.

They stopped playing 'Cops'? Well, I'll be a monkey's uncle.

Strike Witch 01-14-2009 05:00 PM

I didn't mind Tron. The dialogue and pacing was a bit off at some points, but the heart was there.

Not a movie I'd want to actually own, though.

However, it's been soured as of late due to the influx of Kingdom Hearts fans who have sort of claimed it as their own. *shudder*

Nothing frightens me more than hearing the words "influx of Kindom Hearts fans". I mean, really. Was Disney not already shit enough as it was? Did you have to add a Tifa love interest into Donald Duck's life? Who the fuck thought this would be a good idea? Who? I'll slap 'em. Unless they were just being really cynical and realized that some morons will buy anything while the rest of us either shake our heads or laugh. In that case I will kill them. Because they fucking better knew better.

I really liked the Kingdom Heart's series, it really came as a big surprise to me after being introduced to the internet in a big way when I found out how horribly the so called fandom of most of my favourite games and shows had warped and perverted them :(.

OANST 01-14-2009 05:27 PM

Disney is an evil empire and should be destroyed. That's all I have to say on the subject.

Strike Witch 01-14-2009 05:31 PM

Fandom ruins everything.

The Matrix was inspired by tron?

most current CG movies are inspired by tron in one way or another:

It inspired Jhon lasseter to start pixar,
It pretty much saved disney from going bankrupt,
at the time (when it had good graphics) it got tons of people to get intrested in CG bringing the graphics in movies and games we have today (maybe even oddworld.)

the hell? Tron wasn't major (what I heard)

EDIT: yeah

:

Tron was released on July 9, 1982 in 1,091 theaters grossing USD $4.8 million on its opening weekend. It went on to make $33 million in North America, moderately successful considering its $17 million budget.
nothing exactly groundbreaking.

lbyrd2 01-15-2009 07:14 PM

yes, but disney was doing very bad at the time (only making herbie movies) and tron brought in enough money for them to keep going

Strike Witch 01-15-2009 08:56 PM

...

I doubt it.

lbyrd2 01-16-2009 12:34 PM

rent the dvd and go to "the making of" on disc 2, they say disney wasn't going too well but they finally had the cutting edge stuff.

Strike Witch 01-16-2009 04:10 PM

... I'm not going to track down a DVD when you can pull that shit off some news site or wikipedia or something.
