YAY! So I spent over £200 on The Sims 2 and all their expansion packs just so they can release this and make me start over. Great.

Wait you spend money on these? Ha!

I stop after sims 2... Never got the expansions as I'm not gonna fall into EA's money-hungry trap. What more does Sims 3 have to offer except better graphics and possibly better ai?

I lost the remaining spark of idealism after the Ikea expansion.

I for one have always bought the original Sims games (the core's, if you will) but never the expansions. I fell (along with many many other people) for that sceme with the first Sims games. In the end I think I spent a good 300 Euro's on a game. That's not bad by itself but when they then started with The Sims 2 they cut out just about EVERYTHING that they added with expansions to the original Sims just so they could make expansion packs for it again and get extra cash. That's where I drew the line and decided to download expansions from that point on. Especialy if you see they charge like 20 bux for a 'Christmas Stuff Pack' that adds maybe 20 new christmas objects.
Downloading might be illegal, but charging that much money for such idiotic small things should be too.

With the Sims 3 they have restored a part of my faith though because they did decide to put a lot of things from The Sims 2 expansions in the core game for number three. We'll have things like malls, pets, beached, cars, weather and gardening from the get go. But for stuff like actualy going to uni or a vacation home they will likely just create expansions. If they are going to do the same with The Sims 3 like they did with The Sims 2 then I'll be downloading plain and simple.

I own sims 2 (with a couple of expansions) but I find it pretty boring.

So I'm saying NO to sims 3.

I'll probably get it, it comes out on the 15th of feb here though.

Having never played any version of The Sims, I don't get what the difference is between The Sims 1, 2 and 3. Especially considering the sheer number of addons and bonus packs released; why do they need to overhaul the game completely?

Better graphics, better A.I., better personality system, ability to walk seamlessly throughout the neighborhood...

Every new version of the game brings new stuff, new gameplay to the table. The only downside to this is that both Maxis and especially EA are both still money hungry companies. As a result the first core game of a new version (Sims 2, Sims 3) are stripped down to the core so they can start remaking expansion packs about things they could have easily implemented in the original game. I felt cheated like that with The Sims 2, after having played The Sims 1 and it's expansions for ages and getting used to all the goodies. And I'm pretty sure I'll feel cheated again with The Sims 3.

In fact from the few people who already played it I've heard that objects in game quite few, creation of custom content has been made harder on purpose and EA is opening a download store for The Sims 3 where you can download new items for 40 cent a piece. And they are wondering why people download games... :fuzsmile:

And then there was The Sims Ikea Home Stuff, which actually sickened me. Not like I'm a total Oddworld fanboy or anything but that contrived commercialized piece of shit is against everything that fans of innovative original games like Oddworld, Beyond Good and Evil and Portal stand for.

I've always hated Sims, Mysims was okey.

The joke with that was that on custom content websites for The Sims 2, plenty of people had already made Ikea objects which looked 10 times better then the crap Maxis wanted us to pay 20 bux for.
