Au Pair

I've moved recently and we went to visit our new neighbors yesterday evening. I find them strange and I doubt I will ever develop a real neighborish relation with them. But what struck me most odd about them is that they have an Au Pair walking around to look after their kids while they both work full time. The mother is Polish, as is the Au Pair, and the kids speak two languages.

When they explained some things about the Au Pair and why they had one, they said: It's just a blessing to just be able to prepare for work in the morning without having to get the kids out of bed, take them in the shower, make their food, take them to school ect.
This just struck me as weird and stupid. They both work full time, have two kids and don't even go through the trouble of raising the little bastards themselves.

Your opinions? Know anyone who has an Au Pair (or similar) walking around or something?

I know about 10 Au Pairs employed in London, a lot of the parents seem to spend time with the Children, and it's probably a lot more stimulating for tthe children than group activities like Nursery.

I don't like the idea :/ Then again, I don't have children.

Well maybe, but it strikes me more as if the children are just a side story in the parent's lifes, which seems a little backwards.

To have children and take such a clinical attitude towards them sounds horrible, but they’ve probably (or hopefully) not explained completely. Hopefully they do spend time with their children. Hopefully they are parents to their children and not just their funders.

If that's the case it's certainly fucked up, but it seems you don't really know enough about the couple yet to judge.
