Abe’s Oddysee and Exoddus now on GOG.com

GOG.com today sent me a press release stating that Oddworld: Abe’s Oddysee is now available for download from GOG.com (that’s ‘Good Old Games’, apparently), a digital distribution channel that focuses on making sure the games they sell are DRM-free. This version of AO is fully playable on Windows XP and Windows Vista.

The advantage of getting AO from GOG.com rather than Steam or eBay is that once you purchase the game from GOG.com you have access to freely downloadable content, which is supposedly:
  • manual (28 pages)
  • map (series)
  • mp3 soundtrack
  • hi-res wallpaper pack (6)
  • hi-res wallpapers pack (6)
  • avatars
  • desktop theme

So, to anyone who has yet to acquire these classic titles for your PC, I strongly recommend you do so now.

I am wondering whether ‘map (series)’ refers to the Oddworld map, or something new.

p.s. Abe’s Exoddus is now also available with the following bonuses:
  • manual (57 pages)
  • map (series)
  • hi-res wallpapers (2)
  • hi-res wallpapers pack (6)
  • hi-res series wallpapers 2(6)
  • avatars

Cool, thanks for letting us know. I was going to head over to stream earlier on today to download AO & AE, but then I didn't get round to it.

I think I'll wait till AE is out on Dec 23rd and then get both of them together.

That's two times they've been released for download. I still have my hopes up for MO and SW.

RabidZombie 12-16-2008 11:24 AM

Must get this... :D

You are right to, Jordan ;)

Has anyone noticed how the backgrounds on both the Abe's Oddysee and Abe's Exoddus overview pages are production designs from Stranger's Wrath and Munch's Exoddus respectively?

pack (6)
that's extremely ambiguous.

Either they have no idea what game is which, or there's a hint in there that SW and MO will be available. Sneaky buggers.

Xavier 12-18-2008 11:17 PM

nah, it's just looking cool...

yeah I noticed, but I guess we shouldn't dig too much into it.
I think it's just to use some "new" pictures to make the game seem less old.

So has anybody tested this on Vista yet? Any noticable glitches?

But you must pay it :(

Xavier 12-19-2008 12:09 PM

Yes, think of it as supporting oddworld inhabitants and funding their current projects.

I'd buy it because I haven't got it but I can't do it... I haven't got the money.

Has anoyone downloaded it already? Just intresting if there's something different between the old one and this.

If you read the first post of this thread you will find it XD

Admiral Zaarin 12-21-2008 11:52 AM

I was asking if they renewed the game itself.

Wil 12-21-2008 12:17 PM

No, it’s the classic game.

Wil 12-24-2008 09:29 AM

Abe’s Exoddus is now available on Good Old Games.

Incognito 12-24-2008 12:56 PM

Ok I bought both these games yesterday. Haven't fully checked out the games yet to see if there are any problems, but they start up fine; so far so good.

The extra content map was just simply the map that we've all seen before http://oddworldlibrary.net/archives/...RAMO0181_2.jpg

Wil 12-24-2008 01:06 PM

I thought as much. Without posting it unless it’s already freely available, how about the rest of the bonus content?

Second part of the Oddworld retrospective is up:

EDIT:

:

I was a big fan of the graphic novels from out of the UK and Europe. Stuff like Simon Bisley’s work on Slaine for 2000 AD, material that was rich in color, volume, intensity, and environmental atmosphere."
