The Aggressive Red Pen...

Just read the article. :
|
I do feel like committing suicide after reading all the threatening red lettering on that page. Kooky is the right word for it. The bigger threat from red pens is to colour blind people.
|
Holy shit. This is pathetic. People are far, far, far too overprotective these days, to such a ridiculous extent as to attempt to abolish red pens. What's wrong with them? As far as I'm aware, pupil's don't go "Holy shit, it's been marked in red pen! Everything's negative, my teacher's angry at me, I should just curl up and die!".
Words can not express how pathetic this is. This HAS to turn up on 'Have I Got News for You". |
Whaaat?
Now I'll have to modify another coloured pen to hide in my skirt for test editing! D=< |
My brother in law is a teacher and he's not allowed to express anything like an opinion in parent-teacher interviews or report cards. Not even allowed to say something like "Billy is distracting to the other students", "Bobby doesn't do enough work" or "Delilah would do really well if she payed attention occassionally". They basically end up being bland statements of grades and some vaguely hopeful statement that can apply to just about any student.

I have had red pens mark my work from day 2 and I have come out f-f-f-f-fine *twitch* |
Because obviously those suicide rates were to do with red pens as opposed to something actually bordering on sensible. Why is this an issue rather than thigns like bullying where teachers and staff aren't allowed to do enough to stop it?
What country does he work/live in, Nate? Either that or it's the particular school. We're in the UK here, but at my school that sort of thing is fine, and only said to try to help the student improve. Either way, that kinda rule does nothing but hinder it. All this wrapping up kids in protective tape has a much more detrimental effect than a positive one, I believe. Just another thing to add to the "this tree is a threat to someone who might try to climb it." type thing. Sort of thing I did, it builds character and such, it's not like I'm missing a limb, and if not allowed to do those thigns, they're just going to be given the impression that all these things that were previously a normal part of childhood are now to be fearful of. If I ever have kids, I'll probably end up trying my best to get them to stay calm at the site of a conker on the floor or something, the rate these things are going. Thank god most people are sensible and oppose this shit. Raise your hand if you now feel suicidal from reading this. |
In that case blue should make kids depressed and black should just make them think of death constantly! I say we just give hugs and point to a specific list of pictures when we want to say something. But make sure the hugs are at least 5 seconds each or some kids might feel ripped off and become suicidal.
Edit: And Zerox, I Immediately tried to kill myself with my keyboard as soon as all that awfull red lettering told me worthless little whore I was.*cries* |

I was always disappointed when I had a paper returned to me and it was covered in red pen. This was because I knew that meant I did a shitty job, though. If they switched it to another color I would still know I did a shitty job and it would still scar me for life. I prefer being patted on the head no matter what the quality of my work was. |
Stupid. Just stupid. Colors are indifferent. It's the text that matters.

:fuzconf: Wait what? |
First white text, but then capital letters and an EMOTICON!? You're far too harsh! You're such a goddamn asshole!
Racist bastard. I hope to god no one even thinks about italics. Those really are terrifying. I thought the Excorcist was scary, but... |
:
I'm not too annoyed by this, surprisingly. I find all these little psychological tweaky things to be pretty interesting. Lots of times little stupid things have a surprisingly heavy impact. There could be something to it. Though I do find the whole "those poor children" aspect of it rather irksome. |
What the fuck are they doing? This just makes the rest of us look bad.
|
I feel awesome.

In any case, better an elitist than a racist, you evil person you. *tips his expensive top hat* |

Jezus what's with all the colors...

In my experience; the aesthetic attributes of writing do affect judgements about it, red IS a more confrontational hue than say blue or black as they are more neutral, yet this seems to me like that crappy fad of giving in to the child's every want, like that different kinds of learning 'Are you verbal, audial or kinesthetic?'. School exists for more than a purpose of handing in essays and marking them, it exists to educate children so they are able to survive in the adult world, they have to get used to adaptability and the fact different people use different things.
The longer you treat them like children the longer they will abide your wishes and thus remain. xxx |

I love how we're teaching our kids that it is okay to be molly-coddled through life, and that everyone will bend over backwards to treat every single complaint like a clinical issue. Man, they're gonna be screwed from the moment they graduate.

Damnation! You beat me to it!

BOOBS
If children are that impressionable, why arn't we all nervous recks which explode if even looked at in a strict voice? |
