The Elder Scrolls
Does anyone know any RPGs that can match the brilliance of Bethesda's Elder Scrolls series?

Three words:
World of Warcraft |
:
I'm thinking Fallout. BTW MORROWIND IS BESTEST |
Fuck. Oh fuck. I fucking love the Elder Scrolls.
Let's all revel in fanfagness about Morrowind. |
Well, I love it and hate it.
The scope of it is amazing, and it has some great moments, but everything looks bland, and the limited dilogue and choices is constraining. The game is about being what you want to be, so maybe not being a core RPG fan is the reason why I didn't find it immersive, but realy, a game should create a world for you, not rely on your imagination, which I found this game to do alot, just apeal to it. And there's a hell of alot of depth if you want it, just don't expect it with the majority of the characters. Then there's the game being orientated around the first person perspective and the combat... Morrowind is great, but I came at it at too late, and realy, I'm spoilt on clean menus and voices, the graphics and gameplay I can handle, I've only got to the beginning stages of the game, and everything is all too aparent as repetive and messy, does it get better (after you get to balmora or whatever it's called) soon, or is that pretty much how the game is the whole way through? Now on to the actual topic: It depends what you want, if you want Elderscrolls, I'd say two worlds or something like that because essentially they're mimicking it. In terms of good RPG's, I'll say fable, which alot of people hated, but I loved it, the combat, even though it's a button masher is at least fun, and the world is great, and disntive in it's own. The KOTOR series are great RPG's, sure, they're very different from the elder scrolls series, but if a great enganging story, role playing characters, and altogether a great world is what you want in an RPG (Please don't tell me you actually want the wall of statistics and items that all look the same). Then there's fallout 3, haven't played the previous ones but already it reaks oblivion to me (in terms of general makeup), so if you like oblivion, you'll like it. But yeah, everything I've mentioned has been repeated or you already know about, so my advice is do some surfing, probably youtube RPG's, or buy some old ones, there's tonnes of them out there. |
Fable 2 (when it comes out)
Fallout (1,2 and 3) KOTOR Balder's Gate 2 Planescape: Torment Vampire Bloodlines: The Masquerade Neverwinter nights (1 & 2) /thread |
No, this thread is now for Morrowind discussion.
Ok, well I'm sorry, but you definitely cannot judge Morrowind before going to Balmora. I mean come on! This is a game focused on immersion. if you don't give it a chance, you're going to get nothing. I've had too many hours put into this game. I seriously don't want to know. Been play it since '04 I think? Jeebus. |
I may or may not have enjoyed Morrowind more if I spent as much time playing it as it took to load anything at all.
|
I like Argonians. I mean, they're bloody lizardmen ftw.
It really bugs me that in Oblivion they've become plantigrade. |
Khajiit thief pride!!!
Argonians are sweet as well. Morrowind is most excellent, Oblivion kind of shot the series in the foot in order to make a pretty, "mass-appealing" game, which it did. But it totally destroyed the dark creepy atmosphere and the level of customization that made Morrowind so awesome. Plus, the fact that you could be level 2 and find some ridiculously nice glass weapon was what made sneaking through terrifying dungeons so worth it. I really hate the level-scaling in Oblivion. Not to mention the ugly fucking locals, and they're retarded cheery dialect. For all that talk about "5000 lines of spoken dialogue!" or whatever it was, the voices sure were lame. ENOUGH OF THAT RANT! I thoroughly enjoyed Fable and will be doing the same to Fable 2 come time for its release. |
I've preordered Fable 2 the max.
BEAST RACE PRIDE I may have played nearly every in and out of this game, but it was always as an Argonian or Khajiit. fuck human races. they're boring and their walk/run animation looks silly. |

and several very easily stolen houses.
|
Oh, hell, Morrowind can be defined as a massive brown stain of mud-flats, a ton of ugly rocky peaks, endless miles of ashy depressing crap, the occasional boring town, the House Of Earthly Delights, a Giant crab shell, and Vivec.
|
A giant enemy crab shell?
|
Nope, a giant placid crab shell that people live in.
Ghost, you just described the best game ever. |
I remember doing those alchemy quests in the Blamora Mages Guild, where you had to go to obsure places to find these herbs, i walked through a huge...multi coloured forest I think and i just sat back and went "Woah!"
Awesome game, I also pre-ordered Fable 2 FTW! |
GHOST MISSED THE FUCKING MUSHROOM CITIES
TELVANNI FOR TEH WIN |
Oh, right, the place where I shot a zombie behind a barricade for forty minutes until I ran out of crossbow bolts.
Good times. |
Wow you must've absolutely sucked lol
Now TES love or GTFO |
No, the Xbox controls were just so bad I could hit a fucking rat with an axe half the time.
|
Well, when you hit and it did no damage, that meant that you effectively missed. What did you play as? Race makes a huge difference early on.
|
:
strokes for loli folks etcetc |
I tried them all, still no fucking luck.
My entire experience can be summed up as: "Worst holiday ever." |
I'm going to bump this so I can continue giving Morrowind verbal handjobs.
Who else liked becoming a werewolf in Bloodmoon? Greatest expansion to anything ever. |
I heard that in the Eldar Scrolls universe, although they have not yet been implemented in a game, there are werebears, werelions, werecrocodiles and weresharks. The latter, I imagine, would be a great inconvenience if you happen to be caught in a full more far from your bath.
|
Some of those are present in Daggerfall, though off of the top of my head, I can't remember which ones. Think they were werebear and wereshark.
|
Wereshark?
That sounds liek a cheesey super hero/ villian |
I couldn't get into Daggerfall or Arena. I guess you can only handle a certain amount of oldness if you're me.
|
The oldest game I can truly enjoy is....Planescape: Torment but thats good enough :D
